Supper club - wed, Nov 21

Post by purrfect-lady » Wed Nov 21, 2018 12:42 am

Good morning!

I guess I never made it here yesterday. We left the trailer at 6:45. Bill wanted to get to get To the rec center early so we could walk the track. I walked about 1/2 mile with him, but I wasn’t wearing good shoes. After all, i was dressed for a stretch class, not a hike! So we stood around and waited 20 minutes for class to start. It wasn’t super awful. Just ordinary awful. But I will keep going because it probably didn’t hurt me. And we go again this morning.

Checkie, thanks for setting the table. I can’t believe Natasha is 16. I think she was only five years old when I joined this forum and you joined right behind me. Time passes so quickly. She’ll be getting her drivers license soon!

Pam, that bean dish sounds interesting. I am going to have to try that. Enjoy your Thanksgiving.

Irish - we have another egg! That is so cool! I wonder if she’s done or if there will be a third. I do hope you get to visit the nest when you are down there. And I won’t eat venison either. I have eaten it. I’ve also eaten elk, moose, rabbit, and Buffalo. But for some reason to me it’s just not right eating wild animals. I’m not sure why eating cows is different in my mind. And don’t get me started on lamb or veal. Maybe I was born to be vegetarian

Becca, I woke up thinking of you and your DH. Hoping you will be able to make the trip to the family Thanksgiving.

Jana, I am so relieved your Daniel is back home again. Such a devastating fire. where would we be without the brave men and women like him. I haven’t gotten a lot of news about it here, and to be honest, we don’t get much news on our TV so I don’t know the latest status on the fire. Not sure i want to know.

I need to get organized about Thanksgiving because we are taking most of the food as Autumn works so many hours. Going to be a simple dinner. The turkey is at her house already and she’s in charge of cooking that. I’m taking mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, fruit salad, rolls, and pumpkin pie.

Are you all ready?

Good Morning MaryZ and all who follow.....Got up early to help Rod get a 20# turkey ready to pop into smoker. Fixing it today in smoker since takes around 10 hrs. Then can carve it up, put some in freezer and bag up what we are taking to our son's house for TG-Day. Not hauling a 20# turkey over there and leave it set out for hours. That little bugger is heavy.

I will get up in morning and put together a " Yummy Sweet Potato Casserole". Found the recipe a few yrs ago and been ask to make it ever since. Has an awesome topping with chopped pecans, brown sugar, flour, and butter in it. Makes a crumbly topping that bakes up beautifully. My DIL doesn't care for reg sweet potatoes much but loves this one. Says it is more like dessert. LOL No Marshmallows involved either just good food.

Life is crazy as usual around here. Rod has good days and bad so enjoy the good and try to understand and get thru the bad ones. His aches and pains move around so drs are baffled as to cause of most of them other than arthritis, osteoporosis, bad back, neuropathy in feet from diabetes,oh and diabetes numbers going up and down like crazy. I know the weather causes a lot of it but can't convince him of that.

We are trying to get things cleaned up around her for our DD3 and DGS to visit in mid Dec for 5 days. Haven't seen them since we left AZ 5 yrs ago. The DGS is now 11 so won't be the same kid we left behind. He is so excited and keeps calling to see if we are ready yet for them to come. Gave us a list of food he likes and wants to help us fix. Silly kid. Guess his memories include cooking with us in AZ. He is as big as I am now so should be a fun time.

Hope everyone has a nice thanksgiving day. I read when I can just don't post often anymore. Taking care of Rod from day to day and trying to help elderly neighbors takes up a lot of my time. Need to do laundry today and make a few cards again for some sick folks in our complex.

God bless you all today and especially tomorrow, gathering with friends and family or spending a quiet moment at home. I have lots of turkey if you want to come on over, will probably share some with neighbors.

Prayers for Flo, Debbie, & Maryrose and so many others too as they face med procedures. Prayers too for those facing the holidays with recent loss of family members this past yr. It is so hard. thinking especially of Izzy and her mom and Tina too.

Rod is back from store. Ran up to get an aluminum pan to put into smoker and hopefully catch some of the drippings. Gotta scoot.

Happy Thanksgiving all, a little early. Will be gone tomorrow for most of day or busy getting ready to go. So Gobble Gobble, hugs and love across the miles. Shirley Mae

PS.. Prayers for safe travels for all on the road this weekend. Will be nice here TG-Day but rain fri and snow on sun. Winter has arrived sort of in MO.

Good morning!
I'm new here but not new to sewing and quilting. I am recently retired from my nursing career which means more time for quilting! I'm currently working on Christmas quilts for my grandsons. My husband and I live in the beautiful high desert in Oregon with our two spoiled pomeranians and maine coon cat. Nice to meet you all. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!

Good morning!!! Today I’m making noodles for dinner tomorrow. I have two bags of premium romaine salad for the green salad, and now I can’t use them!!! Grrrrr!!! Better safe than sorry, but what an inconvenience to get back to town to the store. I’m thinking I’ll get broccoli and make a broccoli salad. I’m also doing an applesauce/cranberry sauce jellied dish like the kids’ grandma used to make.

Jana—there was a Kirklands at the Joplin mall when I lived there. They had some really pretty things. I’ve never been in Home Goods since I seldom get over there to shop. Enjoy!!! I’m sure Ethan did super walking home. It’s sad that we now have to worry about our little ones walking in our own neighborhoods. It was so much fun to walk home shuffling our feet in the leaves in the fall!

Irish—congratulations to Harriet! Another bun in the oven… er, nest! That’s so neat you may be able to visit the nest! Hope you found dinner without a broken toe as it fell from the freezer!

Pam—those beans sound super! I enjoy hearing about your healthy meals!

Shirley Mae—I remember that sweet potato casserole! It’s like dessert. A lady brought it to a church dinner, and it was a hit. That’s a lot of turkey! Nice of you to share with your neighbors who may not cook like that! Sounds like you are busy!

Mary-SewfastRN—MaryZ is also a retired RN! Welcome to you!!! I think I got more sewing and quilting accomplished before I retired and moved to the farm. Sounds like you are having SEW much fun and you live in a lovely area. Do keep coming to the dinner table—we are a fun bunch here!

MaryZ—You are indeed making a bunch of food for your simple dinner! Sorry your walking didn’t work out so well yesterday. Good to hear your stretch class wasn’t terribly awful! I did my yoga practice this morning for 50 minutes. I can easily be a vegetarian and eat a lot of meatless meals. Unfortunately, I’m married to a carnivore. Actually, we are well suited. When we eat out, he eats the meat, and I eat the veggies. I won’t eat my own cows, calves or chickens!!! Tasha loved her cookie! Yes, she has been taking driving lessons and has a restricted license, I think. In Kansas she can’t get an unrestricted license until she is 17.

Dinner tonight… DH has fried chicken I brought back last evening. I will have soup or salad.

Bon appétit! Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Good afternoon from chilly, dreary SW. Pa...Am I beginning to sound like a broken record????Oh well, keeps me at home and off the streets......

Mary, I honestly think I could easily be a vegetarian, probably be a lot better for all of us, unless you're eating Romaine lettuce, lol....Glad your stretching isn't as bad as you had expected and that too probably would be good for all of us...
The new bun in the "oven" will probably be the last one this season...Harriet has a record of just 2 which is good when it comes to keeping them well fed and healthy...Our nest up here had 3 little ones a few years ago and those parents had their talons full...The 3rd one hatched was of course the smallest and had a heck of a time keeping up but boy was it a survivor, was so funny to watch it's antics and ended up being the 1st to fledge....As many times as I've been to Ft. Myers, I've never visited the nest but for sure, this time, I will...Might not be able to see anything unless I shimmy up the tree, which I have my doubts, have you seen those talons?????

Chickie, your household meals sounds a lot like our's when Jim was here...He was a meat and potato person and I could live on veggies...Of course he also loved his goodies....It is very hard to believe these kids are growing up, much, much too fast.....

A huge welcome to our "New" Mary and being another retired nurse, wonderful...But, you will see, you will be busier now than when you worked...But, it's a different kind of busy and boy am I loving it....You will find, this is the "bestest" forum, always room at the table for a new friend...AND we also love to hear about new projects and absolutely love pictures....So grab a mug and pull up a seat.....
We also like to hear what you're making for dinner, hoping it inspires some of us (mostly me) into cooking.....

Finishing up the windows today and then not sure what else...Talked to my sister and she's having hospitalization woes...She was under the impression, she would still have her late husbands insurance but got a letter and as of Dec., to keep it, it will cost her $400. a month...So, now she's on a mission or I should say, we are on a mission.....Always something to stir up the applecart....

AND as for my dinner, nothing fell out of the freezer yesterday so maybe I'll have better luck today...But, there is always that bowl of cereal and/or a bag of popcorn......

You all have a great day....

Hoping your Thanksgiving is full of love and all good things...We all do have so much to be thankful for.....

Happy eating.............

I did a little shopping on the way home. Got boneless skinless chicken breast for 95 cents a pound! Got three big packs in my freezer. I have to get doggy food. They checked the new bag over carefully. I saw a nice bag of old fashioned good licorice, and ate the who l e bag on the way home. I wonder how many WW points that was. I am not sure what's for dinner. Maybe a sweet potato and chicken and salad.

Good evening!

We ate dinner last night at Sarah's. Ethan made taco meat for Nachos and wanted us to share what he had cooked. He did a very good job!

Well dinner plans for tomorrow changed - I knew that they would. It seems as Sarah's in-laws did it again - won't come down for dinner - even early in the afternoon. They pull this stunt on Sarah all the time! So we are having dinner at her house - I will take pumpkin pie and my Green Stuff - a delish jello salad. Sarah went to a great deal of work to set a beautiful table and fix dinner. She has more done in her meal prep than me - so I will cook my turkey on Friday, so I have the bones for soup and noodles on Monday. Her in-laws have noidea of the trouble that they cause changing their minds.

So I will be baking in a few minutes and making green stuff.

Just looked up and through my window in the Batt Cave and the biggest full moon just rose over the mountains to the East - lighting up the snow on the tops of the mountains. We will be getting snow in the next few days, right here at my house - I am high enough in elevation for this set of storms to dump on me.

Enjoy,
Jana

HAPPY THANKSGIVING! May you enjoy the day with family and friends!
