Re: Best quilting notion/gadget you can't live without
my favorite "tool" is my huge industrial tool box.
I purchased one at a garage sale many years ago, and it is the best sewing/quilting organzier in the world. It's bright red, and I've added onto it at my sears store. The muscle men, look at me like i'm crazy, but w/ the wheels and the heavy drawers, they are perfect for all the little items, rulers, thread, fabric, feet etc..
Happy quilting.
I enjoyed a workship w/ Ms. Burns over 20 years ago, in Northern NJ, sponsered by the golden ladder, craft store. I shared the day with my mother and the quilt has been a family favorite for years.
I'm off to make a baby blanket, for a 'late" starter friend of my husband.. Woosh, 51 and having a new baby, prayers for them please

I put some industrial Velcro, the hook side, on the bottom of my foot petal and put the loop side on a an old mouse pad. My foot petal does not move and it's great to take to quilt class and workshops.

Love my brass stiletto. And I'm real attached to the O'lipfa ruler shields for my 6x12 and 6x24 rulers, makes it real easy to pick them up and is a saftey feature, too. Oh, and my QIAD Flying Geese rulers...love them! Oh stop me....I love my toys and it's hard to stop once I get going! LOL!

I was watching the show on KVCR and Elinor used a 'mitre-corner ruler'. Does anyone know where I can get one?

I have the Rule Steady and the Block Marker. I wish I had had these two tools when I started quilting. I think the Rule Steady is available now at many online quilt shops then it use to be.

Re: Best quilting notion/gadget you can't live without
At one time there was a posting on here about the rotary blade sharpener. one person said she junked it and others said they don't work... Well, my niece bought one at a yard sale and didn't use it so she brought it over thinking my son would like to play withit and see if he could get it to work... So one day I picked it up and tried to sharpen a blade.. It made it worse it was awful... then I sat and thought about it and figured when you sharpen a knife you sharpen both sides not just one.. so turned the blade around and sharpened the other side and it worked like a charm.. blade is nice an sharp and have cut 2 quilts with it so far and ready to do another.. They do work...just be sure to do both sides. M. A.

I have the blade sharpener ( the blue one, no brand name on it) and the instructions say to grind both sides of the blades. One side of the sharpener grinds and one side smooths the grounded blade to a fine edge. It works great and I can get many extra cuttings from old blades. DH has replaced the grit in it for me several times.
