Death of ST. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher
I know this has nothing to do with quilting, but sadness overwhelms me, as I heard about the death of Josh Handcock,29, a relief pitcher who was intsrumental in helping the Cardinals win the World Series last year. My daughter was born in St. Louis, I am a die hard fan and also of the Rockies. AND I STILL THINK THE BASEBALL HALL OF FAME BETTER CONSIDER MARK MCGWRIE FOR THE HALL OF FAME.
In case they are too dumb to realize it, Mark was one of the gentlemen who brought people back to baseball, Sammy Sousa and Ken Griffi, Jr. also. The money moguls of baseball lined their pockets with the money they made from these players. Sorry, didn't mean to get on a rampage, but, it all boils down to money
This accident brought back surpressed memories of what would have been a near fatal auto acciddent, for me in 1988. I was driving on a country road in the middle of SD, it was almost dark, and a hugh hay truck, pulls right out in front of me...NO HEADLIGHTS, TAIL LIGHTS..NOTHING. Thank the Lord I spotted him in what I hoped would be enough time to save my life. My heart was beating so fast I thought it would explode. To add insult to injury, he stops, still no lights and turns left. Just as if he owned the road. Unfortunately we have accidents that kill people in SD, just because of these idiorts!!!!
Josh Hancock #32, may you rest in peace.

Re: Death of ST. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher
thanks, Pilot. I'm more of a Bosox fan, but DH and I were invited to attend a game over Labor Day weekend last year - Cards. didn't win, and for someone who can't take crowds (PTSD) DH did fine in the party box, and we actually tuned the tv into the last inning of the World Series!!!
Josh's death has also been in my thoughts and prayers. There is a memorial service/funeral tomorrow - pray for his family and friends, please.

Re: Death of ST. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher
I have been a Cardinals baseball fan since I was a very young girl, as my Dad listened to the games on the radio all summer. I tolerate football, hate basketball, but am a baseball girl through and through. Our biggest vacation as a kid was going to St Louis! I love that town, It is so friendly and lots of fun. I even have thier logo painted on my LP tank! This saddened me to no end, but those guys are class acts, and they will fight their way back. No one, including me, thought they had a snowballs chance to go all the way last year and they won, so they are made of pretty tough stuff.

PIlot2B - I heard about Josh Hancock. It is so sad. At the Astros games they have had 'moments of silence' (why can't they just say everyone prayed????) for him. The baseball world is in mourning as well as fans of every team.

Pilot2b I heard about it the day it happened. I came home from work ready to watch the game and found out. That's the second time the Cards have had to cancel a game due to a death in the last couple years. It's really a shame. He was so young.

zfatcat and all: The other Cardnial player who died was Darryl Kile, June 2002, of a coronary artery blockage. Kile was only 33. He was
found dead in his Chicago hotel room.
All the Cardinal players will wear patches with Josh Hancock's number on it, all season..#32
So sad.
I did read some good news about baseball. Rockie turns rare unassisted triple play in Atlanta on Sunday. In the history of baseball, this was the the 13th unassisted triple play. It was the second triple unassisted for the Rockies, in Atlanta Sunday night, and of course beating the Braves, but it took 11 innings. In April 2003 the Rockies were playing St. Louis. and garnered their first unassisted triple play.
Am a Rockies fan also.
My father took me to me first baseball game when I was just a tot. We were in Sioux City, Iowa visiting my grandmother and aunt. It would be the first of many.
