SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, April 26th

Post by purrfect-lady » Thu Apr 26, 2018 3:28 am

Good morning,

80* today! Love it! But only for today. Tomorrow is to be 60* and rainy. I got a flowerbed cleaned yesterday and plan to do another one today. I also fed my roses. I only have four. Well, I guess five. A kind of volunteer grew up about 3 feet from one of my others and it actually doing quite well! Tina talked roses with me a bit yesterday and now I want to move DH's rhodies and plant roses there instead. But I can tell you that't not happening unless those 6 rhodies their own die natural deaths. I also pulled a stack of batiks in ocean=y colors to start my Orca quilt, did a bit of cutting and actually sewed a little bit. so this afternoon will be more cutting and sewing as well.

JANA - I wouldn't mind adopting your Aaron! Here, grilling consists of shaking BBQ seasoning on the meat and watching it sizzle. I do the side dishes. But my younger sister's husband won't even grill and I've never known him to wash a dish or run a vac or fold a load of clothes. So I count myself lucky that Bill is willing to do all those things.

CHICKIE - oh, I'm sorry about the dental work! I HATE for anyone (but mostly me!) to have to endure dental work. But it's nice you have asparagus. What's your favorite way to fix it? I often roast it with a little olive oil, sesame oil, and then sprinkle it with toasted sesame seeds. or I cut it into pieces and saute it with lemon pepper. Now I'm hungry for asparagus! I would love to see your deck when all the birds are at the troughs!

LINDA - so much fun stuff going on at your house! Those strawberries do sound delicious. Do you snack on them or rehydrate them for recipes later or ??. a ride to the mountains to check on your camping haunts sounds fun! I would like to do that to explore some new ones. There are some forest camps I'd like to look at and we've learned that sometimes it's best to do your exploring sans a 30-foot trailer! Moving day for your hubby - and by extension, you! Fun all around! I'm sorry, but your dress stories had my laughing out loud! But had to be so embarrassing back then!

BECCA - I saw last night that the president is trying to pass something so hospitals have to be more accountable for their charges. Sure hope that comes to pass.

PAM - what's the report on that mashed potato/cheesecake/quiche? Sounds like my kind of food. Don't be so certain that your 90's dresses won't come back in style. A lot of 'new' styles lately seem pretty reminiscent of my high school years! and I graduated in 1969. As for long noodles, I either wind them up on my fork or cut them on my plate with my fork. But men can be funny. Bill decided one day about 8 years ago that he didn't like pepper. If he sees I've put pepper on his food, he complains. If he can't see it, he's OK. But if we're out with other people, he always asks for the freshly ground pepper on salads. And I use the exact same stuff at home!

IRISH should be home by now, but it will probably take a day or two to get re-acclimated. She's probably still trying to make up to her purr-babies for abandoning them!

Well, our spinach salads last night were tasty. But tonite, I think I'll put all the leftovers in the fridge into a small pot of soup. We should grill, given the weather, but I don't want to put the leftovers off another day. So soup will be pork/veggie/noodle (long ones!) soup. With maybe some strips of spinach added at last minute.

What's your plan?

Good morning!

After little boy is done with school today, we are heading over to Thanksgiving Point and the Tulip Festival. Over 300,000 tulips are in bloom. The Master Gardeners of Thanksgiving Point, all volunteers, plant all of the bulbs. Sarah is one of them. It is beautiful! At the end of the season, you can buy a potluck brown bag of bulbs for your yard. The grounds are beautiful all year long and have a large kol pond that you can feed the fish. Ethan's favorite thing there. Sarah is a member and that gets you in all over at Thanksgiving Point. There is a Museum of Curiosity for the kids - hands on to play and do experiments in engineering, electricity, water, etc. Even a baby animal farm in another area. The place is huge! Aaron and Kate's wedding reception was in another section with beautiful gardens.

Dinner - simple - I have a rack of pork ribs. I cheat, wrap in foil, place in slow oven for 3 hours, sauce snd eat. Will add a salad and we are good for a couple of meals.

I did make it to my LQS and got the fabric I needed. The pattern for the quilt is called Here comes the Sun. The fabric is the same line. I changed out one of the colors from tbe original, but the rest is the same.

Mary - leave the rhodies! I love rhodies and there is no way to grow them here in the desert. Besides, I am allergic to roses.

Enjoy!

Good morning! We are overcast here, but it should warm and be pleasant. We had drizzle all day yesterday… well, most of the day. I got virtually nothing done except finish hand quilting a wall hanging I started ages ago. I’ll make a sleeve and bind it maybe today… MAYBE! It will be nice to have a UFO behind me.

Pam—your mashed potato/quiche sounds like a fancy shepherd pie. How did you like it? I’m out of asparagus. Hope I can con my neighbor out of some more. I want to take some to Mom—she loves it. How funny! My late DH and DH both couldn’t/can’t stand long spaghetti/noodles. Bite size is the only way. To me it’s easier to eat long spaghetti. But, DH doesn’t like tomato based Italian including spaghetti. He does like lasagna… could it be the long, skinny noodles is the difference?

Becca—I’d love to have you sitting on the deck with me! Yesterday, DH was out on the deck talking on the phone, and he finally figured out why the orioles were practically dive-bombing him… he was sitting right next to their jelly plate!

Linda—I’m not sure how many strawberries I’ll get this year. There are about half the plants from last year. The two sets of “yard calves” did a number on the strawberries, hostas, coral bells, and anything they could wrap their calf lips around. I’m still taking inventory of what comes up. I vote for more fabric storage! I really enjoy watching the birds while I sew at my machine, and I can see some of the hummer feeders while I practice my yoga. Your prom dress sounds beautiful! I thought I was queen of prom gaffes… klutz that I am, I tripped down the stairs on the grand entrance, and I was wearing a short formal! I was wearing the “glass” spring-a-lator shoes with fancy heels—probably hadn’t practiced walking in them enough! The tails episode is why I only want bows and aprons tied in front!!! Experience!!!

Jana—you are so lucky to have a grill chef in the family! DH has no idea how to use a grill. I use a grill pan on the stove rather than tend grill and stove. Or… we go to the kids’ houses!!!

Mary—This should be the last time I have this much dental work done At least it’s not the whole thing, just replacements on “top”. I sauteed my asparagus with the mushrooms in a little olive oil with lots of lemon pepper! Yummy on your soup!

Becca—The sons butcher their venison. Usually they make brats and jerky, but sometimes ground which I use in chili. I can’t grow roses to save me. I love them! We are on the border of too hot for rhodies. One of the professors grew them in Missouri. I’ve gained on soft food… hard to eat salads! Not a good thing!

Jana—my SIL has master gardener status now and has been doing a lot of volunteer work. Your area sounds beautiful!

DH arrived for brunch, so I need to get busy… Dinner here… you know the drill… sigh! Doc appointment tomorrow for release to pureed foods… It will be a banquet for DH!

Bon appétit!

Good morning :)
I just came back in a little bit ago, we were out back. I watered everything and also planted a new plant;it's a replacement plant for 1 that died last year. One of my sister in laws gave me a hummingbird yucca and it's planted, she also gave me an elephants trunk, Very cool looking. My Hummers are very active and my Orioles are back and my swallows too....I hope my Blue Buntings show up soon.
Frankie is over at Dad's fixing his Blazer. Frankie said he thinks Dad is leaning toward selling his old truck and his blazer to get a newer more reliable truck, we hope he does it. I think he should sell his motor home too, he said he won't take any trips and he doesn't need anything that big but doesn't know if he'll sell it.
I made sesame chicken last night, it was yummy. I also made shredded apple dumplings yesterday, they were yummy yummy! Tonight I'm leaning towards tacos, we haven't had them for awhile.

Good afternoon from a very sunny, still a little chilly, SW. Pa...I, of course am taking all the credit for bringing back the sun (gave Jim some time off)....AND we are supposed to be having great weather for the next week if you can believe those in the know.....Of course it's nothing like Florida but I am so happy with the sun.....

Mary, I hope your ears weren't ringing too much because you were talked about, lots, while I was away....I think everyone knows about our Mary, at least everyone I know....
I did force myself to stop at a Quilt shop (that would be a huge reason to move down there)...Oh my, it was great and the gal who owned it was fantastic..And of course she heard all about this forum and all about the wonderful quilts I've received....Like I said, I would really be in heaven if I lived near by....

One of Gin's neighbor's had embroidered blocks and had me show her how to put them together and make a quilt...She was so excited and I was sorry I wasn't going to be there longer to see it all come together but she did promise pictures...But, I also promised I'd be back in the Fall....I was surprised at the interest in quilting down there, pleasantly surprised.....

I had a little over a week of doing nothing but reading, crocheting, talking and quite a bit of eating...Sitting in the sun was heaven and the temps did get up to 92 on a few days but you will never hear me say, it was too hot...Just right! The whole trip was just right, loved every minute...The only bad thing, when I got home, Jim wasn't waiting to hear all about it....
Of course the fur kids didn't know if they were actually mad at me or not...But, didn't take Baby Girl long to decide and she has been my shadow ever since...Hard trying to breath with a 15 lb. cat on your chest all night...I came home to a bunch of appointments, I'm on the schedule to take care of the Petsmart cats and the gals are making me go to lunch tomorrow, the nerve! the suitcase is emptied and put away, clothes are washed but that's it...Did talk to my sister and her DH has had a few setbacks and rushed to the Er once again....Just not sure what's going to happen there...

I've tried to keep up with the posts but Gin doesn't have a computer and it was hard trying to get things on my tablet....So, I'm really in the dark but I'll catch up......
You heard the story about Mr. and Mrs. Tomato taking little tomato for a walk and he kept lagging behind and finally, Daddy Tomato said, "Ketchup"....Who would have thought that's how it all began, lol.....

Oh well, enough of my chatter....I will get back to you all, but right now, I'm suffering from "jet lag", after all it was a 2 hour flight!

As for dinner, might be bread and water, my cupboards are bare...Maybe one of the neighbors will feel sorry for me and bring me something, lol....But, I probably can live on the extra "fat" I picked up while away...

You all have a great day............I think it's good to be back...

Happy eating.................

The mashed potato quiche was a hit. We ate it warm. I love shepherds pie. will have to make some, sometime. I am breezing through quickly, because we are going to Erie for the evening. I want some new shoes, and out to eat. Maybe Indian. We will see what entices us when we get there. Even though Erie's in PA,, it's actually closer to us than Buffalo. Have a nice evening all of you!

The tulips and gardens were magnificent! To tell you how big the gardens are - we rented the golf cart and drove at a walking pace and it took us 90 minutes to drive the path laid out for the carts. Found two trees that we like, so Sarah is looking up what the names are, so we can buy one for my front yard and a couple for the south side in the back. We will find the biggest we can get - reasonably price - to plant. I am getting too old for the small trees to grow in! LOL!

Dinner change to a mac and cheese stir fry with lots of veggies.

Also, before we left this afternoon, I got all the pieces cut out and ready to sew on the sunflower quilt.
