SUPPER CLUB - Saturday, Jan 8th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sat Jan 08, 2022 4:47 am

Good morning!

How are all our Northeastern friends? Rumor is you've got snow. I hope Irish is OK. Maybe I will text her later this morning and check on her.

Yesterday we made an early run to the grocery store. It was nearly empty of customers but we knew later in the day it would be a madhouse. We saw on Gig Harbor Town Talk (at home) someone posted a photo of our Fred Meyer grocery store (part of Kroger empire) and the check out lines extended halfway down all the aisles! I guess the mountain snow caused everyone to hurry and stock up! All routes to western WA have been closed for a few days due to snow and/or flooding so maybe there were a lot of hungry stranded folks.

After cleaning freezer/fridge and cabinets here I started sewing and made the stable to my Starry Night. This allowed me to sew Mary, Joseph, stable, and donkey all together yesterday. About 1/4 of my quilt. I have about 8 more sewing days left before I have to start packing up my stuff but even so, I don't have enough background fabric here to do more than half the quilt. I ordered more but it will be sent home. Hopefully it will be waiting for me when I get there.

I also ordered a new book. I was looking for fox patterns on Pinterest for Chickie, saw a cool pattern of a Halloween town on a hillside. Because I'm a computer clutz, I accidentally sent that to Chickie when I was trying to save it for myself. Then neither of us could find it after that. Enter Tina, who found it in short order in a book called Happy Villages by Karen Eckmeier. We ordered it and it, too, will be waiting for me at home! It has several different village patterns in it. :D

BTW, Chickie is about the same, having lots of very dizzy spells. Her vertigo, remnants of her strokes, at times has her on the ground, not knowing which way is up. She is able to sew some and do houseworky things but much more slowly with lots of rest periods. She is having another new Gr Grandbaby come June so is planning another baby quilt, her 6th in about 2 years.

JANA - sorry about the cooking woes. I think we all probably go through spells like that. I know I sure do! and it usually happens when we are having a spate of company! Did you ever get your CR all together?

CAROL - glad your eye appt went so well. Let's hope the carotid scan does, too. I had a cardiac artery scan last Sept that also showed good results. The reason - my cholesterol was ~230 for 3 yrs in a row.

TINA - lots of activity going on at your house these days! A good place to steer clear of! I hope the dust settles soon. Oh wait! Bite my tongue. There's no dust there now!!

BECCA - it always feels so good to have cleaned out drawers, and cupboards, doesn't it. I will be late to the January Urge to Purge Party by the time we get home.

VELDA - raffling a quilt for a charitable cause makes some think is gambling? lol! I think not! We Catholics love our Bingo and some people frown on that, too.

Our supper tonite will be hamburgers on the grill tonite. Salad and maybe a few chips, too. I have two burger buns left that we need to use before they go to that great breadbox in the sky.

How's your supper story going to read?

Good Morning!
I am waiting for oven to preheat. Then cooking our holiday meal for DH and me today; turkey breast, mashed potatoes, gravy, tossed salad and vegetable. Big meal at noon, turkey sandwich for supper.
Boy, the house will smell so good in a couple of hours.
Sewing on mission quilts later. Winter ❄️🥶 storm watch with ice, etc. Good day to stay home with the oven on!!
Have a great day!
HUGS, 💕 Vel

Good morning!
Mary, wow sounds like your home town doesn't watch the news/ weather to be a little better prepared, they don't here either. We were just discussing how our own kids don't watch the news and don't have a clue what's going on, but they have opinions about everything 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️ which led Frankie on a rant about our stupid governor, they announced last night on the news that she wants to lower the voting age to 16 and she's trying to get it passed! OMG I can't imagine any 16 year old having the knowledge to make an informed decision on anything to do with government. I can see it, tell them you'll give them a cell phone for their vote and they'd do it! 🤦‍♀️ eesh!
You'll be all ready to wash that fabric at home and finish up Starry Night! It's really coming along! Those villages look cool to me, reminds me of a Cary Grant movie..... To Catch a Thief! I loooove his movies, always have! He's always been a major heart throb to me ❤ I even have the Time magazine tribute they did when he died. Such a handsome man.
Jana, is it baking things that are turning out wrong or everything you cook? I was wondering if your oven is messed up it's why I ask.
Carol, I hope your scan shows only good things.
Becca, I'm taking a little break from purging but I'm sure I'll be back at it soon, it feels good to get rid of old stuff not needed anymore.
Last night I took Dad supper and sat the covered plate on his handrail of his porch. He stood inside at the door watching me till I was outside the yard again then opened his door for his food. Frankie said he needs a little door so I can shove the food through LOL. He still sounds terrible, I call him several times a day. He's also dealing with the exhausted tiredness. I'm pretty sure he's not wiping his house down, he's not much on cleaning good anymore. I told him to just sit in a chair and work on just 1 thing a day. He keeps his kitchen pretty clean and dishes up but the dusting and vacuuming can be far apart. One day when he's not home I'm going to go deep clean, I'll take Holly and Jazmyne with me so we can get it done. But it will be long after any covid could still be alive over there.
Tonight's supper will be leftover steak and a salad.
Well I better scoot and get ready to go.
Tina

Good morning!

Quiet around here. Heading down to my Batt Cave in a few minutes. Michael is on the hunt. He can't find the little pill case from yesterday to double check he took them all. He is usually very meticulous about that, but he still has a tendency from the covid brain fog to forget little things. That's why I won't let him drive yet. So far, he's not giving me grief over that.

He and Daniel are on the phone together. Daniel is at a model railroad convention and there are lots of vendors. Daniel is very good at finding what Michael needs. Like Michael needs more! Well, it's like our need for fabric, so I don't complain, just tease!

Dinner - it's not my stove or oven - they work fine and the oven keeps temp right on the mark. It's the operator! I will see what's hiding in Fred and Ethel. Those are the names of my freezers in the Batt Cave. I have some leftover rice that could become fried rice and I have potstickers from Trader Joe's. We'll see if I can mess that up.

My little booties for my dining room chairs arrived and they seem to work very well. They slide easily on the floor and went on easily too. And they are staying on as well. Those stupid felt pads never stay stuck for me. These little booties are a clear silicone cup that fits around the leg with felt embedded on the bottom.

Well, time to scoot,
Hugs,
Jana

Mary, I read that you did an early morning grocery run, so that's what I did today before it got crazy.

Tina, Hope you dad feels better soon.

Jana, what are booties for the chairs?

Becca, hot chocolate sounds yummy. I haven't had any in years.

I've been busy with running around on errands and making soup. I took a couple quarts to my dad and brother for dinner.

We'll be having chicken noodle soup with corn bread. The corn bread is in the oven now.

Have a lovely evening.

We had Ham and Bean Soup with a side of Corn bread.

Today was Southern California Council of Quilt Guilds in the morning. Lori we talked about your outdoor quilt show. No one from your Guild was present, but someone who attended said it was really good. The meeting was about fundraising. It was a good meeting. I talked about last year’s virtual quilt show.

This afternoon I had a Zoom Sew-in. I am down to my last couple blocks of quilting then the order.

Maryz - We don’t have snow storms but the stores are packed. I think it is Covid buying. I know more people who have family members sick, exposed, or sick themselves right now than ever.

Jana - Glad you haven’t totally given up. Little booties hopefully will stay on. I have the same problem with felt pads.

Vel - Dinner sounds good.

Tina - I like Cary Grant too.

Becca - After a very cloudy yesterday we saw the sun today too. It was nice.
