SUPPER CLUB - Wednesday, Oct 17

Post by purrfect-lady » Wed Oct 17, 2018 3:04 am

Good morning!

It's going to be another beautiful day here! I think we broke 70* here yesterday and out on the coast (now that we're home from camping there!) it hit 80*! Strange October but I'll take it!

We were going to do Tacoma errands today (we make a list and go together and do them all at once since it's 15 miles into town plus an expensive toll over the Tacoma Narrows Bridge). However one errand is at Joann's but a big sale starts tomorrow, so I hope to prevail upon Bill to put off getting his tire fixed for one more day. This afternoon, we're going to go sit with a friend in the waiting room while his wife has shoulder replacement surgery. Happily, that hospital is only 3 miles from our house. I'm hoping to carve out a few hours to sew something, too. Anything! I'm "sew hungry"!

JANA - I'm not crazy about 'fancy' machines either, but like cars, even the most basic new models seem to be computerized. My new machine does 220 embroidery stitches, 4 different alphabets, and makes button holes and sews on buttons. Nothing else (that I've discovered). But you have to go into the computer menus to select everything. Confuses me. Those bunkhouse RV's are really nice for families. And yes, we've stayed at Walmarts occasionally (though not really our destination campgrounds! lol!). But since it's Thanksgiving, we'd be leaving our trailer - and CAT!! - unattended while we spend the day at Autumn's 50 miles away and hate to do that. We did find an RV park 3 miles away so we'll move for 3 nights.

CHICKIE - you are such a good wife, warming up Doyal's vehicle for him! I'm sure he noticed, but if he's like mine, he didn't say anything about it. Your mints are gorgeous and I'd be happy to post a photo for you! But I can only post pictures from my phone, so it will be in another post. Bill did find us a home in another RV park for 3 nights over Thanksgiving, so no Thanksgiving in Walmart parking lot! A lot of WM's are banning overnight Rv parking now so that's not always an option. We did stay in a Target parking lot once (with their permission) in Buffalo NY.

BECCA - what kind of painting does your DH do? Pictures? Tole? House? Glad he'll be outfitted now for whatever event comes along.

HELEN - I would say with all your other health problems, you definitely need the protection of the flu shot! Remember, it doesn't take full effect for 2 weeks so if you were to get the flu right after the shot, it's cooincidental. The shot can't make you sick these days like they could 30 years ago. Other shots to consider if you haven't had them is the new shingles vaccine even if you've had the old one. The new one is much more effective, though it's also expensive. and pneumonia shots. These immunizations save lives. OK, I'm down off my nursey soapbox now.

IRISH - did your carpet arrive yet? I was thinking yesterday was carpet day. If so, you are probably busy putting your house back together. Or maybe you and your sis went on a leaf-peeping trip! Or maybe a baby-peeping trip?

PAM - how are you doing? and your DB? Did your uncle leave yet?

TINA - I hear congratulations to your son and DDIL are in order as closed on their house and are hosting a moving party this weekend. Sorry, I think I'll probably be busy. I'm almost certain of it. Sure hate to miss a moving party though . . .'cuz there's often pizza. and beer. Hate to miss pizza and beer . . .

CAROLE with an E - haven't seen you in a while here at Supper Club. you must have shrunk almost to invisibility by now!

LINDA - I'm guessing you are busy giving classes in EPP and Featherweight maintainance and putting your beautiful yard to bed for the winter. Is your new bathroom still holding up after your past woes?

Last night we had a scramble for dinner and Bill actually said it was good! Usually, he doesn't comment on what I put in front of him.
Since we're having a run of such nice weather, I'm thinking we should grill tonite. Possibly chicken, but burgers would be good, too. I also have a couple of cooked potatoes to use up and brussels sprouts and lots of salad makings. So we have options.

What are your options?

Here is a picture of the mints chickie has been making. And she said after this photo was taken, she still was going to make tiny blue butterflies and yellow roses. Aren’t they awesome? !

Good morning :)
Mary, I never even thought of what we might do for food on moving party day, thanks for the pizza idea! They have tons of pizza places in Cruces! Are you sure you don't want to come help? Sorry there won't be beer though, he's not allowed to have any. I don't like beer but I could go for a glass of Plum Loco wine with pizza! I really need to go down the road to the winery and pick me up a bottle soon, I think last time I had any was 1-2 years ago LOL
Chickie, your mints look so inviting! I'm glad I'm not there right now, I'd be having some ;)
We might have veggie beef soup for supper, We're still cold and windy here. It's been too cold for me to get my walks in, I can do it without the wind but when the wind chill is 24-32 it's just too cold for me! We gotta go get our flu shots ASAP.
Dad's coming for supper tonight.

Good morning! We weren’t as frosty this morning, and I didn’t have to get out. I’ll be walking Ava with the Hooligans at noon. I’ve completed my morning yoga with help from both Tinker Bell and Boomer. Who needs goat yoga when I have the Hooligans!

Yesterday I finished the mints. I’m going to pack them in containers, and then I’ll be done! I got side tracked yesterday afternoon and made a loaf of banana bread to take to some neighbors whose daughter passed from colon cancer.

Mary—you are warmer than we are! Our weather is always crazy here. We usually make a list and do all our errands in town at the same time, and we don’t have tolls. It’s just easier. Of course, the Hooligans love “road trip” and especially the drive-in bank. We make a deposit, they make a withdrawal in the form of dog biscuits. Sometimes they get doubles, and often if they aren’t with us, the tellers send treats for them home with us. They are so spoiled! Glad you aren’t doing Thanksgiving dinner on a W-M parking lot! I definitely wouldn’t leave your rig unattended at any distance! I’m “sew hungry” here, too! I may need to slip in and do something if I get a chance this afternoon.

Thank you for posting the mints photo. Yes, I made a bunch more yesterday—same molds, just different colors. I think my favorites are the calla lilies. We had those growing in our back yard in San Francisco. The birds are because Mom was one of the founders of the local Audubon Society branch and was active for many years. Purple is her favorite color. Sunflowers and asters are for Kansas.

Becca—my late DH used to burn holes in new clothes or get them paint splattered as well. He would never change from his good clothes when he went to his shop.

Helen—I’ve never had a flu shot, but it sounds like you definitely should have one. So sorry you have so many health problems.

Tina—you will be valuable at the moving party as grandbaby caregiver! You will have the most fun of all! I like the pizza idea, too. Maybe some cookies on the side.

I’m not sure what will be on the dinner table tonight. I made rice, so it will be something over rice. The full menu is TBD (to be decided) later.

Bon appétit!

I'm back.....
We ended up having soup for lunch so I'm going to make cube steak with rice and brown gravy, green beans and a salad for supper.
We went with Frankie to get Easton from school and it's so cold from the wind! I can't believe it! And how strange that we haven't had sun all week! We always have Sun!
