SUPPER CLUB - Sunday, Aug 30th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sun Aug 30, 2020 6:29 am

Good morning,

Cooler this morning - 51* - but the day is supposed to be 75* with 80* looming later in the week, so no complaints here. Yesterday was productive. I got one quilt quilted, 2 bindings made, and one quilt bound. Then Bill put one of my plaid/animal swap tops on the frame and made one pass with his pine cone pattern. Each pass takes 45 minutes, and this quilt will take a total of 8 passes. He hadn't updated his Q-bot for a long time so that took another 2 hours before he could even start sewing. So this will take a while. But the 'Queue' is down to 3 after this one that's on the frame now. Other than sewing, I mopped all the floors, cleaned the fridge, and packed all my clothes for our trip, plus all our drinks - waters, pop, beer, coffee, tea, mocha mix, etc. And organized the under-bed storage.

Today - I have another quilt to bind and a short trip to grocery store. We have been invited to a new friend's place at 5pm for campfire and sandwiches and I'm to take a veggie platter. So I need veggies and ingredients for my horseradish veggie dip. Then I'll need to clean and cut veggies and make the dip. That will be my day, for the most part.

If I have any extra time, I will make another block or two on my baking quilt. Turns out that will be a great gift for Alec - he called us the other day to say he got his own place and he also got a promotion at work. He's a baker and now he's not just the Muffin Man (as he called himself) but he's doing everything - croissants, pies, cakes, wedding cakes, and more. He gets to help plan the menu list and experiment with his own recipes. He's excited because baking is his passion. So I think he will really love my Kimberbell "We Whisk You a Merry Christmas" quilt which has cookies, aprons, Kitchenaids, rolling pins, cannisters, etc appliqued all over it! I have one 6'x8" block done. lol!

TINA - I imagine the vet wanted to try everything else first for your poochies before introducing a med with possible side effects. Also, it may be expensive. Are the dogs more itchy in hot weather? I know heat can do it to humans . . . .

JANA - I hope all goes purrfectly for Sarah in her new trailer! Mystery freezer meals. We've had plenty of those! lol! I try to remember to label everything, too, but don't always. I had to laugh when you said 'leftover catfood'. haha! There is no such thing here. Foxy gets 1 small spoon for his breakfast and 1 small spoon for his supper. And Scottie gets to lick the spoon. The rest of the time Fox eats dry. I grew up with chickens, but don't really remember feeding them much. But chicken people tell me they eat practically everything - but shouldn't have onions. It's fun feeding them all our veggie trimmings.

LORI - Are your quilts going with you to Utah? I'm slowed down now that Bill has one on the frame and is using Q-bot. Not only is the machine slower with a pattern, but so is Bill. But this quilt and the next one are to be gifts so I wanted them to have prettier quilting than I do freehand.

Our dinner is going to be Subway sandwiches, veggies, and brownies. The place we are going is new to us. A single guy (widowed about 5 yrs ago but now has a girlfriend, though she lives in Chicago). He is a friend of our friends so we've met him a few times before and he's been to our house a couple of times. He's invited us and our mutual friends over for campfire, sandwiches, and maybe shooting. He's a gun instructor and Bill and our other friend are gun enthusiasts. Should be an interesting evening.

What's your plan for tonite?

Mary, you are getting through those tops really fast. I quilt mine on my domestic machine, so it takes a bit longer. I just finished a quilt with a white background, and marking in white was quite the challenge, but it's done now. I just need to make the label. I washed up the fabric for my next backing and will sew it today. Then start quilting it. After I read you were piecing backings, I went to my stash and pulled out 4 panels and decided I will use them for the back of my fall braid quilt. They are all fall theme panels, so I think it will work.

Waiting for DH to get back from breakfast, then we will take the boys to the park for our Sunday walk.
Then I'll be sewing.

We ordered in pizza last night, so leftovers today.

Have a lovely day.

Good morning!

Mary - you do make fast work on a UFO stash! I looked into adding a QBOT to my LA. No luck, it doesn't play nice with mymodel from Handi Quilter.

Lori - yes, I think you will have good weather for the quilt show. So happy to see it is happening again.

Put a good Gracie story over in the sew ins. She is such a tender hearted little girl.

Well, it is Sunday - church here at home. We are thinking we will attend in person next week. It would be our letter of the alphabet turn. The Bishop divided the Ward in half, to keep the distancing and size correct. With it being Sunday as well, dinner is our usual brunch menu, nothing fancy, hashbrowns and eggs. I may make a small serving of sausage gravy for me. Michael doesn't like it, so it is just me. Later tonight will be the afters, brownie bites with pecans. And a tall glass of cold milk!

Cut the background for Minnie - didn't have quite enough for 20 blocks, so punted and will do 15 blocks, set at 3x5, and bigger borders and sashings. It will be fine. Just won't tell Sarah until it is all together. If I want, I could piece some of the leftover pieces and make another block, maybe.....

Sarah's kitties share a can of food, but they are nibblers and like the dry cookies - cat food- better. Ever since I was little, my Grandmother called the dry cat food, cookies, so that is what it is called in this family. Cat cookies.

Stay safe!
Hugs,
Jana

There are days that Pinterest is good - I have enough to make the 5 blocks needed, by making them a alternate block! Duh, sometimes I am not very smart! This will work great!
