Hi Lodad! Welcome! How long have you been quilting, and how did you get started...? I always enjoy hearing how others get from point A to point B, so I'll be nosy!
Quilting is a tremendous stress reliever for me. If I am feeling antsy and cranky, the best way to settle myself down is to do some quilting.
I think more men would really enjoy handcrafts if they would only try them---power tools are not the only path to creativity!

Welcome Lodad! I am trying to get my son interested in sewing, and/or quilting. I thought my embroidery machine would do it, since it is somewhat a technology challenge for me! Let us know what you are working on these days.

Re: Please make Lodad welcome!
Hello everyone. This is Lodad. Thank you all for making me feel so welcome to this Community Posting. It is great to get so many responses. -- One of you asked how I got started sewing. That goes back to when I was very young. My mother use to sew and I always would try my hand at it (when she wasn't looking). I have a sister who sews quite a bit. I have done many crafts through the years. Knitting, Chrocheting, counted cross stitch, punch needle and several other crafts. It wasn't until about the middle of 2004 I wanted to try my hand at sewing on a level to actually accomplish something. So I got some publications on quilting and a few hints and all the necessary materials and started. My only problem is not having enough room to quilt in one area of the house. I start out on my desk with the individual blocks and work my way up to moving to the dining table when what I am sewing gets bigger than 2ft. And I use the top of my bed for laying out the pieces and batting. My house is only 725 sq. ft. So I really need a place almost as big at my house. I will be starting my next quilt which will be in asian prints. I am getting excited on that one. But first My TV/Computer/Sewing/collection room needs to be painted. I will take about 2-3 days just to get everything out to paint. So as soon as I can I will be back at the sewing machine. I will talk to you all soon. B-bye for now Lodad

Welcome Lodad. I am new also. Three of my sons learned to sew when they were in middle school. They took home economics because it was required. One of them sewed before that age because he used to take his Dad's handkerchiefs and sew the edges together, tie strings on them, climb to a height outside on an outside porch and drop his "parachutes" over to the ground below. Then he got creative and started to sew kites and try to fly them. I think boys are naturals at sewing because they enjoy anything that has a motor. One of them is an avid biker now, and has sewn his own bike bags and sleeping bags because they wear better than the boughten ones....hopefully he will teach his daughters to sew...his wife doesn't.

Lodad - my husband sews beautifully although he hasn't done it in years. He made a quilt for me about 20 yrs. ago. He also surprised me by crocheting me a huge tablecloth out of the little bitty crochet thread. He was a pilot and would fly overseas and be stuck in a hotel room for days. That's how he did it without my knowledge. Men do have a different take on things so please jump in and add your two cents.

Welcome Lodad! It will be so fun to have you on the forum. This is a great site for people fairly new to quilting (like me). We can glean all this great information from the pro's! Great to have you here!
