I think there's a reason that the word "Turkey" is in the name of this block! LOL Please read the instructions in the book carefully. Especially the cutting instructions or you might wind up doing what I did and cutting the background 3 times before getting it right. I think this block needs to be in the "Quilt Block in a Day" book instead of "Quilt in a Day"! If you have the DVD you will want to watch it, maybe even more than one time.

I found using a wooden stiletto (my free gift from my last order) came in real handy. Also, using that spacer scrap piece between blocks. It kept the machine from twisting the block. I didn't use it on the first piece and I had to do some unsewing. :^( Make sure you put your little "dot" for the stopping place on there. Don't go past it by even one thread. As you can tell, I did this. You can learn from my mistakes. I only got one block done and I will post the front and back here. It turned out to be 12 1/4" unfinished so I guess I will be putting framing borders around each block.

You will deffinently need to remove some stitches in the center of the block on the back and create that little four patch. It will still be thick but not as thick.

Don't let my comments discourage you. Just take your time and read the instructions carefully and you will do fine.

Please, if anyone has any useful tips/hints please post them.

I totally agree with you, so much so that I sort of skipped this block and moved to the next one! But before the month is over I will probably get it done. I've done this one before and knew that it was a toughie!

Here's my block - Just let me say, "This was a pain in the patooey!" I originally had it put together like Evie, but I just hated how thick the middle seam was, I even pounded on it to get it to lay flat, and it would not work for me. So I ripped out the seams and sewed it like this. And as Evie says, DO NOT even sew 1 stitch beyond your dots. I am pretty sure that I would never ever want to make this block again!

I forgot to say, Evie love your block, wish mine had worked to have it set like yours!

Littlebit, you did a great job on that block. Love the colors.

Traci, don't feel bad! I did a lot of recutting and unsewing and resewing on this block.

Littlebit, I really like the colors you have chosen and the setting looks very interesting.

How is everybody doing on their blocks? I still haven't made my second one yet. Hopefully sometime this week.
