Carolej - I have the pattern but haven't made it yet. Thanks for the heads up about the yardages being too snug. I'll buy extra - I even wrote that on the pattern. Thanks.

knitnoid - That is a very cute quilt. What size did you make? and how many fat quarters did you end up using? And I love the cats you put on there!

Thanks Debbie. When I asked my niece what colors she liked I was told Hot Pink, Pink and more Pink. This from a child who's colors previously were blue and gold/yellow -- whatever Univ of Michgan colors are where her grandfather went to school. When i asked about 'things'. It was kitties, then girly things. Thus a Hot Pink Yellow Brick Road with cat silhouettes.

I made the lap size and used 12 FQ, plus I cut some pieces from the border fabric, as I'm a prewasher and the FQ became 'skewed' and after straightening and I didn't have enough fabric. If you make no cutting mistakes, don't prewash the fabric, and the FQ is truley 18 x 21 there is enough fabric. The good news is in the lap size and above, there are extra blocks. I think it's 5, 6, 8, 10 & 16 for the lap, twin, full, queen & king quilts. it's only the baby quilt which is 4 x 5 block where there is absolutely no room for error.

I've made 2 YBR quilts and I took scraps for some of the pieces that went with the other colors. The yellow and blue one has several pieces that has only one square of that print. The pastel prints one has lots of orphan squares and rectangles. Just keep the same color and it works very well I laid the pieces out on the dining room table and let it sit for a couple weeks. People come in and rearrange, and when company is coming, it's time to sew it together.

I loved everyone's ideas and WE offered to send me some of her shell fabric which was very generous of her to do. But I went to the website - quiltshops.com - typed in shell fabric and there it was right on the 1st page. I am going to order some of the fabric to match, and some fabric for the borders and backing that I think will go good with it.

I am terrible at picking out fabric though. I hope it will all turn out okay. I am one of those people that get to the middle of something and then start on something new. This one is for my SIL who is starting chemo treatments next week. It won't be done by then, but I'm hoping to keep working on it so I can give it to her.

Glad to hear you found more of the matching fabric! I once drove to a shop north of here, about an hour away, to get more of what I needed. Thank God I found it, otherwise I would have had to re-think the borders, which I absolutely did NOT want to do!
