We are here at my brothers. Arrived in North Pole on Thursday and we will be here until next Friday. my sister flies in Monday from Colorado for three days. She will leave Thursday. I am loving being with my brother but my sister-in-law‘s Alzheimer’s is bad enough that she should be In a facilty. But there is absolutely nothing available. We have some interesting conversations.
Years ago I made Gene some pillowcases. I think he liked them. He took me upstairs and showed them to me and said “Can this be fixed?” He had worn them so thin there were holes I could put my head through. I said no, don’t think we can fix them, but we can make new ones. Then he showed me all throw that the kids had made for their mom. It’s like sheepskin on one side but short plush on the other- a single fabric, not layered like a quilt. and a collage of family photos on it. They ordered it from Shutterfly. It’s beautiful and has no binding but A finished edge. Gene wants a binding on it. He feels it’s not finished. He said Marge wouldn’t know One way or the other. So I went shopping and got Fabric. That’s what i will be doing today - pillowcases and binding - While Bill Washes the truck and trailer. By the way, I gave them The Alaskan quilt I made, The wall hanging, “Mushers Dream”, and the case of blackberry jam I made for them. They were so pleased with it all !
Weather here is low to mid 70s, partly cloudy. We may have a few occasional showers but basically it’s pretty good weather and should continue this way through the rest of our visit. The couple who stayed at our house for a few weeks in April/May are up here somewhere. In Fairbanks which is about 15 miles away. Not sure if we will have time to connect with them but when we leave here we do have reservations to camp with them a week from now.
I haven’t tried to keep up since our phones have been off for two weeks. But I’m certain everyone is behaving, and following life and supper club rules. Irish, thinking of you boy on his birthday. Hug that little Lena! Chickie, what a nice surprise you got in the mail! You can always find good uses for extra fabric ! Becca, what kind of party will you be having for CA? Surprise? Tina, have you dried out yet? I hope your new plants and seeds didn’t float away. Jana, I usually just buy a turkey breast But have accidentally gotten those rolled turkey roasts before. We don’t like them either. I cook them in the crockpot . Lori, how are the boys doing?
I am not sure about dinner tonight. It’s always an iffy thing here as Marge no longer can cook. ( she used to be a Field editor for taste of home cooking.). My brother really tries hard. The first night he had their dinner in the oven already and I made us macaroni and cheese. The REAL stuff. Last night I made chicken stroganoff and “invited“ my SIL and brother to share it with us. That was OK with her. She forgets she can’t cook and can get angry if other people try to make her supper. So it’s a delicate dance. Tonight is still a mystery. Tomorrow we are going into Fairbanks to my nieces house for a big Father’s Day brunch. Can you believe it-she thought she was going to serve her auntie a crab omelette! Both my brother and I blanched at that so she said that’s it! No crab for us! Hated to be “crabby“ about it but there is going to be French toast toO and regular eggs
I hope there are no
