We either have Joann's or Hobby Lobby. There is a quilt store with BEAUTIFUL fabric. I tend to go to Joann's because of the hours. I often have to buy fabric on Sunday's due to time restraints and Hobby Lobby is closed on Sunday. WalMart closed their fabric and crafts department last spring. I tried to find what little department they had left. What a JOKE! Joann's isn't bad but again, you need to be careful of what you buy.

Hey all! I usually buy a majority of my fabric from Joann's. I do the feel test, if it doesn't feel good, don't buy it. That's why I have a hard time purchasing online.

the only fabric store near here is Joann's, and they have a pretty good selection of quilting fabric, but what I noticed when I received fabric from QIAD, is that QIAD's quality is extremely much better hahaha, also just discovered a small quilt shop about 20 minutes away and discovered Hancock fabrics 45 minutes away, but now that I discovered El's fabric I'm totally sold on it.

You can't beat QIAD fabric. The sale fabric is cheaper that Walmart and JoAnns. $4,oo yard and sometimes $3.00. You don't haveto feel it cause you know its good quality.

When you buy online do you find that your monitor/screen has given you a true representation of the color of the fabric? I have never bought online because I worry that the colors I match up on my screen will, in reality, be a slightly different shade and not match or "go" together.

For example, in picking a novelty print, it's hard to find matching fabrics to go with it because they are often not part of a collection.

With QIAD fabrics, I think they are great and very close to what you get. Nothing beats seeing in person, but it is sure close.

Lynn, I have purchased fabric from JoAnns for making quilted purses for my nieces and doing wall-hangings and such. I wash the fabrics first and for those smaller projects, the fabric has been fine. I also buy the flannel for quilt backing when it is on sale the day after Thanksgiving for 1.99/yard. You should be ok doing a wall hanging with their fabric.

For wallhanging, especially seasonal or holiday, I don't worry so much about the "quilt shop quality." But, Eleanor has such great fabric, with great prices I look there first. Of course, sometimes you want to feel the fabric, see if it is too stiff, or too thin. I go by the way it feels in my fingers.

I bought (over my budget) a bunch of really colorful Halloween fabric. One was black with images from vintage Halloween postcards on it. I got a bunch of coordinating fabric to go with it. I still think there are one or two extras that I need. The backing is one of them. I got them at a new quilt shop I found that has tons of fabric. It is many times larger than the one near my house.

I'm going to get some fabric at JoAnns too, when the fall/Halloween cottons and flannels go on sale. That is a good idea. Then I can make 2 wallhangings. The fabric with the vintage images on it wasn't what I had in mind for this project but it was so pretty I had to get it.
