ImageGood morning,

TINA B - glad to see you! Good news that your DD's surgery is over and she is doing well. I thought you might have gone to VA to be with her. Or was it a local DD? How many DD's do you have? Do you make your quilt tops from scratch? Make blocks and then assemble them? That is a LOT of work for just one person in so short a time.

LORI - shame on me! How many times did you tell us about your retreat - and then I go and forget where you were! Did you have a good time? Sew some good stuff? Taste some good stuff? How is your house looking right now? Did you say your are planning to go to Sisters Quilt Show this year? What dates will you be there? We are looking at going, too, though the campground we like to stay at is all booked. All depends on if my other hip holds out. Bill is even looking at volunteering to hang quilts or take them down.

CHRISS - I'm with you - 7 ravvies don't a meal make! How do you fix your cauliflower? Lara roasts it with olive oil and garlic and maybe some seasonings. And it's finger food/appetizer. This is Lara who wouldn't eat veggies (and at 54 still doesn't much). This is also how I make brussels sprouts. I cut the larger ones into bite size pieces. I stand by my wish for you wearing Elliott out - you'll wear out before he does, Gramma! But joyfully! Play chase for a few hours, then lay on the floor and read books, snuggled. One of you will fall asleep - guaranteed.

JUDI - I never thought of dust that way. Mom! Daddy! I might not dust again! I'll have to talk to LuLu. . . . Yep! It's time to start thinking about putting the hockey quilt together. This gives you time to cogitate any problems you may run into. And it feels so good to have gifts done and wrapped before needed. And yes, most days we have hundreds of folks reading our forum. Yet only about 9 of us post. What's with that?? What ever happened to Izzy? And Joyce who lived on a horse farm in KY?

LYN - Good to hear the snot makers have left. No, your block wasn't one I needed to alter. I knew which one was yours because of the pretty blue bonnet fabrics! I have some of the same one. I think MQ got half of the plates. I saw you checked out the photo. Thanks. Do you do Garry's laundry or let the facility do it?

MARY Q - count me in for the closet cleaning! I love sorting, purging/ organizing. In fact, LuLu told us it's time for spring cleaning. lol! Maybe she's looking for more hours. I, too, have purses I'll never use, clothes I don't wear. But I might some day, so I keep them. Next time we're in TX, by all means come down! We usually stay a couple nights near Sue and Cindy. They both have guest rooms. It would be fun to all be together for a visit! I think our home insurance is about $1800/yr. And it's replacement value. I bet Chriss's is so high because, #1, she's in Cali, and #2 she's in Cali's fire zone up near the mtns. I just might roll the dice on that, too. And yes, Bob was the one who bought a 40 ft toy hauler and took a long tour around the country. We bumped into him a few times in Texas. Now he's sold that, bought a house in Hillsboro, just west of Portland. He is about 50 miles south of where we are now. Good opportunity to visit. I'll tell him you said hi. (he's single, you know . . . .)

JANA - Sorry your smart thermostat is out-smarting you. We have a Honeywell and it works great. It knows the outside temp, how long it takes to bring our house up to the temp we want at the time we want, and it starts the furnace at the time it takes to bring up that temp. It's smarter than I am, for sure! The temps here are in low 40's this week but spring is definitely here. Daffodils are in full bloom, violets, too, and my daphne. The grass needs mowing (though I notice that no one is mowing it!). Yesterday as we were pulling out of the driveway with our trailer, it was 36* and a few tiny flakes were floating down. For just a few minutes. I think that was our snow for the year.

DIANE - so sorry to read of more health woes in your family. I'll be offering prayers for you all!

LOIS - You must keep your hair pretty short. So nice to have regular trims from Olivia. The last haircut I got, I really got my money's worth! I won't need to go back for a few more months!

We are in our RV park, with one rig parked between us and our kids. They were ready for our arrival with wine and a charcuterie board for supper and a great catch up visit! Have to say, since they came home from D.C., I've learned to spell the word "charcuterie". They have that for their supper once every week or so. A variety of cheeses, crackers, berries, olives, dried apricots, and sometimes nuts. And on the side, a sliced baguette to dip in olive oil and basalmic vinegar. It's all very tasty but there's generally not a veggie in sight!

Today Bill and I are driving back up I-5 about 35 miles to visit my BFF, Marlene. We've been besties for nearly 50 years. We met in belly dance classes back in 1978 when our youngest girls were babies. We eventually formed a dance troupe, "Chandra", and performed all over the region for ten years. Sadly, she is in early stages of dementia and now lives in a memory care facility. Tonite L&L are taking us to a restaurant here that they love. But we have to be at the door at 5pm when they open if we want a table. I'm not sure what kind of food, so it will be a nice surprise - I hope. :D

Hugs to all! have a Fabulous Friday!

Good Morning Girls

Just a fast hello this morning, as I am getting ready to go pick up Peg then head down to the Brother Sewing machine shop to leave my embroidery machine for repair. We may get some snow flurries today, but the roads are clean and dry so I think I can handle it! I'm quite a scaredy-cat when it comes to driving in snow.

You'll be happy to know I did tackle my closet yesterday, well, sort of. I did clean out a collection of purses--found one I bought at Goodwill that still had the tag on it! It will either go right back to Goodwill in a donation box or I'll take all of then down to Wisconsin for the big garage sale in May. I really should keep that in the back of mind as I go through things. Also found a box of old jewelry that belonged to my great Aunt Jewel. I might hang on to that and share with my nieces when I see them next month. Haven't gone through all the clothes yet as that will involve trying things on to see what fits. Some stuff I save for some when I lose that next 10 pounds (constant battle) Some stuff is just plain ugly and goes in the "why did I even buy this" pile. I'd say about 60% of the clothes in there came from thrift stores so I don't feel bad about tossing them back into a donate box.

After we drop off my sewing machine, Peg and I are going to drive out and check out the indoor garage sale---not that I need anything obviously but it's always fun to look!

Better run... need to put on public face and do something with hair! Man I need a hair cut... it's getting so long I can almost put it in a pony tail!

Wishing you all a very Fabulous Friday.. Prayers all around. Think of Laura & Nick and Garry and Lyn and Susie!

Good morning!

Cold, and that's about all I know out there. Today is PT and I'm hoping to sneak up to meet "Spike". The kids house is just up the road, West of the hospital where PT. I. I'll see, Mr G is being his fussy self, saying this is wrong, or that is wrong and he can't do the exercises. So I may get stuck at PT because he may get done early. We'll see ......

My dishwashers all went kaput. So i need to make a few phone calls and get my new one. I hand to hand wash last night which is a terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad thing! I hate hand washing!

Ethan was down yesterday. For part of his online school, his PE class, he needed physical activity, so he came down and moved totes and boxes in the storage area, putting things 8n the proper place. It's nice having that done and organized. Ethan is coming again to help me move the bed. Someone unplugged and messed up Mr G's system of lights in my bedroom and he's been complaining about that for 3 years and I finally figured out how to move thebed easily, those furniture sliders. That way I can shove the bed around and Mr G can get to the lighting mess.

Mr G's new fussy gripe is the thermostat. It's not on auto, just not coming on. He always complained, but not nearly this bad! And one of the meds makes this worst.

So I'm off, I know right where my stash of paper plates are, along with plastic spoons, etc,.

Hugs, and prayers,
Jana

Overcast and cool.

MaryZ, When Garry first got to the facility, I was doing his laundry but sometimes it wasn't there because they were doing it. It depended on who was changing him and if they put dirty clothes in the bottom of the closet or in the laundry basket in the hall. Since it's in the price, I told them to do it. I keep a check on it and if I need to, refresh his name with a Sharpie.

Chriss, So far Garry has only been upset with the staff, not me, which I'm thankful for. Time for me in the last 2 weeks has been coming home and taking a nap, which I normally don't do. Minnie enjoys the extra snuggle time.

Jana, I didn't mean to use the word 'auto', I meant the program you can set up to have the unit come on at a certain time and lower at a certain time. That's what my HVAC guy told me not to use. It will get to where you can't over ride it, it gets a mind of it's own. Good luck with yours.

Garry has a friend, Jim Cooper (wife, Carol) that live just south of Minneapolis. They met back in Virginia when Garry was hired by United Airlines and stationed there. Jim was an air traffic controller. They hunted and fished together until Garry had seniority to get based in Denver. We have visited them a couple times and they have visited us in Canada, on the Texas coast and here. Carol called a few weeks back and said they were coming the end of February, on their way to Arizona, in their Motorhome. So, I figured next weekend. Nope, they called yesterday from Oklahoma City and will be here Saturday afternoon. So, I will be cleaning today and tomorrow. I'm not sure if they will come to the house. The closest campground to the nursing home is west of Burnet. Jim wondered about parking here and I quickly told him there wasn't room in the driveway with our MH here. In the past it's been at the coast. Anyway it will be interesting to have them visit. I told Garry they were coming and a couple minutes later he said, Hell. I said, what, hell that they are coming to visit and he nodded yes. Garry would tell you that Jim tells the same stories every time we see them. But, the funny thing is, Garry does the same thing.

Prayers for needs here.
Lyn

I cannot get down on my knees to do the baseboards anymore and ceiling fans and doorways mean a step stool also not a good ides anymore..this one is 6ft and I can reach much of the stuff that is dusty, So this week I will bid farwell to the relatives hanging around my house...( dust) the weekend will be filled with out of town hockey..Liams team is in playoffs and he had the flu this week but says he will play. Good morning. It's going to be getting a little warmer. The snow on my mountain has melted and we are back to the sun shining on the dew making the yard sparkle. We aren't supposed to get rain until Tuesday.

Yesterday the power went out for about an hour or so. Was glad I had made deviled eggs for dad with some leftover for me, it was my dinner. I am going to cook the steak I bought this morning. Seems that when I thaw something out or buy something I get a roadblock and don't end up cooking it as planned. frustrating.

Maryz, there is a restaurant in Los Banos that is family style seating. If you want a spot you have to be there early or stand in line until a seat opens up. It's Basque food and you pick your entree but there are about 5 things they serve before the main meal. If your get there by 5 meal is as good as it is at the Woolgrowers you are in for a treat. Being in Cali has a lot to do with my homeowners insurance. People are finding it hard to finance houses because of the insurance coverage, if people can't buy them people can't sell them. I think they are calling it a housing crisis. They should just call it unaffordable.

Maryq, it's like we are twins. I also buy thrift store things then after a while decide I am not thrilled and donate it back. The other day for $3 I bought a big picture that I hung in my kitchen. It's a blue and white vase full of sun flowers. I keep looking at it and wonder if I like it or not. So fun to find treasures in the closets.

Jana, sorry about the dishwashers. If I had to cook big meals every day I would also not like washing by hand. Hope you find just what you are looking for and quickly get it installed. I admit, cleaning frying pans or pots isn't my favorite, but there aren't many.

Lyn, I think a nice afternoon nap helps the body decompress a bit and get that extra boost of energy. I'm glad you are able to take advantage of a nap and a Minnie snuggle, both sound relaxing and comforting. I had to mark Jerry's clothes and belongings with his room number 111. I put address labels on his phone, charger and tv. I hope that Jim and Garry have a great visit. What a wonderful thing for them to do, Oh gosh, Saturday is tomorrow. I really hope they tell the same old stories over and over.

Judi, farewell to those relatives. I have been looking at those dust mop things. Hope both boys do well at their hockey games. I donate my things to a thrift store that supports a local Christian school. The only other choice here is Goodwill and it's pretty trashy. I either shop at the Christian school thrift store or go out of town for my treasure hunting.

Lois, isnt' it wonderful to have kids close by who can take care of things needing to be done? you are a blessed lady.

Lori, hope the retreat was wonderful.

Allrighty, I need to get moving. I think dinnner will be that steak. I never got my cauliflower salad (faux potato) made. Perhaps today.

You all have a groovy day.
Chriss

Dishwashers are ordered and scheduled for install next Friday. A PT day, but Mr G jumped at the chance to not go.

Lyn - I understood what you meant. Ours has a programming option for times and that's what we're trying to get right. I guess I need a teenager to do this! LOL

Maryz, yes, I am going to Sister's OR for the quilt show this year. We booked our rooms many months ago. I did sew some fun things and taste some yummy wines. Looks like Foxy is very happy sitting next to mom.

Maryq, you can repurpose that old jewelry and make 3d pictures with it. My friend made a bouquet of flowers with them and won 2nd place at the fair.

Jana, oh no, both dishwasher went out at the same time? Yay for new ones.

Chriss, yay for warmer weather. We're supposed to warm up too. Enjoy that steak. I had one the other night and it was wonderful.

Lois, it's nice to have people who are handy. Always good to get little projects done. I need a haircut but that will wait until next week.

Judi, I'm never dusting again.

Lyn, that's funny about the story telling. Bill likes to tell the same stories again and again. I like a good nap once in a while.

Retreat was fun. Sewing, chatting, eating, wine tasting and lots of laughter. We had storms roll through the area the everyday. On Tuesday night the wind and rain were so loud I didn't get to sleep until about 0230. I was moving slow the next day. I made another mini and quilted up a table mat. The rest of the time I worked on "Brave" quilt by Anna Maria. I bought the kit last year and wanted to make it. Most of my time was spent fussy cutting pieces. I have some circles that I'm hand appliquéing down and then it will be ready to put all the pieces together.
I was going to put a roast in the crockpot this morning and I forgot. So I'll figure something else out for dinner.

Have a lovely day.
