SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, July 12th

Post by purrfect-lady » Tue Jul 12, 2022 6:20 am

Good morning,

Another nice morning here. I was out on the deck with my coffee but there are a few mosquitos out there. Not a lot but I hate mosquitos, so I moved inside. Yesterday was nice. A long hike in the Bark Park with the dogs. It's about a mile on the perimeter trail, plus we did some "cross country" trails through the woods because the dogs were having such a good time. It's a happy place for dogs! Then Jackie and I did a bit of shopping - I bought shelf liner in case my sisters get bored next month when they are visiting. Today, Jay & Jackie are taking Bogey golfing at a dog-friendly course about 2 hours from us. So they will probably be gone until suppertime. Then we're going out for Mexican. So I will work on my Christmas stockings today. I am really liking how they are turning out. I have two made so far. I am using the old quilt as the front of the stockings and then Christmas fabric for the backs, linings, and cuffs. The linings don't HAVE to be Christmas fabric, but I have some old pieces of rather flimsy materials that I've kept for years for just such projects. I'm sure I bought it many years ago back when I was growing my stash. I'm happy to be getting rid of it!

IRISH, I'm so happy to hear Tim is out of the hospital! What an ordeal this has been for them. Sorry you won't be seeing them on their return trip, but I imagine not much could keep them from home once they get turned that direction. My brother lives in North Pole, AK, about 625 miles from Haines. We've been to Haines a few times. And we've seen the eagles. They are amazing! And there used to be a lady in Homer down on the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula that had an eagle refuge in her yard. Lots of eagles there, too, fighting the seagulls on the beach for all the goodies that wash up. I am really missing our Hays Eaglets. I wonder how they are doing now. They shut the camera down a few weeks ago. And I wouldn't mind a piece of that cake myself!!

TINA - your kids are already going back to school?? When did they get out? Ours have only been out for about 2 weeks here. They go back after Labor Day. I've seen people with old family quilts cut them into pieces and frame the pieces and put the history of the quilt on the back of the frame. And then give them out to family members so everyone gets a piece of "Great Gramma's Quilt". Good news that Kevin is getting better. My massage therapist is still exhausted and has Covid brain. He had it last February. He has to take power naps when he can just to get through the day.

IZZY - do you make all your cheeses from your goats milk? If so, what makes cheddar different from mozzarella?

CAROL - happy belated birthday! I try to keep up on these things but you slipped by me! It must be your youthful attitude! How was dinner? Italian is our very favorite. And what kind of cake? White with chocolate frosting is my favorite cake. I hope it was white with chocolate frosting!

JANA - I saw that Cup of Cheer pattern. It's going to be quite a project! But you will love every moment of it. It looks pretty detailed. It's going to keep you busy for quite a while. Hope that fire stays where it is! Is anyone driving back to UT with Daniel or will he be alone on the trip? Is there any place else in the house where Kari could set up her computer if the broadband doesn't reach the basement?

Well, despite a fridge full of leftovers, we're off to Mexican restaurant tonite for supper. Jay & Jackie want to go. I think they are paying as a thank you for their stay here. They brought us a nice gift and a bottle of wine but they insist. We think they are leaving tomorrow. They are always such fun, stress-free guests and we love having them here! So no cooking tonite - or for a few more nights to come given the contents of the fridge!

How about you? What are your tastebuds craving tonite?

Good Morning,

Maryz - Thank you for the well wishes. The cake was not my favorite either, it was chocolate with white frosting. DH thought it was an ice cream cake and it was not. I did give Irish a hint last week when I told her that her refrigerator would be picked up on 7/11. I tell everyone I was born on the luckiest day of the year.

Today I will be going to a large discount fabric store with friends. I need to purchase backing for two quilts and would like to buy fabric to match a piece I have and make a Trip Around the World. I love the fabric I own and think this is just the right pattern to show it off.

Tonight's dinner will be Grilled Chicken.

Good afternoon!

Went to start this earlier and the power company called and informed us that the power was going to be shut off. They called 30 minutes after the supposed shut off time - so we quickly powered down all the important electronics. The last time time they did this, they blew up the electronics in my stove - so we did not want another $2000 dollar repair bill. We do have a whole house surge protector on the main panel - but shut things off, just in case! Well, we never lost our power. Poor Kari had important meetings, so she spent her time at the nearby Starbucks working. She's on her way home now. What a day!

So, we re-arranged some closet space for stuff that came out of the middle guest bedroom. And I thought I knew where a small wading pool I bought was - it's not - not anywhere in the house - upstairs or downstairs! Every nook, corner, closet, drawer has been opened, looked in and that darn pool is nowhere to be found! I did find part of my stash of water balloons I had fron last year to go with the new batch I bought this year. But that pool is not found! So I hope that the store I got it at has another one. Then the old one will show up! Murphy's Law! Ethan and Karlie are playing with the sprinklers and a hose - lots of giggles outside!

Dinner will be spaghetti and meatballs. I am cheating all the way around on dinner tonight. I have premade meatballs from Costco and jarred Rao's Marinara sauce. Cook noodles and voile - dinner! The Rao's sauce is extremely good - expensive, except at Costco, where you get two jars for the price of one at the regular grocery store.

So in all our looking, I did find a few missing things in the Batt Cave. I straightened up my LA area and found stuff I had been looking for. So now just a bit of sraightening my island and things are orderly again!

The fire is staying on the other side of the mountain, and the crews seem to be gaining control slowly. It is burning in steep, rough terrain of sagebrush and a few trees. The monsoon rains have started to appear again and they will help a lot. The lightning not so much, but you get both, and the rain is needed.

Daniel is planning to leave tomorrow morning early - the trailer with the trailer and car are loaded and ready to travel. All he needs to do is hitch it to his truck. He will come straight through.

Sarah has found another landscape contractor for us. The first guy has been dragging his feet and giving Sarah grief over what she wants where - this new guy lives right near us, just up the road in fact and is very willing to do what Sarah designs. The new guy was in between jobs and needs to keep his crews busy - so here we are - we can do that! Let the dirt begin! LOL! What's a little more chaos in my life right now? ROFLOL!

Now that I have written the newest loooong book of the year, I willl quit boring you!

Hugs,
Jana
