SUPPER CLUB - Friday, March 1
Good morning,
MARCH!! It's finally here! And it's coming in like a lamb in the PNW. Sunshine and almost 50*! Yesterday was 47* and after a long morning in the sewing room we worked outside for a few hours and then in late afternoon we relaxed around our first outdoor fire of the season. Today will probably be more of the same. I have my last swap quilt-top half put together that I hope to finish today and also, I plan to make more quilting progress on 'Sue'. And a little more yard work. And maybe another fire. We are burning our file cabinet clean-out and have a little more to burn.
CHICKIE - I hope your taxes aren't too much of a shock to you. We're aren't done yet with ours. Still waiting for a few more statements to come in. Yes, re-think your FQ for Izzy. All I had to go on was what she said in her Secret Santa Hints page as to her fave fabrics. But her hubby says purple, so I'm sending purple. Actually, I have some purple Civil War. That should cover it. Is Mom still content?
BECCA - Yes, St. Michael the Archangel is supposed to have done battle with evil, aka, Lucifer, which ended up in Lucifer being banned to hell for eternity. Much like our law enforcement of today battling crime. So "Mike" is the patron saint of those who protect us from evil. My private little irony is that my first DH, who worked in law enforcement, was named Michael.
Yesterday's turkey became a cheesy turkey & rice casserole at Bill's choice. It was a little soupy at first, but 'set' after a while. But as you know, the problem with a casserole made from leftovers is that now we have even more leftovers!! lol! So that's tonite's plan - to lick that casserole dish clean!
I hope your supper tonite isn't 'used food'.

Good morning!
Cold and cloudy here. We warmed up the last few days into the 50's, but a new storm is approaching. It will rain on my house, but snow up in the mountains. I would like to see some blue sky! Tired of clouds!
Sarah will be here this morning. She is doing a wedding cake and I am roped into helping. I make beter frosting, so that seems to be my job. We are making a true buttercream. The type you make a syrup, beat egg whites stiff, them add butter - lots of butter! She will crumb coat and fill the tiers here. Then tomorrow put on the final layer of frosting. Very simple and a few gum paste magnolia flowers. The flowers were made and purchased, so she didn't have to make them. This bride is a real sweetie and we had wished that Stu would have chased after her. The two of them are very good friends, but that was it.
So hopefully after my kitchen is back in order, I can head down to the Batt Cave. My new quilt pattern arrived and I want to load it onto my computer. I have been studying the instructions already, even though I have no fabric for the quilt, yet! This will have a block or two that wil be learning blocks before I do ones that will go into the quilt.
Yesterday, they cut my phone and internet cables again! This happens at least once a month. Even though the ground is marked, they pay no attention as how they dig! Uggh! So I better get this posted, before they start today!
Dinner is unknown at this time, but we will not starve!
Enjoy,
Jana

Good morning! Quick in and out again. I need to get brunch fixed, then I'm going to town to sit with Mom while my sister and her DH run some errands and maybe get a dinner out. I hope to get an oil change on the way, but if I can't get in immediately, I'll have to wait.
Jana--I've never made buttercream that way. It sounds divine! Maybe I'll try it next time I have a special cake. I'm doing a cookie for DGS tomorrow, but it will be regular frosting and just decorating.
Tina--hope Jaz is better today!
Dinner here tonight... I made some vegetable soup, and we have banana bread.
Have a great day!

Love this buttercream frosting recipe! My house doesn't smell of sticky powdered sugar. And it tastes yummy too! Only has 1 1/4 cups of sugar for about 4 cups of frosting. Butter, that is another question - 3 1/2 cubes per batch. We have made 7 batches for this 5 tiered wedding cake. About 30 cups of frosting. It may take another, but we will do it tomorrow. Oh yes, we are cheating the big bottom tier. Instead of a cake layer, we are making that bottom tier out rice krispy treats, frosting them to look just like a regular tier. The little kids love this tier when they find out it is rice krispy treats.
If you want I can share it with you.
Enjoy,
Jana
All while cooking this frosting, we cooked pizzas for dinner.
