SUPPER CLUB - Friday, March 15

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri Mar 15, 2019 4:27 am

Good morning!

Can you believe that March is already half over? The Ides of March. Let's hope for nothing but good things today!

Our party last night was nice. We had one surprise guest - a friend who was in the middle of a divorce brought a "plus one". (and she was SUCH a delight compared to his "minus one"!). But we did have to scramble and shift all the place settings a bit on the table to fit a tenth seat at our table that seats only eight! and try to do it without much disturbance to the party. Our dining and living room are one big room so there's no way to do it on the sly. But we had more than enough food and I think everyone enjoyed the gathering as everyone stayed for 5 hours! Now I have a kitchen to clean this morning.

JANA - I gave a few wistful thoughts last night for your new table for ten and your second dishwasher! I made a pie yesterday, too, not even realizing at the time that it was Pi day! Saturday is national Quilting Day. Did you know?

TINA - oh, THAT food! We always just thought of that as Southern Cooking, not necessarily "hill billy". LOL! Shows what we know. I love grits, but please hold the gizzards and lizards! Our DR table is just about as old as our marriage. Solid oak, 2 leaves to seat 8 easily (but 10 can be squeeze in!). I'm tired of it, but there doesn't seem to be a new one in our near future.

LORI - oh, it would be so nice to have a stand selling fresh anything here! but that will be another 3 months for us. But at least we do get things like most berries all year long now, just not field fresh.

IRISH - yes, I'm thinking with Lara on the east coast, our long-planned trip has a much better chance of becoming a reality. But not this year. Almost certainly next year, though, as I actually heard Bill telling someone last night that's his plan. Glad you're not sick and are just busy having fun! The way your describe those eagles, they are almost human - maybe more so than many people!

BECCA - Yes, I think it's time for the hematologist. Is Denise still going with you? Fresh donuts! Your DH is one well-kept man! lol!

Tonite we are having - drum roll please - leftover chili! We have plenty of both white an red chilies. I'll be freezing some of it.
I've never made white before and I REALLY liked it. Turned out that was a good decision because our surprise guest, Lorraine, doesn't do tomato based foods and I always have a lot of tomatoes in my red chili. We also have cornbread and pie so no starving here.

Have you got a plan yet or are you going to wing it come 5pm?

Hi Mary. Sounds like your dinner was a success.

I will probably make chili for dinner tonight. I cooked up some kidney beans the other day, so I just need to get the ground beef and I'll have all the ingredients.

I bought strawberries and green beans at the fruit stand yesterday. The strawberries are huge and delicious. Need to get ready to walk with Jack and Wrigley.

Have a terrific day. Lori

Good morning!

Mary - good thing you know how to squeeze! And white chili! Sarah's DH has problems with tomatoes, so she makes white chili often. A spring trip to DC and see the cherry blossoms would be a good time to go. And the best part would be Irish!

Lori - one of the few things I miss from California - farmer's markets! And strawberries in March!

Well, Ethan has been here and is off to school. He will be back after school. We made country fried chicken, milk gravy and potatoes for dinner last night and tonight will be tacos.

My Baltimore Album is not really a set pattern. It is Baltimore album patterns and I am choosing what blocks to put in it. So far I have choosen 9 blocks for the 12 x 12 blocks. I will make them, then choose the others for smaller 6 x 6 blocks for a border. It is play by ear as to how and what it will be.

No snow today. Yesterday's snow is gone and the temps are rising. Even seeing 60 degrees!

Heading to the Batt Cave to play.

Enjoy!
Jana
