That is gorgeous!!!!!! Wow such a striking design.
Did you do the panels separately then put them together?

Wonderful job - I just bought the French Braid book and can't wait to try the technique. You are so creative - coming up with this variation.

WOW...WOW...WOW...That is absolutely fantastic. Will you share how you did it? You didn't do the regular triangles. How did you ever think of that? It just blows me away. I think you should send that in to someone and get the design published. I don't think I have ever seen it that way.

Very tasteful and original idea! Think it must be just something like four table runners joined together, grin .... Do you think you could share the instructions?

Re: Something else I did with (mini) French Braids....
Let's see what I can remember, lol...
Yes, it is four panels, with the pointed ends in the center, so all four meet
On the end where it shows a triangle base, do a square instead
I started playing with strips 1 !/4 by 6 1/2 in, & went from there
I filled in with braids on the sides too, after selecting the colors for the triangles. The color layout for the braids my hubby helped with, putting the matching colors along side of each other & making it flow.
This idea came to me when I saw the mini braid posted on the French Braid topic. Saw that point on one end, & it was a lightbulb moment, lol!
DH, the real artist, thought I was a bit crazy at times, & I told him, that's okay, no rules for us quilters! Right, ladies!
Anyway, we both love the end results, & all the little things that pop put on this design once you finish your little quilt, lol.
Just have fun & place with these braids & see what you might come up with! I want to play some more, turn some more directions & see what pops up. I also want to find more blocks to play with this way, as the lightbulb comes on, of course, lol. DH really thought I was crazy when I told him my idea & got started, then, when I started laying out braids, all scrappy, on my design wall, he was right there & really got into helping me with the color layout! Sure glad he did, I know, with his input, it dances even more than if I had just done it. Now, he wants to play with some braid designing too.
Anymore questions, just post here, & thanks for all the compliments!
On the side braids, I just made the strips longer, like 12in, maybe? You can hold them up to the design & see, then adjust.
You can really make the braids any size & width you want. My design is all scrappy, with a few fqs added in, & the borders were from fat halves & the outer edge border was left over from my first French Braid quilt top I posted here too. More scraps the better, then if you run short of one piece, just use a different one.
This was so much fun to make up as I went!

Oh, I did the four panels separate. Then laid out the four side panels & did them. Then, I started assembling it. Did the four in the center first, Y sean technique, then added the four side ones, & it all came together great. The borders I added log cabin style, one strip at a time, around the edges....Hope this helps!

As for the squares, instead of triangles, after placing the four runs, like an "X" on the design wall, we thought, do squares instead, so it squares off the corners for us! Didn't think of it before that, & this is where putting it on your wall, then standing back to look at it, really gives you more ideas that you wouldn't see otherwise!
