SUPPER CLUB - Saturday, Feb 9th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sat Feb 09, 2019 4:22 am

Good morning!

We got snow! And it started within 5 minutes of when they predicted it would. Probably about 4-5" now but more is expected and I think it's coming down in very fine flakes right now. It's beautiful! But it too much weight for our RV shelter tarp so we need to take care of that today.

Foxy went out this morning and turned to give us a look that said, "What the heck?!?" as if we did it. lol! Scottie seems confused, too. They've both seen snow but not much of it.

BECCA - I'm excited about your joint birthday party! Relax and enjoy all the love your family always shows you. You are very lucky! Your DGS probably has a foot, maybe more of snow. He's in "the zone". Happy Heavenly birthday to your dad! My dad's 107th was Jan 10, same day as Autumn's.

TINA - you are too cold to not have snow! We had the same cat issue here - a bowl that was in danger of its bottom showing! And his bowl is big enough to feed him for two weeks! Cats!

CHICKIE - I know you've been dealing with an ice storm and greedy birds. I put a lot of seed out but only have seen one brave bird. Now the feeder is covered in snow!

JANA - you have a LOT of snow! But then you live at what? 3,000' elevation? We are sea level. Snow flummoxes us! lol! OT will be nice for Aaron come payday. But today - maybe not so much.

I put a stew into the crockpot early this morning. If we lose power - and that's a good possibility, I can finish cooking it on top of our wood stove. dumplings would be nice, too . . .

Stay warm!

Good morning!

Mary - we are at 5180 feet elevation. Just a tad short of a mile high. Sarah just up the road, about a mile west is 50 feet higher than us. Michael loved Bill's foot of snow, he agreed he was right. Snow loads are problems and hope it doesn't crush the shelter.

We live on what is called here in the valley as the "bench" - the valley floor was the bottom of the ancient Lake Bonneville, that covered much of the western United States. The natural dam of the lake broke several times, creating different levels the water stayed at. Those levels are now our benches and my bench is the Provo level. Also as this dam failed catastrophelly, the water carved parts of the Snake River and Columbia River gorges. What is left of that lake, is the Great Salt Lake, that has no outlet, causing it to be so salty. A short history of the great basin area where I live.

Now onto dinner, no idea, but maybe chili or tacos, both sound good, even though no breakfast has been eaten here yet.

A few errands to run this morning and then home to watch the snow fall.

Awhile ago I had mentioned that Kate's dad had been diagnosed with a terminal brain cancer. Well, the chemo and radiation slowed it down, but now is no longer working and he is losing the battle fast. We are hoping that he will be here, able to be at a daughter's wedding on March 29th. A few prayers are appreciated. Thanks.

Enjoy,
Jana

Good afternoon! We are still icy here. The temperature hasn’t been above freezing since the storm Wednesday night although there was a little sun yesterday that caused some radiation melting. It froze again last night, and there hasn’t been any sun today. We are expecting more freezing rain tonight after midnight. I’m so tired of this… wake me when it gets warm… I want to just sleep it off—hibernate like an old bear.

With DH’s assistance yesterday morning, I was able to get my truck thawed out enough to drive over to visit my DD all afternoon. DH had to use his crowbar on my door so we could get in and start the truck, let it warm up and start the ice melting on the windshield and windows, so we could get them scraped off to be legal to drive (not to mention able to see). DD and I had Thai food at the Thaiphoon. It was delicious! Then we went shopping—our favorite stores: the Salvation Army and the Doggie Bag (Humane Society thrift store). At the SA, I found some like-new Ralph Lauren jeans and a Michael Kors sweater with the tags still on it. I paid $2.99 for the sweater!!! We went to Aldi’s where I got some chicken cordon bleu and a couple of other items. I will be bringing my shopping bags and a list next time, for sure! I wish we had one in our town. If it wasn’t a 100-mile round-trip, I’d do my weekly shopping there. Time passed way too quickly, and it was time to come home. I stopped and got fried chicken for DH and for Mom. I stopped and dropped off a dinner for Mom. She was ready! It was delicious; I had some of DH’s chicken in addition to my left-over Pad Thai.

Our dirt roads out here are still ice covered, super slick and treacherous. But, I still went to town and met my friend for coffee and then had lunch with Mom. I took her my BLOCK magazine and a couple of other publications. She will have some reading materials for a day or two.

Mary—you have way more snow than we’ve seen at one time in several years! We’ve had several snow days this year, but they’ve only had an inch or two accumulation.

Jana—I was just reading about Lake Bonneville. The “benches” were interesting as you described them. I’ve always known about the Bonneville salt flats where they race cars and set speed records. Kansas was once covered with a great inland sea, and we have lots of limestone rocks full of fossils. So sorry about Kate’s dad. If it’s a glioblastoma, that is such a fast cancer. John McCain’s was not the typical length of survival.

I had salsaLITA chicken salad for lunch (taco salad without the taco bowl), so I’ll probably have soup for dinner and some of DH’s fried chicken. He will have fried chicken. We also have cottage cheese, salad, and veggies. No one will starve!

I’m heading off to my sewing room to begin quilting freehand. I got all the straight line quilting on the runners and placemats completed. I made a practice piece, and I’m pretty pleased… wish me luck!

Stay warm, stay safe, and bon appétit!

Maryz DGS sent us pictures & avideo.Didnt look like he had much snow. The kids were enjoying it.Do hope the tarp doesn’t hurt anything.

Chickie So Happy you had a great visit with DD & Mom & Friend. And found bargains in the deal too.

Jana Thanks for your geography lesson.Never Knew you were at such a high elevation. No wonder you have so much snow.

We got home late & CA was so weak from the trip He ate a quick meal of noodles, beef & broccoli.I ate a banned salad. Becca
