Working from Home

Post by quiltingmoore » Mon Apr 30, 2007 1:30 pm

Hi Ladies,

I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas for an at home job with good income that allows more time with family (and quilting, of course). I currently work full time as a medical coder/biller. I'm considering a change, but I am the primary source of income for my family of four and change will be difficult. I hoped someone might have an idea or some experience they would be willing to share with me.

I am with you Quiltingmoore. I am the only source of income in my home and would love to find something to do out of my house. I just would not know where to begin.

Some people I know do medical transcription from home thru the internet. With your background, that seems like it might work. Would you like me to see if I can get you some contacts? They say is is really good money.

My DH and I operate our business from home. We do internet marketing...i.e. website design, marketing consulting, search engine optimization, etc. Probably not an option for those without a technical background.

However, some of our clients run successful home businesses such as interior design (one woman does very well using what you already own), travel agency, graphic design, secretarial services, pool cleaning, tutoring, etc. There are some books at Barnes & Noble that give ideas for home businesses. Also, I am a huge fan of Entrepreneur magazine and their website.

In my community, a lot of non-profits have auctions and silent auctions. One group I belong to uses a really neat software package to setup and manage the auction...making checkout a breeze. I've often thought that would be a neat home business...learn the software and hire yourself out for special events.

I'm sure there are a lot of things I'm not thinking of!

quiltingmoore have you checked with your employer to see if they will let you work from home on their projects???

Set up your own billing company at home if they don't. Your experience is really a value thing.

Good luck with your decisions.

Thank you all for the great idea's. Keep them comming. My current job has the ability to work from home, they just don't want us to. It's easier to ahve us all there and available to them. I wish I could so something related to quilting, but I wouldn't know where to begin. In Idaho we have a few quilt stores in the area, but I'd love to do something the Keepsake Quilting store, but of course that takes a lot of money.
