Happymrs.
I love this pattern and have always wanted to try it but the "Y" seams scare me off. I love your quilt, the colors are perfect!

Linda, there is a method available to do it without the Y seam. My camera needs new batteries, but when I get them, I will post a pic of a tumbling blocks I did without one Y seam! Let me know if you are interested, and I will give you the name of the book where I found the no-Y method.

It seems to me I have seen them done using the quarter square triangles, & it looked nice also. But believe me ladies, if you just cut a bunch of these diamonds, out of your scrap pile & do a few, you will have these Y seams aced in no time! That was the drawback that kept me from trying these before now, but see, a little practice, & I did it! I am willing to bet that most all of you can too, you just have to try it & have a little patience & determination, & it will happen! Main thing is, leaving the 1/4 in unsewn at the edge where the pointed piece will go, for the Y, the rest is easy, trust me!...

I have made two Tumbling Block quilts. The first one, green, yellow and purple, I did the "old fashioned way". It was lots of work. Some of the blocks went together easily, but then there were times ... arrggghhh.
Anyway here are pictures of them both. The pink one is done the "new fangled" way. No Y seams.
This is the original Y seam version:

You can certainly tell when you look closely, but I like them both.
