SUPPER CLUB - Monday, July 16th

Post by purrfect-lady » Mon Jul 16, 2018 4:07 am

Good morning,

Today is my mom's 104th birthday. She died in 1989, so it's been a while since I've hugged her. Last Friday, we had our oil changed in our car and there was a planter of pinks (dianthus) there. I bent to smell them and instantly teared up. My mom had a flowerbed filled with them and made me a corsage of them for my 8th grade graduation. Any carnation-like smell takes me back to Mom, but especially those lovely pinks! Her favorite perfume was called Blue Carnation. Sweet memories!

I finished my yard work! And not to worry - I NEVER am out there in the heat of the day. And never in the direct sun. I start EARLY - 6 or 7am - and only for a few hours each day. It's looking pretty good around here now. I also got all the laundry done and on the lines. I waited until evening to take it down, though, as my lines are in the sun. Today will be some inside uglies, chiropractor appointment, and sewing. It should be about 92* again today so this afternoon I think I'll hang out downstairs in the family room with my book.

BECCA - glad your hand is improving. I enjoy being outside, too. I just don't particularly enjoy doing yard work! Though, I admit, I do love the satisfaction of admiring everything after I've finished the yard work! When I first bought this place, back in '86, it would take me about 100 hours (spread over 2 weeks) of work to make the rounds in the front and back yards. Now, I spent a total of 20 hours (also spread over 2 weeks) on it. Both the yard and I have changed in the 32 years I've lived here. lol! I hope your DH has a better day today.

IRISH - I'm glad to hear that you aren't spoiling those kitties! Because, as you know, I don't believe in that!! hahahahaha!! I say that with my Foxy draped over the back of the couch at my neck as I type this. He saw the word 'kitty' and wanted to know if I was talking about him. I'm not sure if Cari gets to decide about a baby shower. It's not up to her but to her friends. I say, Pile on the Presents! Let the ladies crash the Pregger Kegger!

LINDA - Sorry you didn't find any antique treasures. But nice that you are getting in a lot of sewing time! How is your DH liking his Man Cave? Bill can fix anything, too. I love that! My first hubby, Mike, had no chance to learn to make repairs, my second hubby, Roy, could do anything but was too sick. Bill is just right! And yes, I noticed what you ate. We are going to call yesterday your birthday dinner. Come your real birthday, you're going to have to eat mac & cheese!!

PAM - I like the way you cook! I think you made up your own recipe and it sounded delish! No catfood on the plate!

JANA - did you get the play set all put up yet? Your baby grand-kitties sound so cute! I love grey/white tigers, calicos, white, - oh gosh, I just plain love cats!! Tuxedos are still the best, though.

SHIRLEY MAE - I love breakfast for supper. Ultimate comfort food in my opinion - next to mac & cheese, that is! And yes, I do remember the movie, Bedtime For Bonzo. I believe our esteemed President Ronald Reagan starred in it.

Since we're going to 92* again today - record breaking temps for us - it will probably be another chef's salad here. Though now Shirley Mae's got me thinking about breakfast. Maybe poached eggs on toast covered with chili-con-queso . . . . hmmmm... Guess we'll have to wait until supper-time and see what happens.

Do you have a supper plan or are you also waiting to see what happens?

Good morning! We are ready for more heat and humidity! It’s really getting to be old—so much heat so early in the year. We’ve had thunderstorms pop up all around, but we don’t even get any droplets.

Linda—I wished I was at your house last night for dinner! I fixed the L-word for us Friday night—so yummy! It’s good to be you!!! By the way, you are beautiful! I loved the picture you posted. Sorry you didn’t find any sewing antiques. Seems like antique stores are all pretty pricey. Yard sale/estate sales are the best way here rather than auctions to get bargains. Dealers bid up auctions until there are no bargains left.

Pam—I make my faux pho with whatever ingredients I have on hand, too. No one serves it around here, so I have to make my own fix. My DH fixes everything, too.

Irish—My last cats had litter boxes. My first one was strictly in/out and always asked to go out. We never had a box for him. Hope you are feeling better! I love your shopping and baby prep! She won’t need a shower when you present your gifts!

Becca—maybe now your wound can get air and heal more quickly. Sounds like you are getting and taking good care of it. Every once in awhile I get to sit out in the yard swing, but it’s been so hot lately…

Mary—what sweet memories! I see iris and day lilies and think of my aunt. I see chickens and think of Grandma. Glad your yard is looking good! I wish my back yard did and the side where the weeds took over again! It’s too hot anytime here, even at night to work outside.

I’ve done my 45 minutes of yoga this morning, and I’m on dog duty for 48 hours for DS3 as well as Ava today at noon.

Dinner tonight… I still have some ratatouille for me and a burger for DH. I know DH will want something for dessert (I haven’t broken him of the habit, and neither has his surgery), so maybe I’ll make some brownies. I hate baking in the heat, even with the AC. When I walk Choc, I’ll amble by DS’s garden and help myself to some tomatoes and maybe some other goodies.

Bon appétit!

Good morning :)
I've been in my sewing room sewing! I'm headed back in there in a few, already walked and going to go bathe and get to sew!
Shirley Mae, so happy to see you and glad you're back home and doing good.
We've eaten all the leftovers around here so I gotta figure out new food for supper, just not sure yet what.

Hello everyone, sunny hereafter a shower of rain.

We had to be at DDS for CA at 9:30 this AM.Much too early for him. Then on to Drug Store for some butterfly strips. Then fill up car.And I go back this afternoon to see Dr about dog bite.Letting a Dr check-it to make sure it’s doing ok.No one has checked it but PA & I want A Dr to see it.It isn’t hurting like it was.Takes a long time to heal I guess.
As Jana says same ole same ole just another day.

Maryz My Mom would be 105 this Oct.She loved so many flowers I could never just pick one.She loved them all & her flower beds were full.Anytime I garden I think of her.She was always busy. Her & Dad Both were special to me.Of course I was my Daddy’s little girl.
Glad you got your yard in order.I hope to get back on myflower beds when my hand heals up.Cant risk infection.

Tina Your heat must be bad.Just stay hydrated. And rest if possible.Guess you can be cooler sewing.

Chickie With Your Heat Ithink I would hide for sure.Wish I could share all this rain we are getting.I would love those fresh veggies.Nothing better.

Shirley Mae So glad you areHome & feeling better. That BP can really wreak havoc in our bodies.Take care.

Irish I too thought the friends decided on the baby shower.Just loadher down unless her space is limited. Our DGD Avery’s Mom has a small house butwhen that little girl came along it all changed.lol

Jana Sure sorry you are sick.Food P is rough.Ionly had it once years ago & that was enough.

Pam Your menus sound great to me.love those veggies.

DH is some better today but most of his afternoon is always nap time.He has no energy left.He used to be great at fixing things.Hurts him now to even try to do something.
DS is our fixit man or Levi.He can do anything.

I have beef stroganoff made for later bec of going to Dr. Will add salad. Becca

Good morning!

Doing very much better today. Yes, I know what caused it it - me! Had some polish sausages in the refrig for a bit too long and ate that. Never again! Need to date things that I put in there!

My mom would have turned 101 on June 26th. They would have been married for 82 years on the 27th of June. My mom was named June too. Her favorite flower was a lilac and always tried to grow them. But my Dad thought it was a weed, so took the lawnmower to them all the time. My dad only grew grass and onions.

Dinner tonight is a flank steak I have had marinating in a lime mesquite marinade. It will turn into deconstructed fajaitas. The way Michael likes them. Lots of grilled onions, avocados, lettuce, pico and cheese.

Becca - happy to hear about a second opinion on the bite. It is probably healing, but a second check won't hurt.

Chickie - we are with you and tired of the heat. Over 100 again for the past few days and no rain. The only good thing is no humidity.

Tina - yea the sewing room! I need to visit mine as well!

Linda - I agree with Chickie on how pretty you are. Praying they get the fire out at Yosemite quickly. Isn't that the way you go in? We always went in on Old Oak Flat road. My aunt and uncle lived in Fresno for many years, then back to Hanford.

Well, Ethan is driving Grandpa nuts and I need to decide whom I will save! LOL!

Enjoy,
Jana

DH and I Skipped breakfast and started really early this morning. He clipped the Star jasmine hedge inside the yard today. Yesterday he clipped the alley side, so today I sat on my stool and worked my way down the alley fence clipping all the Asian jasmine that had grown through the cracks in the fence. At least I was in the shade for several hours. DH had to give up half way down the inside fence because he was in the sun. We are in the 100's everyday, typical weather for us in the summer. THANK GODNESS FOR THE POOL!!! Now the alley looks so neat and clean. Too bad the neighbors don't care about their side of the alley.

Mary...my real birthday is Monday, so I felt justified having all that forbidden food 1 week early! July is a month full of memories for me because it is the birthday of my heart's sister (my BFF), my daughter's same birthday (who died at age 5), and the passing of my mother. All these people are now in heaven. And of course it is my birthday.

The one good thing about our heat, it allows me to justify staying inside and sewing in the afternoons. I got all the laundry done and the floors cleaned yesterday, so I plan to sew this afternoon.

Hope you all stay cool and hydrated, get to do something that renews your soul and gets a few hugs from family. Prayers to all those in need.

I turned 50, today. An interesting milestone. We didn't go out for the beer and catfood rings, tonight. We are saving it for Thursday. Today, I went to farm stands and stopped to pick cherries. I got three different kinds of cucumbers, and have eaten a ton of them. DH brought home a puzza, in case I wanted that for supper, so we had pizza. Now we are watching a movie called The Blind Side, while it thunders and rains out. Oh, and I am having a sweet white wine for dessert.

I am thankful for the rain, especially with how dry some of you have it. I knew it should rain - I watered some of the plants, yesterday.

Have a great day.
