I must be crazy

Post by Suzquilts » Mon Aug 13, 2007 5:23 am

But I decided to cut my scraps into usable sizes after reading an article about it. Made sense that having the cutting done would make it easier to get started on scrap quilt projects. But man! Who knew how long this would take; I've done 1.5" strips (in preparation for a Log Cabin), 1.5" squares, 2.5" strips and 2.5" squares (for a pattern called Chiclets I found on line). I only have one small plastic box left and then I need to sort into light and dark. It may save time in the future but I'm not too sure I'd be able to do this again.

P.S. Oops, just realized I might be in the wrong section for this! Sorry ladies! Monday brain dead I suppose.

Doesn't sound crazy to me. Just think when you have the time to sit and sew you can then "put the peddle to the medal", just what El says.

I think you will be so happy when you actually get to start the quilt. Sometimes the prep work is very time-consuming!! I spent most of 2 days getting all my pieces cut for the Underground Railroad BOM, but it sure is nice to have them ready for sewing! And all the scraps of fabric put away, ready to do what you've just done, I guess!

Cutting is a lot of work! I started doing that with scraps or older fabric and I have mine in a 3 drawer plastic bin according to size, or they were until gd got into them! lol

Fab. web site.......www.quiltvillecustomquilting.com

She cuts her fabric into strips and has lots and lots and lots of free patterns for scrappy quilts.

One day I will be as organized as she is..................probably not as I haven't started even reading the "Idiots guild to organization" yet. LOL

You will be so glad you did it - once it's all done. It's like canning - a lot of work at the get go but when you see all those jars lined up and open them up in the dead of winter, you are SO GLAD you did it.

Tiggersmom: how funny that's the site I found that gave me this goofy idea in the first place. Thanks for that.

Almost done, I thought then discovered the double sized bin of blues hiding in my closet. Oh well, another day or so maybe. If life wouldn't get in the way this would be so much easier.

Suzquilts - you are not crazy. You are very industrious and I think you are very organized to get all this done before you sit down to sew. Good for you!

This sounds like a good rainy Fall day project, to me. I did this years ago and have never touched them again. Looked at the squares one day & thought, "OMG! What was I ever thinking when I went through my Mom's stash and got most of this stuff." LOL Bless her little heart, she does not throw 1 tiny pc. out. Even if someone gave it to her because it was so ugly, they sure did not want it. LOL

I cut and sorted every scrap I had. I ended up with so much it was getting out of hand. I ended up putting all the pieces in the White Elephant sale at guild. I haven't missed them yet. LOL
