The butterflies are really beautiful. I like your idea of the different greens, after all in nature plants are not all one shade of green.

Love them all! These butterflies look very exotic! Can't wait to see your finished quilt. Great color selection. Thanks for the puzzle game!

I love the different green for your background. Here is a suggestion use a floral pattern solid square. That way the butterflies looks like they are landing on flowers. Try to find a floral with different greens in it or a fern looking material.

Yeah....I would never have guessed if I hadn't printed up your pictures and put them together. That was fun. We shuld do this again.

Can I ask a favor? Is there some way you can give directions for the pattern as far as cutting, etc. I have a friend who is crazy for butterflies and would love these. I love the fact that they are pieced instead of appliqued. How is the block with the little square in one corner made. Is that appliqued on or set in?

What a great block to use up stash.

Thanks again for the fun game. Is my prize a trip to Sweden???? OK, OK....a girl can hope can't she.

Grammy65, yeah, I too loved the fact that they were pieced rather than appliqued, mainly because I'm still just learning to piece and think applique looks soooo complicated and time-consuming.

The butterflies are from a pattern in a magazine called "Quiltmaker's. All Time-Favourites", the spring 2006 issue. In it, it says that the pattern was also published in the 2001 May/June issue (No 79). I could give you all the measurements etc here, but don't know if that's allowed. Is it?

The finished blocks are 6x6 inches, so a word of warning (which I wish I'd thought of when I started) is that many of the pieces are really really seriously small. The pattern also did not have any pressing instructions, so I had to find out the hard way which way the seams should go... That's why the butterfly in the lower right corner looks extra bulky, that was my first attempt.

The little head piece is actually neither pieced nor set in, but rather "put on" to make sort of a dimensional head. It is originally a 1.5 x 1.5 inch square, folded twice to make a smaller square, and then just basted onto the background square before adding the other parts of the block (sorry if this isn't making sense but I fear my English vocabulary may not be sufficient for such detailed sewing descriptions). What you end up with is a 1/2 inch square head. In the pattern, the body was also "dimensional", but I decided I didn't want that so I made it flat.

They are in any case very fun to do! They will all get antennas (spelling?) coming out from the heads, I just haven't decided whether I'll do it by hand or machine...

As for the prize - yeah, if I had been rich it would certainly have been a trip to Sweden, but since I'm not, you'll have to settle with just the honor and fame that comes with winning!

bland50 - thank you so much for the suggestion! That's a very good idea! I'll certainly look for any such fabric next time I do make it to a quilt store.
