SUPPER CLUB - Friday, Dec 27

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri Dec 27, 2019 6:52 am

Good morning,

Well, our RV shelter arrived and they crew worked until 8pm last night in 38* weather. They barely stopped long enough to eat the blueberry scones I made them. They brought their dinner - tortilla wraps of some kind - and I heated them while Bill brought them inside to eat by the fire and to warm up. They will be back this morning to finish the job. When they finish with us they will move on to the next customer who is also in our area, they say. They have two more shelter kits on their trailer which they left in our yard for the night. The company is located 1-1/2 hours south of us so they had a long drive home last night and then back again this morning. Vicky had her window covering down all day long, though we never saw her watching. I'm sure she was, though! It was interesting! In sewing news, I got all my Scrappy Star blocks together. Today I will add two narrow inner borders and start the piano key outer border. I think I'm going to back this quilt with flannel. Will be more cozy and less slippy.

JANA - CONGRATULATIONS!!! What an inspiration you are!! And your reward is your favorite jacket! And, if you play your cards right (and we know you will) a new bedroom set! lucky Gracie! When I was her age, and much bigger, I LOVED color books! I spent hours with my crayons and dreamed of one day being rich enough so I could have a box of 48! lol!

LORI - yes, I think that Country Charmer will be a great pattern for your son - in blue and gray. Mine is going to be Christmas colors. And I'm going to make it king size and use flannel or perhaps nothing in place of batting so it will fit into my washing machine. Just want it for a coverlet to spark up our bedroom at Christmastime. I made us a king quilt a few years ago and it's just too heavy and I have to take it to a big washer in a laundromat to wash it. And with pets, I have to wash it.

BECKY - I think we'll leave our tree up through New Year's, too. It's too pretty to take down just yet. I can't recall the name of the company that made the Country Charmer pattern. It's probably sitting up in our mail box at the UPS store now as I think it was shipped last Monday. Just been too busy to go get it. But I'll check it out and get back to you on that.

BECCA - today is your big family day. Enjoy! How is CA holding up through the holidays? Guess you'll know after today. For the record, I LOVE pumpkin pie but I always add double the spices. I love those spices!

CHICKIE - glad you had such a nice family gathering. I know you work hard to make everything just right for every person. Bummer about your phone, though! Good thing you had that insurance! The trunks were such a nice gift. Where does he find all those old trunks? I have an old trunk my mom bought me for my hope chest. It's made of stained plywood. She got it at her friend's garage sale and it has "Phil Johnson" scrawled on one end in grease pencil. lol! It's a mess and I love it!

We finally had our Christmas ham last night and it was so good. I wanted to top it with pineapple and cloves, but realized the only fruity thing I had was whole berry cranberry sauce, so I used that instead with cloves. Very good! The juices made a great sauce. But tonite we're meeting friends at 4:30 for Mexican. To be honest, we'd rather stay home in our jammies and eat leftovers, but don't want to hurt the friends' feelings. But it will be an early night. No one we hang out with does late nights anymore! lol!

Have you got a supper plan yet?

Good morning!

The fog has lifted a bit higher and I can at least see my barn now. Matt called as they were leaving for Disneyland. They may get hung up at the border of California because of a snow storm. The pass is currently closed, but they are hopeful.

Mary - I would do the same for the crews that worked for me. Cookies, cold water, or what was needed. They were always appreciative. Bill will have to practice backing in to the shelter, under your careful watch.

Dinner - still in the unkown recipe file, but there is plenty to fix.

We may venture out to the cell phone store to pick out Michael's new phone. He may wait until Matt is home, as Matt has one like Michael is thinking about.

Not much else here, will head to the Batt Cave. Somehow in all my sewing, my quarter inch foot is missing. Need to find it ASAP! I am usually very good about putting it in the same place, in its case, every time I change feet. But, I had company in the Batt Cave I was sewing for, Sarah, so may not have been consistant as I usually am.

Enjoy!
Jana

Good morning! We were 34 degrees this morning. Supposedly we are to make it to the low 50s, but it’s a stretch. It’s a gloomy day—cloudy and chilly.

The good news is that my new phone is on the FEDEX truck to be delivered today. It is hard to believe it was shipped yesterday from Pennsylvania and will arrive out here in the middle of nowhere today! If it arrives early enough, I’ll be going back to town to get it activated.

Mary—you are so nice to your workers! I served up iced tea and cookies when we were building in August to the different workers. They were always appreciative, as I know yours are. I’m looking forward to seeing your quilts! I have to clean up my sewing room, and then I can work on SIL’s quilt and also baby quilt for #2 great grand. I gave SIL her quilt top at Christmas, and she seemed to like it real well. Whew!!! I’m sure the cranberries were even better with the ham than pineapple!

Jana—congratulations to you!!! I love it when I find something that fits after I’ve saved it for ages. Now, I need to get back on my program and get rid of what I gained this past year so I can get back in my clothes! It’s hard to lose and harder to keep off. I have ruined metabolism.

Becca—enjoy your dinner today! Hope CA holds up through it all!

DH finds his old trunks mainly on the buy-sell-trade on Facebook. I think the farthest he has gone to pick one up is about 80 miles. They are usually within 50 miles although some are a little closer. These have been fun projects for him, and each is so interesting. He gave these to all the married kids and grands, but he’s looking for a few more for the unmarried. I doubt they have hope chests now, but I had one in a dresser drawer.

Dinner tonight—we have leftovers, of course, but I’m going to repurpose some meatballs in spaghetti sauce and add Mexican spices and some cheese and stuff them in poblano peppers and put them in the crockpot.

Bon appétit!

Good afternoon from a dreary but kind of warm, SW. Pa....

Mary, happy to hear you RV is now under cover and protected for the winter...I think those workers would be so thankful for your goodies, I know I would....I often think of Vicki, what a life! Also hope and pray I never get to that point....

Becca, I can imagine how much excitement and joy you had at your house...Family, that's what it's all about....

Jana, oh my, you really do win the prize...What a great feeling it must have been to find the jacket fit, good for you.....And whatever it takes, hope you get your new bedroom outfit, not just the dresser...

Chickie, sounds like you've been busy as well....Hope that UPS fellow finds you, out there in the middle of no where, lol....

But, really do want to wish you all a belated, very Merry Christmas.....Really have been thinking of you all but haven't been able to check in.....Let's just say, the last couple of weeks have been between a dream and a nightmare.....The dream part was having most of the kids around but the nightmare part was mostly me, lol....The little cold developed into much worse with a stay in the hospital and feeling like a dish rag that should have been thrown away a long time ago.....Good news, my stress test showed things to be pretty much the same, no surgery yet.....

But, having Kathy and Tim home was a blessing, she took over and Christmas was great...I'm very, very blessed with my family....They might be a bunch of goof balls at times but they're all mine!

Today is really a nothing day...I was going to tag along with my sister while she took my nephew to have his staples removed but I didn't think I could be that long so they'll probably stop down when he's done....There is nothing on my "to do" list except sitting in my recliner with a book and a cat......

Not sure what might be on the table tonight....Kathy made sure I wouldn't starve so it's just up to me to decide.....

You all have a great day..............

Happy eating................

Eagle Update......The eaglet in the N. Ft. Myers nest might be an only child...The 2nd egg hasn't hatched and it's now over due, likely not to have been viable...But, the little "dickens" is really thriving and will probably be spoiled terribly by his/her parents......
