SUPPER CLUB - thursday, Jan 3
Good morning!
Boy! Have we got rain!! It poured all day yesterday and now this morning, more rain with and hail, wind, lightening and thunder tossed into the mix. And temps never out of the 30's. Our friends delayed their departure by two days because of the weather. The campsite across from us is empty and has lots of huge puddles. A herd of 11 deer were there yesterday and cavorting around, splashing, and jumping and playing in those puddles for about 15 minutes until, one by one, they crossed the road and went down to the lake. A better show than TV for sure! I've never seen such a sight!
Today is my sewing class. Wish me luck! If I prove to be a good teacher and my student catches on she should be able to go home with a finished pair of jammie pants . . . I finished my Vintage Christmas blocks yesterday (Walmart had the rick rack so I didn't have to drive across town!) and then I cut out 60 2-1/2" cornerstones before I packed the blocks away. Now I'm down to only 2 projects - Farm Girl Vintage and my scrap blocks. I still have a shoebox full of my 7" narrow strips but I have, so far, 102 6" blocks finished from those strips. I could start playing with them for ideas. I might place them on point with every other one pointing the strips in opposite directions and sash them in black. Or . . . .I'm accepting ideas.
TINA - What a bummer that your last few days of vacation are being spent under a heating pad! Have you tried ice for 15 min at a time? I hate the thought of ice and always go for the heat, but I did try it once on an injury and it really did work. It's just that it's ICE. Shiver!! Hope today is better. let's talk turtle - you said your pond was frozen. What happens to your turtles then?
VELDA - glad you're feeling better. Even a light cold zaps your energy! We like those instant mashed potatoes. They are great in the trailer, especially on travel days.
BECCA - I hope you can get CA's bloodwork done soon if you didn't yesterday. How was your orthopedic appt? And yes, this is cold for Texas but then they do have a winter here and it's usually in Jan. The rain and cold are nothing new to me, being from PNW, but the AMOUNT of rain and the fact that we came south to avoid all this (well, that's why DH comes. I come for Autumn.) and home is having better weather sure makes us wish we weren't committed here for another week.
CHICKIE - Your weather is also interesting! Lots of bundling up! Was the 'sick' all your family had colds or that stomach flu that is going around? Or regular respiratory flu? I can take a lot of things, but not nausea. Ugh!! A day spent with a good book is never wasted!! A day spent with a good book and a cat on your lap - even better!!
JANA - in a way it was almost romantic how Kate and Aaron met at the accident scene. But no lunch... So sorry about your LQS closing. Mine in GH was going to close, too, but there was such an outcry that she stayed open, but cut her hours to four days a week. I don't know how long that will last, but for now, we have a quilt shop. People were so happy that she didn't close that no one has complained about 3-day closure every week!
IRISH - I'm reading of all the purging y'all are doing and I'm missing it! This is when I usually do the same thing! Last year I finally got rid of one of my 2 dozen tablecloths. (the one with the big stain). I was proud of myself. What embroidery project are you working on? Or should I say, is sitting next to your chair? I have my state birds sitting by mine, but I only work on them now and then.
Supper tonite - pasta of some sort. It might be macaroni and cheese or it might be chicken alfredo, or pesto. We'll see what sounds good when get to cooking after being gone all day.
What's for your supper?
P.S. Bill just put in his vote for Mac & cheese. In case you need to know.

Re: SUPPER CLUB - thursday, Jan 3
Good morning! It’s sunny!!! Oh, happy day! But… always a “but”… it may not stay that way. “Hourly” weather said chances of “wintry mix” at 1:00. I’ll have to get busy and go walk Ava before THAT!!! Yesterday my neighbor and I walked almost 3 miles. It was COLD, but I had to take care of Choc, so we went. She was wearing a wind suit, and I had on flannel-lined jeans. She has two dogs, and I have the three Hooligans; off we went! It’s nice to have a neighbor to prod me into walking when I’d rather be inside! Of course, I went back to my book. Happy to say I finished last night. It was soooo good!!!
I have more books on my Kindle and that my DDIL gave me, but I really must abstain until I work in my sewing room. I’ve been this way since I was a kid with books—the world ceases to exist when I have a good book. I used to prop them up above the sink when I had to wash dishes. I’d use my music stand and read while I was ironing clothes when Mom was working. Oh, the scorched whites I made!!!
Irish—FYI: I made a mistake on the title yesterday… “The Woman in Cabin 10” by Ruth Ware. I think you would like it! Get a bag of chips to have handy so you don’t chew your fingernails!!! LOL! I love books that I can’t put down! Yes, those cardinals are little fatties! Or, maybe it’s because they are all fluffed out in the cold wind. It’s funny to see them all lined up in the little trees by the pond as they wait for me to come out and feed them. We got two 40# sacks of seed yesterday at the feed store.
Mary—your rain may be passing “below” us… I sure hope so! When I checked out the “wintry mix”, there was dark green in the “future” radar. Hopefully the weatherman is correct and we miss the rain and {if we are fortunate} the wintry mix. I definitely do not envy you for your weather! What a fun wildlife show you had!!! Good luck with the sewing lesson! I hope she is a quick learner and loves sewing! I’m in awe of all you accomplish with your projects! I haven’t opened my book seriously yet, and I have so much to do before I can. I MUST work on the corduroy quilt for my cousin. There’s still prep work before I can start repairing, then layering and tying it. Everyone had the stomach flu—aches, fever, poop and puke—It comes with a death wish. I had dogs helping me read! Boomer demanded that I rub his head and neck when I was reading. He even gave me occasional kisses.
Tina—sorry you didn’t feel up to making the baby quilt. I hate wasting vacation time being sick! I agree with Mary about the ice. And, you can always alternate.
Velda—glad you are on the upside of your colds/flu! I like to keep instant potatoes on hand to thicken soups—potato and others.
Becca—hope you are staying warm! Did you get out yesterday?
Jana—Kate and Aaron’s encounter at the accident was “made for TV”. Oh, so sad that your quilt shop is closing. The little one I go to has reduced days to Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I see writing on the wall… I hope they can make it with those hours.
Last evening, DH wanted red beans and rice, so I cooked some broccoli to go with it. We may have enough for leftovers. Or… I might have to open the freezer…
DH arrived for brunch, so… Bon appétit!

Hi, MaryZ, I think of you and others south for the winter everytime I hear the weather reports. South doesn't sound very warm or nice this yr. My sister was in Houston last week to see two of her sons and families and said it was cold. They hit a lot of storms going across on HWY 10 and drove in pouring rain most of the way going down.
Then she went back to New Mex and had 3" of snow on the ground. But that 3" was also on their glass enclosed pool area. So much snow, no sunlight getting thru, and many of her plants that she winters over in there froze. They were worried about the roof caving in from the weight of all that snow. They live south of ALBQ and usually storms miss them.Strange weather everywhere this yr.
Chickie…...That flu bug has hit our house. Rod had it really bad last wk and sure scared me a few times, so dizzy couldn't even get up to walk to bathroom. Thank heavens for plastic urinals for men. And typical "man flu" just sure he would die any minute.
Well he survived miraculously. LOL Unfortunately, he decided he had so much fun having the flu that he should share with me. Now I have it, but not as bad as he did, just feel yucky and achy and nauseated. I couldn't keep breakfast down 2 days in a row and he smiled and ask if I was pregnant. Right! At 72, no way.
His flu lasted about 4 days for the worst part of it. I am working on 3 days so end of tunnel in sight. Prayers for all the others all over the country battling this. I had a bad cold before it hit me so that sure isn't helping any.
Rod went to VA yesterday and they are putting him in a 1 1/2 month group with biofeedback, learning to deal with pain, etc. It is led by a pain mgmt. psychologist. Spouses are welcome to attend so this should be interesting and might help me too. Maybe I just "think" I have the flu.
His neuropathy in his feet gets worse all the time. Thank you everyone for your prayers and kind thoughts and words for him and me too.
Happy New Year a little late. Praying everyone has a happy, healthy year ahead filled with fun memories hugs and love, Shirley Mae
PS.....Meals are iffy around here with sick folks so mostly whatever we can find when we get hungry. Eating lots of soup these days.

Good morning!
Cold here, we may make 20 as our high for today.
Let's see what's happening here in the frozen tundra. Stu got a job, then got his car broken into last night, I got a skinnie made and another pair of pants to hem for our friend. Oh, our weekly class starts again tonight. Same stuff, different day.
I pulled out several of my Skinnies patterns with winter themes/Valentines day and finished a easy one yesterday and have part of a Valentine one started. I will need to order several wire hangars for them. I find it easier for each to have their own hangar.
Dinner is our Thursday out - our weekly class is starting back up again.
Well, need to scoot,
Enjoy,
Jana

Hi everyone!
I'm doing better today thank you all
Mary, I tried the ice, it made me worse and stiff. The turtles hibernate at the bottom of the pond in the yucky stuff, they do surface from time to time when there's sun and no wind and the temp is at least 50 I believe. I try to get some food to them when I see them.
We had freezing fog this morning! It was so weird, it froze to everything! It looked like a winter wonderland everywhere!
My phone is almost dead, I'll talk to you all later, take care.
Tina
