SUPPER CLUB - Sunday, April 2nd

Post by purrfect-lady » Sun Apr 02, 2023 6:43 am

Good morning.

It's Palm Sunday today. It seems we just got Christmas put away and here it is - almost Easter. But I guess I say that every year. We have no Easter plans. We invited our two grandsons, but they both asked it we could get together Tuesday after Easter instead and could we have pizza.

Yesterday I worked on my cats. I have them all traced and 11 of them fused and stitched down. I have 5 more to do and then some embellishments - butterflies, cute little mice, etc. I hope to start putting the blocks together this coming week. Bill is slowly quilting my Christmas Blizzard. Only two more tops in the QQ - Chandelier and Crazy. Though I won March lotto so that will be put together before long and so will Cats. So we'll be back up to 4 again pretty soon.

BECCA - It's good to hear Baby Frannie's first night home was a good one. Nights can be tough for brand new parents. What games are you playing with Avery? We played a lot of games with our kids all the way up until they left home. Hi Ho Cherry-o was one of their favorites when they were little.

LORI - you've been productive! Will you post a pic of your spool quilt? I really liked your mini churn dash. What's next?

VELDA - sorry your pork loin didn't turn out as well as you'd wished. My mom always poked whole cloves of garlic into slits in the roast, browned it, and then slow roasted it in the oven. It was always purrfect. I do it the same way but usually use the crockpot. However, I seem to have a tendency to overcook it which makes pork tough. So it's not my go-to company meal. But when I do have leftovers, I either shred it and heat it with BBQ sauce for sandwiches, dice it for pork fried rice, or for posole (pork & hominy soup, which is better than it sounds).

JANA - so, what did you decide on your sides last night with your burgers? I LOVE potato or pasta salad, but we usually opt for canned baked beans (when it's just us). Any word yet on your landscaper? I suppose you have to wait until the snow is gone but it would be nice to at least be on his calendar. I bet your little girls' dresses are so cute. Mom used to make ours when we were little and mine was always blue and my little sister's was always pink - our favorite colors. We are only 13 months apart. (She isn't the sister we camp/travel with who is 9 yrs older than I am.)

CAROL - your neighborhood sounds pretty. Can you see the water from your house/yard? And in case you were wondering, we have your brine recipe and always brine our pork roasts now.

TINA - You can always look up the address of the owner next door and write him a letter. It probably won't do much good but it might make you feel better to vent your feelings. Though, don't forget that old adage about honey and vinegar. . . . We've simplified our yards here. I love flowers but let most of them go as it's getting harder to take care of them. We're trying to make things easier as we get older.

Well, Bill gave my stuffed peppers a firm thumbs down last night. Guess I won't make those again. So tonite we're going with orange chicken over rice with a side salad. I know he likes that.

I hope you like your supper tonite!

Good morning everyone!
I'm here early for me LOL
Mary, are you using a pattern for your cat's quilt or just making it up? It sounds really cute with adding butterflies and mice.
I've actually talked on the phone several times with the farmer that owns the land, it did no good at all.
This afternoon starts a 3 full days and nights of high winds. Our electric company even sent us an email on how bad it could get and there's a possibility of it snapping more power poles.
I just put a roast in the crockpot for supper, yummy.

Good afternoon from a very sunny, warm, SW. Pa...Honestly, you'd think it was the end of April or even May, it's gorgeous around here...Although, we did have very high winds last night and there are small branches and twigs everywhere....Our lights even flickered and that never happens.....But, this also didn't stop my sister from scooping me up and going to dinner and then playing cards at a friend's house...Before I left, I did make sure Kevin and my close neighbor knew I was going out and if needed at home, please call...We sure have been having strange weather but I do love, love the sun and warmth....

Mary, Oh my, it won't be long now...I have everyone on this side of the country praying for a safe delivery and of course a healthy baby....I can only imagine how you're feeling these days...But, you're doing the best thing by staying busy but then you always are busy.....Can't wait to see the kitty quilt...I think my next one will be a Penguin quilt for DGD Jackie and then another Harley Tshirt quilt for my nephew.....This is my favorite nephew but I keep teasing, 1 little slip and he'll loose that title....He and his girlfriend have invited me to dinner on Easter...My sister always has a big to do and all the family is there BUT, the family have decided, they don't care for his girl and completely ignore her...He's even told his Mom, my sister, he no longer has a family except for me....This is part of the drama going on in that part of the family..............
I was out working in the yard yesterday and trying to decide what flowers I need to buy and what I need to transplant....Kevin has already cut his grass and soon, he'll be after mine....

Becca, I had been looking all over after hearing the new baby had been named for you and couldn't find it until I saw Frances...I didn't know that was your name or did they use Becca? You really have so many exciting things going on in your life now, don't you? Hey, kiddo, that's what keeps you young! And speaking of young, what games were you playing? Before Kathy left to see the girls, she stopped at Walmart to get "Perfection"...Oh my, I had forgotten how much fun it was and was sorry she took it with her...Might have to get one just to keep here at the house.....

Tina, Do you think the neighbor is just being nasty or does he really need to do what he's doing? I can't imagine living with all the dust, not good for anyone.....

Well, gonna git! Do have clothes to fold and put away and that might be it for the day.....When you party the night before, it's tough to get the motor started the next day....I'm not sure what I might be eating later...Lots and lots of salad stuff and I even have a container of Panera Cream of Broccoli so that might be it....

You all have a great rest of the day..........

Happy eating.................

Good afternoon!

Tina- sorry about the dust. Talked to my resident farmer here, Daniel. He says that most likely the reason for what that farmer is doing with the field next to you is federal subsidies. He most likely has other fields that are better producing crops and to meet the rules, he leaves the field next to you empty to meet the rules. The farmer doesn't want any weed seeds floating around the other crops, so keeps tilling as a weed control. Daniel farmed rice for many years in the Sacramento Valley and explained about how these subsidies worked for his rice farming. It's really a pain!

Mary - maybe this is the week! Scheduled c-sections sometimes can be nice, no surprise waiting! The OWL quilt looks to be lots of fun and lots of variations for each to be individual. Sarah and I love the squirrels in the September book. As soon as I get this current project done, I'm starting mine. I 5hink my quilt will be scrappy from my stash, we'll see.

Irish - good to see you're still your sister's cohort in crime! I hate family drama too, and slowly that drama my brother caused is being undone. It will take time, but it has shown that I am still favorite Aunt!

Dinner - the hamburgers will finally get done. Probably chips with them.

Last session of General Conference is starting,

Hugs,
Jana

Good Afternoon,

Maryz - No, we do not have an ocean view. We are basically in a valley with hills on three sides. You are probably finished with the cats and now having fun with other creatures for the quilt. We will be staying home for Easter as well. I bought a ham yesterday and will be making scalloped potatoes probably next Sunday. Yes, I remember that I shared my brining recipe with you. DH and I love the Stuffed Pepper Casserole (Betty Crocker). The only change in the recipe I make is adding a few red pepper flakes.

Tina - I do not envy you for the high winds. They are my least favorite weather event. I was just reading an article in the paper about farmers in Fresno County flooding their fields to percolate and allow the groundwater to rise. I was glad to see the farmers being responsible for saving water for future use.

Becca - So we are the only ones to call you Becca? Frankie is a nice nickname for Frances too. Enjoy your alone time this afternoon and tomorrow. Avery must have had a great time.

Irish - Sorry for the family drama. Glad you can still be your nephew's favorite aunt and get an invitation to dinner on Easter.

Jana - I am sure you enjoyed your General Conference and Chocolate Waffles.

Dinner will be Chicken. I tried using blueberries in my scone recipe instead of raisins. The scones came out to bland. I will stick to blueberry Muffins in the future and use raisins in the scones! (Dried blueberries might be fine though.)
