SUPPER CLUB - Fri, May 4th
Good morning,
Cooler today, but still in low 60's ( I hope!). Yesterday I got the borders on my quilt and then fused the orca and it's splash in the lower left corner of the quilt. All that's left is sewing the applique down and deciding on backing. But we also need to clean house today. We're having a small 'do' for Cinco de Mayo and 2 other couples are coming. IF I get all that done, I might have time to clean up my sewing room and start cutting out my DGS's chef's jacket, apron, and hat.
IRISH - you had quite a list of things to do yesterday! I really don't like errand day. It cuts into my sewing time! I bet your friend really needed to talk. and like you said, you probably needed to listen. I've wondered about Jim's friend, Ted. Was that Ted's wife?
BECCA - That was a lot of backpacks in a short period of time! Can you send me a photo of your dolls and bears? Text or e-mail. I'd love to see them. Maybe I can figure out how to post it for you if you'd like.
BECKY - So did your couch potato enjoy color guard?
CHICKIE - I have a suspicion that you'd be good at ANYTHING you wanted to do! Some people make themselves feel more successful by running down others close to them. Sad, but true. After my mom died, the best testimonial Daddy could come up with about her was "All I am today is because I had your good mother behind me." I called him on that! They got married during the depression, lived in a tent, survived off salmon, poached deer, and cooked chicken feed. Mom carried water from a stream to cook, drink, and wash clothes on a washboard, was a cook in a logging camp, survived a forest fire with two babies by waiting it out in the middle of a river, raised 6 kids, canned about 1500 quarts of food every year from a garden she raised, went to nursing school in her 40's (and graduated top of the class!), and didn't kill my dad! I'd say she was a great success in her life! Wow! Where did all THAT come from?? lol!! I guess that's my Mother's Day tribute to my mom!
TINA - Your yard is very different from mine. Here yard work is always fighting a jungle of blackberries, devil's club, invasive ivy, leaves, branches, and a zillion tiny maples every year. Lots of raking up debris and Very few flowers. All followed by evenings of heating pads after chiropractor appointments. I love being outside, but my yard work holds little therapy for me. I'd rather do housework!
JANA - that Ethan is such a smartie!! Junk under the deck? Left over from when they built the house or little stuff blown by the wind? I'm sure Ethan was a great help with that job!! How is Sunflowers coming along?
PAM - your parents must live close to you. Fun to share a beloved hobby with your mom. I wish my Lara liked to sew.
Yesterday Bill did eat his restaurant leftovers for lunch so I made a pizza for supper. But since he was still full from lunch, we still have lots of pizza left over now! lol! So that will be our supper.
As for your supper, if you stop by here, I can give you a slice!

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Fri, May 4th
Good morning!
Mary - junk under deck was tumbleweeds, big enough to sub divide for a house, and stuff my kids put under there during their times of living here and left! It is now gone! Orca will be beautiful! Is this ine for you? Alex will love his hat and jacket - will you put his name or just Chef?
Stu is out on his first day of work. He is heading a sod intalling team for his summer job. With all the rain, the farm in Idaho is now able to cut, as the fields have been too wet before. His team can lay about 2000 sq feet in 90 minutes. They work fast!
Dinner - probably PNW treat with a rice pilaf. We too have a couple of slices of pizza leftover from last night. Our class went overtime and we got home very late. But the class was great!
Sunflowers is sitting waiting for me yo head down to the Batt Cave. Which I will do in a few minutes.
The day is warm, getting hot and sunny!
Enjoy,
Jana

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Fri, May 4th
Good afternoon from warm but just partly sunny with a little rain every once in a while....And when the rain hits the grass you can almost see it grow, much to the neighbor's dismay.....(I honestly think I should talk to Izzy about getting a couple of goats)....
Mary The neighbor that I had talked to was another friend of Jim's and we always called this fellow our "mayor"...Another Notre Dame fan (but then everyone Jim's age who lived in Larimer was a ND fan)...It really is sad to see what some diseases do to the body...He hadn't been in the service and has had no help...His wife is trying and they do have 4 daughters who take turns staying at the house...I will never complain about having it tough, times like that, you do what you have to do....And as far as Ted, I don't get to talk to him too much but I do talk to Donna often and now with the nice weather, we'll be sitting on the porch, solving all the worldly problems...Ted kind of stays in the background...He would come up and shovel or sweep the snow or rake leaves and I have a feeling, he'll be bringing me tomoto and pepper plants what he had grown from seed..Best neighbors in the world.....
WOW, your Mom really was something wasn't she? And what a great tribute coming from your Dad....
Becca, our temps aren't as high as your's but that's OK...Just being able to walk outside and see green is a blessing....Your Mom also sounded very special....Women in those days were made of good stock!
I am really running in low gear today and not sure why, except Baby Girl wants to be pampered and is so darn affectionate and of course she needs my lap...Usually when she gets her shot, it slows her down for a day and I take advantage of it also, lol....But, we are going to clean upstairs (maybe) and then maybe go through some fabric to use for backing...My sister was cleaning out chests and found 5 quilt tops who she has no idea who put them together...They do look a lot like Amish patterns (2 color) and will be easy to finish, I hope....AND then Terry's wife, sent down all the extra Action figure fabric from that last quilt I had made Nick...She really went over board when she bought and there's probably enough fabric for 2 more quilts...I'm thinking maybe making some pillow cases and donating...AND I thought I was cleaning out, downsizing, yea right!
As far as dinner, nothing comes to mind.....I'm sure if I stand in front of the freezer long enough something might fall out.....If not, new bag of chips.......
You all have super day......
Happy eating..........
PENGUIN UPDATE: What a game, Pens came back and tied up the series....My nerves are just about shot and I might have to get my heart meds refilled before this is over.......Maybe it's a good thing I don't drink!

Lol, Irish, your Pens. Glad they are bringing you plenty of excitement. Hope they keep it up for you.
Mary, I loved hearing about your mom. Those are the kinds of stories that need written down, and added to the family ancestry database. Fortitude like that is to be prized. And Becca, it sounds like your mom was a strong foundation of the family, too. I am also lucky to have had the parents I have.
Jana, I hope you have fun in the bat cave. Stu's job of laying sod sounds interesting. I like playing in dirt.
Supper here will probably be a salad. Dan is going to a local meat and produce store with a friend. I didn't ask him to get meat, as raw meat grosses him out. But I did ask for cucumbers, and green peppers, and radishes, and avocados, and scallions. I wonder if he knows what scallions are. Am spending the evening at home with the puppers. They need their time with me, too.
