Re: Christmas Stockings for Troops
CindyG. . . .I cut all, linings, backing, and leave 2 inches more than the pattern on the strips when I cut them. I cut the batting the same size as the pattern. Once you stack them, bottom = batting, with stocking fabric (right side up) then the backing (right side down) then the linings. Then turn it all over with the batting on the top and sew at just the edge of the batting. Usually gets all of the other layers without having to watch too close.
Possibly more info than anyone needed or wants but that is how I do them.

Re: Christmas Stockings for Troops
Cindy, I used my walking foot to sew on the strips. Mostly that worked, but sometines the shape changed a little, so I began using the stripped stocking as a pattern for the lining and back. That way everything went together easily.
Hope this helps. Good luck, have fun.

Yesterday I got a shoebox in the mail with 6 of the most gorgeous Christmas stockings, from Sandra in Tennessee. For the life of me I cannot place her username, and I wanted her to know the pkg. arrived safe and sound.

I'm going to try cutting the batting out about 2" bigger, sewing on the strips, then cutting the front, backing, and the lining all at the same time using my template. That should work.

That should work well, Cindy, and would be easier than trying to match it all up separately. Also, did you see the tips on stocking construction that IowaGal posted? CindyB said she would post pics of doing hers this way. Sounds like an easier and quicker way to put the cuffs on. Check it out if you haven't already.

GP - I read how to put the cuffs on but I'm too stupid to understand. So I'll put a couple on like the instructions say and then maybe I'll be able to understand the easier instructions. DUH!!!

cindyg, you aren't alone, if I don't have a picture to look at I'm lost in space! It's not hard to do it the way the instructions say, but IowaGal and CindyB's method sounds even easier. Maybe CindyB can get pics posted for us lame ones! LOL! In the meantime, I'm just cruising along sewing strips onto batting, assembly line style!
I received a pkg. from Oasis today with 10 gorgeous stockings! She used this great fabric for the cuffs that looks fabulous! What is it, Oasis? Anyway, those stockings are gorgeous! Thanks so much, Oasis, you are going to make some soldier's Christmas brighter, no doubt!

GP. . .
Glad you got the pkg OK. I have 5 more started and will get them off to you soon. The cuffs are some kind of long, loopy chenille. Joann's had a huge bolt of it on sale and unfortunately I didn't buy enough. I'll use it till it's gone then probably use some fleece. Joann's is trying to get me some more from a different store, so maybe I can still get some, but if not, I'll look and find something else.

Oasis, the fabric you used is gorgeous and those stockings are the cutest things I've ever seen. That loopy chenille for the cuffs just set it off great, too! I'm going to see if I can find some of it.
