Thursday 2/6
Good morning everyone, my advice to you all is do not fall! Large painful bruise on my left arm, scraped up swollen right knee, aches and pains, headache, tender spot left forehead. But other than that, nothing is broke and I will most likely make it.
Today one patient and slow stitch. I have DGD quilt already to go. Just needs a good pressing and drop off at the shop. I will do the pressing at slow stitch tonight. Didn't sleep good last night so will probably just stay to press and worry about my bindings another night. We are due for more rain and looks like it could be heavy come end of slow stitch.
Lori how is Dad?
Flo prayers that dialysis is a long long ways off. Which hospital there does transplants. Most people here either go to UC Davis or San Francisco. The husband of one of the girls I sew with is on dialysis. I think he has been on it about 10 years. Medical compliance is hugh factor in renal health.
Lyn I bet you will be thrilled when all is said in down with the sewing house. Be careful with those Cinder blocks. How long until you can get regular stairs?
Chriss sorry to hear you are not up to par. The birds here keep me awake. They seem to start early here. There are people who do taxes, you don't have to have a CPA, (they are pricey). Turbo tax though walks you through it so I think you will be okay. There is a limit to deductions and I wonder if you would be better off just claiming standard deduction.
Flo will certainly keep DH in prayers. It would sure be nice if they could come up with medications that don't make you sicker than the illness.
Tina I will certainly add Holly to my list. What did the foot doctor say?
Maryq not sure I consider 25* warm but if you say so, ok. We are 43*, going to be 55* with rain returning. Rain may be heavy at times. Yes I found a new gal to quilt larger quilts. My usual gal can only to to 90 inches wide. This quilt is 99 x 101 so too big for her. The girl who was doing my larger quilts traded in her 14 ft frame for a 10 ft frame so now she can't do larger quilts.
Jana our wind is picking up here, hoping not as bad as the other day. I don't really want to get blown to the land of Oz. I didn't realize Mr G had that much to do with BART. I did hear on the news last night that crime is down I think they said 13% on BART. I think you should just buy a cow, you use a lot of milk.
Maryz where are you? Oh maybe you are close to me? Watch the weather closely. Many non passable roads in the great state of California. Work wants me to work Sat, I guess if I can get there I can work. Safe driving.
Well the headache is coming back looking at this screen so I will scoot. Hope you all stay safe and well.

Good Morning we are ice covered and cold The roads are brined and salted so not too bad but side streets and walks and everything else is covered in ice. cloudy and gloomy too...what to do on a day like today??? Warm up the kitchen and bake cookies...I have a request from the rink guys so peanut butter cookies today and maybe one other kind if I have enough ingredients..might be short of brown sugar,,,but I can make some if I have to...so if you need me I will be in the kitchen trying not to eat too many cookies...
My grandsons picked up the bunkbeds from the kids room so It now will become Ken's office...I would like a few bookcases and a comfy chair in there but we shall see what he wants after we get back from FLorida...
Hope you are all having a great day,,,Val I hope your aches and pains go away soon...XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Re: Thursday 2/6
Good morning,
I slept clear until 4:30 this morning! Yay! I'm finally adjusting to Mountain time! Only one more time zone to go! And after that Daylight Savings Time will hit and I'll have to go back an hour again. Arghhh..
LORI - You always sound so calm, like you have everything together and it's all running smoothly. I'm glad one of us has a handle on life.
CHRISS - there is an app for that! You hold your phone out when the bird is chirping nearby and the app will tell you what it is. Bill has it on his phone. And it works great. You are having company overnight for two nights? Do you have your spare room all set up yet? Or are they bringing an RV with them? Or. . . .? I hope the Memorial and the visit goes well.
FLO - glad your DS1 is doing well. So, as I'm understanding it, the port was put in for if/when he will need dialysis? I know home dialysis has been a thing for decades. My high school friend's dad did it for over 20 year. Though it might be problematic to do while long haul trucking. Any chance he could get a job driving closer to home?
LYN - It's almost time to start planning the fun stuff! Do you have shelving to hold your fabrics in your quilting cabin? Or will you be using another storage system? A sewing table? Cutting table? Will you put your quilting table in there and leave it or does it go with you in the MH? Do you plan a corner with a chair for Garry to hang out? And thanks again, for your help and concerns yesterday. Thanks to you when I saw the Goodwill sign I knew the campground was close by! Turns out Goodwill is right outside the CG gate! Along with a big grocery store and at least 4 restaurants. I think we're going to survive our wait here!
DIANE - how is your DH feeling today?
TINA - Prayers offered for your Holly, of course. How did dr appt go yesterday? I hope that foot starts improving for you soon.
MARY Q - how are the eyes?? Congrats on finishing the baby girl quilt. If you don't have enough border fabric, get creative with what you do have - maybe make a coordinating block for each corner? Add a block to the border centers, too, if necessary. Or once, I put blocks in the corners and then set a square of my focus fabric on point in the exact center of each border and then made flying geese "flying" from that square towards the corners in each direction. I used fabric that increased in color value as they "flew" away from the center. Then for the rest of the border I used my border fabric. I used as many geese as needed to take up the length that I had to cover. Or maybe you could just do a narrow, solid inner border and then make 3 or 4 inch blocks out of your border fabric and whatever your background fabric is - white? beige? and take those blocks all around? Lot more work, but might be effective.
When do you plan to meet with your new quilting group? Maybe they will have some ideas for you. It will be fun and interesting to have a man included. A good person to know if he buys fabric by the bolt! I wonder what his sewing room looks like.
JANA - I have no idea where Rio Vista is - or even what state it is in. All the SW states have "Rio Something" towns. But that BART car was headed west on I-40, almost to Tehachapi when we saw it. And it was definitely not a new car. Glad your eyes are improving. Will you always need to have the treatment or do you "envision" a time ever of being cured?
LOIS - did you make it to your sewing room yesterday? How is Sandi doing? I know you want to get to that snowman!
VAL - how are you feeling today? Glad you survived your fall but a bummer you are sporting bruises and scabs. Hope all heals OK. We have, so far, dodged all the rain storms but now have come up against the Siskiyous and are stopped for a few days. There's been lots of flooding in this area from rain over last weekend with more to come, I think. But we will be high and dry in our RV park. Going to wait for all the bad weather to clear before we hit the road again.
JUDI - I can smell those cookies from here! And you haven't even started them yet! Sounds like you should start calling that room your communal "den" rather than Ken's office or Ken's den. Let him get used to thinking of it that way. A reading nook sounds so cozy! But if that idea doesn't fly with him, tell him you'll do it in his man cave instead . . . . see what happens.
Autumn just texted that Amara carried our framed 8x10 picture around all day yesterday, and kept saying "I'm the baby. Non and Pop's baby." Aut had to take it carefully away from her and put it back on the wall at bedtime. She asked us to make another copy and laminate it for easier carrying.
#1 on the to-do list when we get home.
Yesterday wasn't so long in the saddle. Just 250 miles - just how we prefer our travel days to be. We made it to Red Bluff, about 150 miles south of Oregon border. We are about 600 miles from home but 100 miles of that is driving through the Siskiyou Mtns that run north/south over the OR/CA border. And two days of snow are predicted and chains are required. NOT our kind of fun!! It will just be rain here. So we are hunkered down for a few days. Since we have time Bill decided to unhitch the truck, go get the fuel filters changed, and cross our fingers we'll be able to re-hitch later. If the trailer leg doesn't retract he can do it manually, but it's not fun to do. And as long as we are unhitched, we found a quilt shop! A lady named Natalie who lost everything in the Paradise Fire a few years ago and came to Red Bluff to rebuild her quilt shop here. Sadly, though, for here, her DH retired so she is closing the shop and they are moving to Kentucky near Paducah. She says CA is just too expensive to live here anymore. So her prices are closeout deals. I spent too much money, and, that being said, I'm going back later today to spend some more! She had wonderful, top quality, up to date, fabrics. It's my first quilt shop this trip, so I need to make up for QS's I missed. I also plan to hit the Goodwill this afternoon. Maybe some wonderful items will jump out at me. Looking for some sandbox type toys for Amara.
Last night we had hamburger patties (I like to call them salisbury steak,
), leftover Rice'a'Roni, and salad. I haven't decided yet what tonite will be. I plan to visit the grocery store which is also across the alley from us and see what I might find. Maybe some chicken or pork chops.
Offering prayers up for the many needs in our special group.

Overcast, but no rain here, going to mid 80's.
Valerie, I'm sorry you are hurting. You need to be careful girl, your about to retire and you won't have any fun if your banged up.
Flo, Good to hear DS1 is home. Hope he doesn't need that port for a long time.
The HVAC guy should be here in a few minutes. The construction guy was here yesterday and fixed window trim, put baseboard trim down and all got a first coat of paint.
Prayers for your needs. Have a great day.
Lyn

Good Morning !
Happy Thursday! Man this week is going by fast, but then aren't they all lately! Bright and sunny but pretty darn cold here this morning. With luck we will se 18* above zero! We got a little bit of snow last night, not sure it's enough for our plows to come, so I may have to bundle up and shovel a little bit. I don't mind, I do a little at a time and the fresh air feels kind of good.
Valerie... Oh my goodness, you really took a tumble for all those places to be hurting! One of the reasons I moved into my townhouse with no steps is the fear of falling down the steps at my old house. Hope you feel better soon!
Judi.... Every once in a while I get a real craving for cookies! Must be my body just really wanting CARBS!! But I have to resist as carbs are the one thing I shouldn't be eating!
You're changing your guest room into an office for Ken? I bet he will love having a little sort of "man cave" !
Maryz... How cool is that!! Finding a LQS with a sale going on no less! Hope you go back together and find more fun stuff. I think I might have a plan for the border on the baby girl quilt, as I have a lot of the white background fabric left and may use just pieces of the borders for corner stones. I'm waiting until the "divine inspiration" hits me. Eyes are fine, no problems at all! Makes me kind of wonder why Dr. thought I needed the extra scan.
Lyn... Sounds like you are making great progress in the cabin!! When are you going to start moving you machines etc over? Wish I was there, I'd love to help!
Flo... You son's surgery went well? Ah yes, let us hope he that the port won't be needed for a long time! Happy "ketchup" day! How are your chickens doing?
Chriss.... Sorry to hear you have been feeling kind of "punk" That's what my Gramma used to call it! IGA eggs were almost $11. a DOZEN Holy moly... I think I wouldn't be eating eggs for a while. There's some folks around here that want the city to change the rules and allow for backyard chickens so they can get their own eggs. Some cities around Minneapolis allow it but you can't have a rooster!
Lori.... I ended up not having to get eyes dilated which was wonderful as it was a bright sunny day that even sunglasses wouldn't have helped. Normally I don't mind as the eye dr is literally 3 blocks from my house. I could walk there if it weren't 18* degrees! I'm hoping with my new little quilt group that I'm trying to put together that we can make some connections for finding places to donate quilts too, I know there are many options!
Not sure what plan of the day is here... as always there are several options. Yesterday I ran over to Katie's next door for something and ended up coming home with a new sewing project! It was really dangerous moving next door to another sew-er (hate typing sewer as it looks like I'm saying drain pipes
) She's making little draw string bags for some Senior Centers or something, so of course I had to try it. In a matter of about an hour I had 10 of them made! As I was looking for fabric to use up I can across some pretty pink/grey/white fabric I bought YEARS ago and thought "Oh this would make a "Walk About quilt"... So now I have ANOTHER squirrel running through my house! -- on top of the fabric I could use for draw string bags. I even found a chunk of fabric I bought from QIAD back in 2007? It's about time some of this gets used up!
Guess I'll go get started on the day!
Hoping all of you have a wonderful day and that your squirrels aren't chasing YOU!

Good morning!
Back to normal temperatures. We're 25. For winter time, that's better than the over 60's we were having.
Mr G has no idea on what that errant BART car was doing down there! Now Rio Vista is a small town on the Sacramento River. It's not far from Valerie in Vallejo or my old house in Concord. There's a railroad museum, run by volunteers that have track and run old interurban train cars. Interurban cars were the first type of a commuter railroad back in the 1920"s. We went there quite often. The track the museum owns is the Old Sacramento Northern track. Mr G's grandfather was a signal engineer on that railroad. That railroad ran from San Francisco to Chico. Mr G went all over that railroad as a kid with his grandfather and was taught from a early age about railroad signaling, which Mr G did for his entire career at BART. He loved his grandfather dearly and followed his footsteps. And my kids did too, tha why we have engineers in the next generations too.
We are going shopping today for a additional dresser in my bedroom. I could use a bit more storage. I'm leaning to just a three or 4 drawer, not to long either. I ordered yesterday new house numbers to replace the ugly one that fell off the front of the garage. I have a tan-yellow house, red brick and the builder put this ugly gray cement thing on the front center of the garage. Vi paid extra for one that was to be embedded in the stucco, that matched, but all they did was glue this gray one on. A good thing after all that the glue failed, now I get a better one. And put it where I want! There's only a small dirty area where the old one was, so that can be scrubbed cleaner.
So not much here.
Safe driving, do fun stuff,
Hugs,
Jana

Valerie, sorry you are hurting. I think as we get older, we forget to slow down and be more cautious. I know I forget and sometimes get reminded by aches and pains. Did you get your chair?
Dad's okay. He's no longer mobile so he sits in the front room during the day and then they put him in his bed at night. He sleeps most of the time.
Judi, peanutbutter cookies are my favorite. I made them last week and ate way too many. I made shortbread cookies this week, but the stone only makes 8. I may make some more today. With only 4 ingredients they are quite easy.
Maryz, glad you are able to do a few fun things while you wait out the storm. I wish I was near that quilt shop. Retail therapy is always fun when it involves fabric. Hope it blows over sooner than later. I'm usually pretty calm. The crazier it gets, the calmer I become. I'm just weird that way.
Lyn, I like your weather better than mine today. It's drizzly here.
Maryq, yeah that's a little chilly to be out for a walk. I'm sure you'll find some place to donate quilts. Do you have a Ronald McDonald house near by? They take quilts.
Jana, I like that smaller size dresser, but they are hard to find.
Chriss, hope you are feeling better today. How are your son and Elliott doing?
Well our morning walk has been delayed due to rain. Jack is not happy. I need to hop in the shower and get a few things done around the house. I have binding ready to put on the 2 quilts and placemats I finished the other day. So that's what I will do.
Dinner will be leftover soup.
Have a lovely day.

Re: Thursday 2/6
Good morning peeps. It's going to be a wet and wonderful day today. According to the weather report the rain should start in about an hour and we will see 55*. Sure makes for a quick potty spot selection for the dog.
Yesterday I sewed and did some cleaning. Today I hope to do more of the same. I did, for the first time ever, make low carb mock potato salad using cauliflower instead of potatoes, it was pretty darn good. I couldn't remember if pickel relish went in potato salad or not and didn't add it.
Lori, I haven't seen funny farm but will check it out. I like Chevy Chase. I do wish we had mocking birds here. They were in the town I grew up in, but guess they don't want to make the 30 mile flight to my current elevation. I am feeling a bit better and my boys are still stuffy. Enjoy your walk inbetween the raindrops.
Valerie, sorry about the headache, I'll try to remember not to fall. Glad nothing is broken.
Jerry used to do the taxes but last year I did them on Turbo Tax and it worked. I never have enough to itemize and this year will be no different. There are things I can deduct. Next year will be much easier, it's just me, but who knows what tax laws will change.
Judi, I had to google Brined Roads. Here they just put sand on the icy roads, and really only on the highway. I think I will not come by for cookie baking day, I have to knock off a few creeping pounds.
Maryz, great find in that quilt shop. Seems there aren't may shops around here anymore. It is an expensive state unless you've been here a while. Bet both you and the QS owner are glad you're there to help her move fabric. Cute about Amara and the photo. Nice that she knows who she blongs to.
Lyn, I'm so excited for you. what fun to have your own space. It's going to be great. Do you love the paint color? I bet your mind is spinning with ideas on how it will be.
Maryq, so funny, Sewer, Jerry put a desk together for me some time ago and inside the drawer he wrote, To My Favorite Sewer, I questioned him about calling me a sewer instead of sew-er. We both lughed. good memory. Had to google walk about quilt, Love HST's. It will be beautiful. Eggs are more expensive depending on where you buy them. Yesterday there was a news report that someone hijacked a trailer full of eggs valued at 40K. I can have chickens here but don't want to deal with them, it might be cheaper to just go to costco and pick up eggs there. When you are craving those carbs go brush your teeth, it's a deterrant.
Jana, funny, you are looking for more storage and this past year I have gotten rid of 2 dressers because I didn't have anything to put in them. Hope you find the perfect one for your room. I guess someone could have bought that old bart car and is restoring it.
And now I have no more excuses. I think I will get dressed and perhaps go into Costco for a rotisserie chicken, or a chicken pot pie. I should have something ready incase my cousin and his wife get hungry. I really don't like having company, but it's family. I'm just not a person who likes to entertain.
You all have a super day

Re: Thursday 2/6
Hi everyone
Thank you for the prayers for Holly, it wasn't the outcome we were hoping for but it's God's plan and not ours.
The Dr said I have plantar fasciitis and she gave me a prescription for steroids for the inflammation, orders for physical therapy but I'm waiting to see if my insurance covers it or what I'd have to pay, also have an appointment Monday to see if insurance will cover better insoles. I'm supposed to get X-rays just before my next appointment in 3 months to see how it is but I don't understand how that works without having X-rays done now to compare the X-rays now and later with.
I didn't get home till 8 last night and we had to take Rosie to the vet this morning and Easton was sick with a tummy bug so we had him too today. I'm a little exhausted.
I still need to finish reading today's posts.
I hope you all have a great evening.
Prayers for all in need
