How is everyone's summer going? July is moving right along, can't believe fall is just around the corner. I know some of you are working on Christmas blocks and planning trips so decided I should get August up and posted to give a bit more time. Moving onto something a wee bit easier this month.

This is called Potato Chip block. The directions are here:

https://abyquilts.wordpress.com/2024/04 ... hip-block/

We will be using 2.5 x 4.5 rectangles. If you want to plan where your lights and darks go, feel free. I am not going to. My thought was this could work as a crumb type block and would look great with either Black or White sashing. Black would be my first choice. But the winner can do as they wish.

Please try to not repeat a fabric in each individual block. Otherwise, anything goes, throw in one of those Christmas fabrics you all have out, a batik here and there, maybe a football, summer. The list is endless.

This is what we most would call easy, but....... yep, always the but....., it does depend on accurate cutting and accurate 1/4 inch seam to stay square. I squared up when it was 8.5 inches. Once you put the last of your rectangles on, it should be 12.5 unfinished.

Please ask if you have any questions. I also take suggestions.

Happy sewing!

Not sure were they get the name for some of these blocks, maybe they were snacking on chips at the time. KathyR

I think it’s called potato chip block because you can’t make just one. They are addictive.

Thanks, Valerie, for posting this swap early. I was afraid I wouldn’t have time to join for August. I loved this block and happened to have some rectangles already in my rectangle box plus some 2 1/2 inch strips I could cut. It was fun and only took me about 90 minutes to make four blocks.

Very nice Mary, nice grouping of fabrics. Glad you could get some done before you leave.

Yesterday as I was stitching up a few more pencil cases, Maryz gave me a heads up that the August Lotto was posted! Since I hadn't gotten my July ones in the mail yet, I thought--hey let's get them all in the mail! I have one little box of just misc. jelly rolls pieces, probably left over binding strips that worked great!

So, here's my first one. Am sending 4 in today's mail!

Kathy and Mary, I laughed at your reasons for why it was called potato chip block.
I do some later. I have a few other things still working on this month.

Eager to have you join in Lori. It's not even August yet though so lots of time.

Funny someone brought up this block at MAD Monday yesterday (talk about coincidences) and wondered about why it was named as such so I did inform her, she thought that was cute.
