SUPPER CLUB - Wed, Feb 22nd

Post by purrfect-lady » Wed Feb 22, 2017 3:37 am

Good Morning!

We have dryness this morning! And it's supposed to last all morning long! But temps only 35'-43' for the day. Brrr... and the air is still damp. I guess it's still winter, after all.

Yesterday I just fiddle-farted the day away in my sewing room, piecing backs for some of the quilt tops I put together while in Texas. More of that today. Bill and I also went out on a short run of errands - grocery, Home Depot, Auto Parts, and Farm & Feed. Scottie got to go because he gets to go into some of those places and they give him cookies. He knows that those orange aprons at H.D. hold cookies just for him! Every employee he sees he parks his hiney on the floor and paws the air, waiting . . . (that's "Sit" and "High Five")

Today, more of the same in the sewing room, but I'll be adding laundry to the mix, I think. Also, my brother, Albert, is coming to visit. He lives about 70 miles away in the foothills of Mt. Rainier. I haven't seen him since last November, but we talk several times a week, via e-mail. So there will be a nice lunch to fix, too.

IRISH - you in your reindeer jammies and Jim in his beard. I think that's a shot for Facebook, don't you? lol! I'm glad to hear Jake has returned from his 'adventures' whatever they were! We worry, you know. Funny that he won't come into the house. I assume he has received numerous invitations . . . Our financial guy is also a good friend - Warren & Lois's son-in-law. Really a nice, nice guy. He's also a gr gr gr nephew of Billy The Kid. Even has the same last name.

CAROL - love your quilts! And so nice to see a picture of pretty you! I remember when Chriss was fostering their DGD (who is now officially adopted) CASA was involved.

BECCA - so sorry you didn't get any answers to your dental problem. Have you considered a different dentist? I had a problem back in the 90's. The tip of my tongue was burning. I mentioned it to my gyn when she asked me if I had any new things going on. She waved it off, said go to the dentist. This I did, plus two oral surgeons, my GP, and finally gave up. A year later I had a hystie for another problem, and my Burning Tongue Syndrome (turns out it's a real thing!) went away! It was hormonal all along. Not saying you should run out and get a hysterctomy - but simply saying not every doctor knows every thing. Maybe it's time for a second opinion. (plus, I got to tell my burning tongue story! ;o)

JANA - appliances will make an awesome house-warming gift for the kids! The thing about appliances - they all get purchased at one time when a house is new. And they are all designed to last about 8 yrs. so they all go out about the same time. Argghhh! Expensive to replace all at the same time. We should be facing that again in the next year or two ourselves. So tell me, what kind of discount do you get at Lowe's?

CHICKIE - love your cow treating scenario. And since I've gotten to actually be there and take part in all the pushing and shoving and munching and slobbering, I can well picture it! I do love cows! And I bet your baby cow is a darling! and my jammies are Minnie Mouse, too!

Tonight's supper is a good one. We have a friend who is almost completely confined to her recliner waiting for a hip replacement surgery which isn't until June 4th because she only wants a specific doc who had done two other replacement surgeries for her in the past. So I thought we'd take a nice meal over with enough for a second time around later in the week. They insist we stay and eat, too, which hadn't been my plan, but maybe she needs the company more than the food. Anyway, I'm putting swiss steak into the crockpot and making twice baked potatoes, green beans, salad, and garlic bread. They said they are providing wine and dessert. AGain, wasn't part of my original plan that they do anything, but who are we to refuse?? It would be rude, right?

So, tonite - not only new food, but GOOD food! And I KNOW there will be good wine to go with. :o]

I hope your supper makes you happy tonite!

Good morning :)
I started to post several times yesterday but kept getting interrupted.
Mary, Dad's response was "well if you two can't get along maybe we just shouldn't move there" I told him I don't figure their moving anyway and I don't care one way or the other if they do move. .... he kinda changed his tone when I said that but I really mean it. .. it's ridiculous trying to force someone to let a person help them! They can just stay where they are and have their friends that they consider family more than their own kids, grands and great grands. ... their loss.
I made burritos last night and think chicken should be supper tonight. .. our maybe pork chops. ...hmmmm

Good morning!

Mary - Lowes offers everyone with their credit card a 5 percent discount, but if you are a veteran, they give you 10 percent, whether you use their card or not. We thought this was just a one time thing near Veteran's Day, but it's not. We get it all the time.

Tina - us parents can be a pain in the tush! I learned when dealing with my mom and her illness, that the woman i knew growing up was not who i was dealing with. I still loved her and was glad to help in ways i could. Knowing that what i did would never be right in her eyes, but i did my best. No matter what happens, you are loved!

Dinner - it's pizza or the car will find something. I am cooking today with my activity day girls. We are making a scrambled egg, hash brown, cheesy, bacon muffin thingy. I am starting them yo collect and make a recipe book.

Enjoy!

Hello everyone, cloudy & showers .

Maryz I had my hystie in 1978 so nothing there.I think it's the nerve endings ,neuralgia. Will find out when he does the block.Whats funny is it hasn't hurt as bad since he examined it & rubbed the jaw & gum areas.Went over it all trying to pinpoint the problem. This is a second opinion. If this doesn't work I've made up my mind I will live with it unless it gets out of hand.
There's enough on the plate With DHs needs.

Tina Makes me want to give you a hug reading your post.Do pray Mom sees things differently. And you can let it go & have peace. You can't help someone if they won't let you.

Irish Hope you have a peaceful day & Jim is content.

Jana Nice to be able to help the kids.

Carol Guess you're quilting or sewing.

Chickie Those animals all have you trained.Sure you enjoy them.

It's sweet n sour chicken here over bed of rice & salad, Becca

Good afternoon from another gorgeous sunny, warm day in Sw. Pa...But, there is a hint of falling temps for this weekend...I kind of knew, winter is not really over but I just thought, maybe......

Mary, Today, I'm kind of having your yesterday kind of day...So far, nothing of importance, except making lunch...And for sure, there would be a lot less FB watchers if I posted our pictures...I shudder to think! And Jake is off on another adventure, wasn't here for bed time snack or breakfast..Don't know what I'm going to do with that guy but if I could catch him, we would be making a quick trip for a snipping...Wow, what an interesting story about your tongue burning...Who would have thought but I guess if we all listened to what our body is saying, we really would learn something...About the only thing my body says is, "feed me" and that voice is much louder than the aches and pains....
What a nice neighbor you are...That's wonderful to take a meal and of course they'd want you to stay...Darn, I wish I lived close by! And our money friend did come, stayed all afternoon and it was so nice..AND he's found a higher rate and doing great things with our $1.98....This fellow is such a nice all round guy, married has 3 children and they just found out his wife has lupus and also is autistic...She had been a teacher for 17 years and had to give it up..There again, just makes you wonder....

Becca, so sorry about that darn tooth...Do you notice, when you have something, such as your tooth, but trying to take care of DH and all the other problems, you do sometimes forget your pain? Well, let's hope and pray, that pain will go away, SOON! So far, we're having a semi quiet day, hope your's is good....

Jana, I think I want to be one of your girls...What you are instilling in these young ones is fantastic..They will surely be thanking you for years to come (as well as their future husbands).. Also, great that you're helping the kids with their appliances and I agree, you're doing it the right way...I'm thinking, Home Depot also gives that discount but will be sure to check the next time...Always good to have a perk....Oh, and I'm going to check out the pockets on the orange aprons at HD.......

Tina, you have way too much on your plate to have to worry about your parents, although, that is something that really won't go away, completely...But, you are absolutely right in how you feel and maybe if you stick to your guns, your Mom and Dad might do some thinking...But, you know, sometimes, it's hard dealing with us old people, lol.....Include me in that hug department.....

Chickie, Well, now we have this vision of you in your fancies, being mobbed by slobbering cows...Either that or being chased by an angry momma cow..Love to hear all the fun things going on in your neighborhood....

Well, it's pretty quiet in this neighborhood although the people next door are having some remodeling done and they have an electric saw AND a loud radio outside..As I said, I sure haven't done too much but will get the house in order...Tomorrow, I'm going OUT! Going to lunch with a couple of old Meals on Wheels volunteers...I'll have a gal from "Comfort Keepers" come and sit with Jim....Really am looking forward to just being able to sit and talk...
BUT, the big news! The UPS man was in shorts.....And the delivery was my birth certificate so now I can apply for my passport..Might try to do that tomorrow after lunch, but we'll see....
Last night, Nick took Terry to the Penguin game down in N. Carolina and kept texting me, through out the game...I told him to do something so they'd put him on camera....But, the Penguins won and they were happy.....

Think I'm going to try to get upstairs and sew, other than that, nothing else....
For dinner, hot meat loaf sandwiches and maybe home made French fries or a salad....Enough pie left over for afters..........

Happy eating...............

Thank you all, I really do need those hugs and really appreciate them all.

We just got news that a friend of ours passed away last night. He had a arcade/pool hall in town 33 years ago and that's how I met Frankie, he went to work for the City after and retired a couple years ago. ... so sad.

Good afternoon! Flip-flops in February… and this is NOT Florida!!! This is crazy Kansas weather… 78 degrees and could be 80 before long. We’ll be back down Friday and the weekend. Sunday will be 40 degrees cooler than today… we pay for these nice days… freezing at night again.

The Hooligans and I walked down to see Ava and took her with us again to see Choc and Maggie. She has such fun on those outings! Now that the days are longer, Mommy and Daddy will be able to resume walking after work with her.

Oh, I did not know Home Depot provided dog treats! All of them??? Can you imagine the Hooligans… Boomer would perform for his treats. The others just demand with abandon.

Mary—enjoy your evening out! What a treat for you to provide a meal and have wine and dessert furnished! Your poor friend! I don’t blame her for wanting the doctor she has confidence in his abilities. I’m sure the company and friendship is the bulk of the dinner--Not what you made. The term for all appliances failing is “Planned Obsolescence.” The manufacturers want you to replace in a few years—much fewer than they used to be. Mom’s first Frigidaire lasted almost 50 years… maybe longer. Everything lasted longer especially before electronics were added. The more we progress, the more we regress or so it seems.

Tina—I admire you for backing off and washing your hands of your parents for awhile. I hope those “friends” are there for them. If not, you can bet they will come back to you… no doubt demanding rather than contrite. I agree that you can’t help them if they won’t let you. My heart is with you! It’s not easy to walk in your shoes. I remember a poster: “Let go and let God.” Your burritos sound delicious!

Jana—snow, really?!!! I guess your cool weather will blow east toward me for our weekend. Dementia is a sad thing with parents… MIL was not who everyone said she used to be, but she was who I knew after DH and I got together. We could have some fun times going out to eat at the Mexican restaurant while DH was at work! I’d go clean house for her and take her shopping before she moved in with us. I love your plan for your girls. In 8th grade home ec, we started with breakfast. Our white sauce became gravy, cheese fondue, and all manner of things from just learning how to do the basic sauce. We spent time learning eggs in all different ways, too. At the end of the semester, we had a sit-down, formal breakfast with all the silver, china, and glassware… learned how to eat in polite society—a nice skill for later in life and dinner meetings. We had no idea how much we were learning at the time. Enjoy! We had recipe boxes, too. I lost mine in the fire and miss it every day.

Becca—I’m thinking the rice tomorrow night… probably with chicken. I had my surgery in ’88. It was 21 years after I birthed my daughter. Do you rub your gums with that stuff we used to use for teething babies? I wonder if that might help? I used to use it when my teeth hurt from my sinus infections. I don’t know if you can even buy it now.

I think I’m going to make DH sliders tonight with beef I'm thawing. I am going with the chili/taco stuff and maybe roast a poblano pepper and stuff it with the meat and some cheese. The taco salads were tasty last evening.

Bon appétit!
