Re: Christmas Stockings for Troops
I just received a response to my e-mail from a Sergeant in Iraq. There are 80 soldiers in their company (3 platoons). He is going to get back with me on what the soldiers would like to see in their stockings, and we will be discussing the arrangements for shipping, etc... There are no females in this company. He said they appreciate all of the support that is given during these long deployments away from home and that it means a lot to them.
I thought it'd be nice to let the soldiers have a say in what they'd like their stockings filled with. SHARONMAMAW's son is in this Sergeant's platoon. When he gets back with me with more info I will pass it along to you. I've received 20 gorgeous stockings, so far. Tomorrow I'll bring my camera to work and take the first pics of these on my design wall and post for ya'll to see. This is really getting exciting now!!!

GeorgiaPeach,
My group met tonight and we finished 7 stockings. We are making more
next week. Everyone enjoyed making them and turned out beautiful.

Hi GP....Well Helen and I sewed all day. Completed 16 stockings and have 26 more all cut out and ready to sew together.
Have the e-mail address for my friend's son in Afghanistan. There are 40 people in his platoon, including 3 females. I will PM you with all the info.
We had so much fun today. Some of them are pretty wild, and some are very female, so may have to do a little trading with you. But we intend to make lots of extras besides the 40. I wish we could make enough for the whole Battalion which is around 130 I believe. But if you think you might have enough, that would be great. We don't intend to stop at 40. It's so much more fun sewing with someone in a deal like this. We are getting together again next Wednesday.
I have been thinking, and I think it must be a company, not a battalion. Will have to find out the details.

Ok......I'm going to give this a try. The local Ben Franklin's is closing
so I went there and got quite a few Christmas f/q's that were on sale. They're kind of a retro theme, but think they'll be fun. Thanks to Oasis who sent me the full size pattern. That will make it much easier for me to use.
Keep your fingers crossed that they resemble "stockings" when I'm done.

Ladies, this is fantastic!! Oh yes, grammy, we can definitely supply that company of 130 with Christmas stockings!!! Bring 'em on girls, you sew 'em and we'll fill 'em and get 'em sent! Today I put all the stockings I've received on my design wall at work and took pics of them. DH is going to post the pics so all of ya'll can see your gorgeous stockings! I can't wait to share the pics because those stockings are so incredibly cute you can't imagine! Anyone else know any soldier whose platoon we can contact...let me know.

GP, you've gotten me wanting to hop on the bandwagon and help. When are the stockings to be at your place at the latest?

Re: Christmas Stockings for Troops
Had my first weekend off in a month last weekend - got caught up on a lot of different things, but not the stockings
I did buy more Christmas fabric on Monday - and I may end up using some of that for the Fall Block Swap, I like it so well!
