Post by aliciaQ60 » Sat May 05, 2007 3:56 am

To all you Quilters make sure you take breaks.Keep your self hydrated
and your muscles stretched throughout your quiting marathons.I know how we are.We forget about everything. So lets try to remember to take care of ourselves.Lotion our hands, hydrate our bodies. We want to keep our selves in good shape for our sport.Take care of ourselves. We have many quilts to go!

Yes, and take time to go out for a walk! Quilting can get in the way of our physical health because we become so obsessed with it, but we have to think about our bodies, too.

I guess I am on the right track then. I forced myself to get up this morning and exercise. I felt good afterwards. I am just starting going through the big Menopause and the hot flashes get real bad so this website I looked up said exercise would really help to control the hot flashes so I thought Great another reason I need to find time to exercise. Actually I do enjoy it but it takes a while to get up the motivation.

And don't forget to have *healthy choices* for snacks on hand! I know, I know, sometimes you are wrapped up in a project and don't want to stop to prepare a meal...or it's late at night and you feel like you need an energy boost...so you wind up eating junk...YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE...LOL! I can picture thousands of guilty, sheepish faces reading this!

An occasional indulgence is not going to hurt anyone...I had a brownie sundae last night for dessert (ooohhhhhh, so good!)...but we need to honor our bodies' needs for high-quality fuel, just like we take care of our sewing machines and our cars.

I have my ironing area across the room from my machine and my machine across the room from my cutting area. I have to get up and walk a lot from task to task. It's the little steps that will add up.

If I have a day I can actually set aside for sewing, I plan ahead for food. I prepare the supper of the day the day before so that I can just pop it into the oven to warm it up. I prepare good snacks for me - cut up fruit, sliced cheese and sausange with crackers, yogurt in my favorite flavors and plenty of ice for iced tea and water. If I am really ambitious and will be sewing with someone else, I will make some veggie pizza. I have no problem with eating junk food if I have good stuff ready and waiting for me.

Thanks for the heads up aleciaQ60. We do need to be reminded. Or I do. By the sounds of it, I think I want to go to qltsbme's house & sew with her. LOL That lady gets prepared! And nicely too. lol I am going to remember your tips Nancy. I forget about supper until it is time to fix it, then I wonder "What can I fix quickly?"

I don't know if any of you are QNN addicts, but Nancy Z. had a show re: this topic and showed some really good stretches and emphasized hydration also. I take a break outside when the weather is nice and walk around my yard, picking up debris or around the house when the weather is bad doing the same thing. That's what I call house cleaning!
