SUPPER CLUB - Monday, Jan 15th

Post by purrfect-lady » Mon Jan 15, 2018 4:42 am

Good morning!

After a super weekend, we're supposed to go back to a week of rain. Bummer. But I guess that's why we've earned the name, The Evergreen State.

I didn't do a lot this weekend. Finished my blocks for the Valentine Swap (SIGN-UPS END TODAY! BLOCKS DUE MARCH 10TH!), and yesterday I got binding sewn to the back of a queen quilt. This morning I'll flip it and stitch it down on the front by machine. I used to do it by hand but when I had some hand issues a few years back I was forced to give up hand sewing of all kinds for several months. So I had to use my machine and quickly got the hang of it. No more hand-stitched bindings for me!

Anyway, besides that, we watched the football games so I did a lot of work on my big counted cross-stitch project - an old world Santa with 3 reindeer with a dark blue background. When it's finished it will be snowing and the 'flakes' will be tiny white irridescent beads. It's almost 3/4 finished now - after 14 months.

We did go to Lowe's yesterday and bought stuff for our painting project. Hope to begin that soon. Just the big family room downstairs. It's going to be a BIG project. We have to do the ceiling, remove wallpaper, texture, etc. With family rolling in soon, I hope we get it done in record time. I work better under pressure, with deadlines.

BECCA - I think you're wise to cancel any outing if possible with all the flu out there. You're right - the flu shot this year was a miss and is only about 10%-30$ effective. However, it does lessen the serverity of the symptoms, which for some folks can be a life-saver, especially elderly and chronically ill folks.

JANA - congrats on being invited to speak at church! What is your subject? I love kids' visits, but you may have to adjust your eating times. We have some Canadian friends who eat their main meal at noon and just have soup or a sandwich in the evening, It's healthier and they have always maintained a low weight. I just have a problem planning supper right after I've finished breakfast!

TINA - Hooray!!! Home arrived! It's been a long time coming! After things get all hooked up, it will be fun to help your dad set up again. It will be a new beginning for your dad.

IRISH - did you buy anything flashy this weekend?? ;o)

Tonight we are having BBQ'd hamburger pie. With mashed potatoes and gravy on the side. We are out of salad fixin's but we have broccoli, peas, green beans, and corn to choose from for a veggie. I'm going to get everything ready ahead of time so I can just pop the pie into the oven. I have a friend who even makes her mashed potatoes ahead of time (and when she goes fancy, she adds nutmeg to them!) and puts them in a baking dish. She pops them into the oven, covered with foil, when she puts in the rest of her supper. So I guess they are baked mashed potatoes. It works pretty well. Anyone here ever tried this before?

So what's the info on your supper tonite?

Good afternoon!

Well dinner plans changed last night as Kate, Aaron, and Gracie showed up. So I quick made a batch of spaghetti and tossed a salad. So, again, we have leftivers.

Mary - the subject they asked me to speak on is prayer and the inspirations, answers that come from listening. There are several conferences talks that I can use as reference, as well as my own experiences through life. Kind of like here, where you always seek out to help and share your insight.

Becca - oh, wish they would get everything together. You are keeping warm with some other heat source, I presume. Since mashed potatoes are not good for Michael's blodvsugar level - spikes it, I buy the premade mashed taters from Bob Evans. They are pretty good.

Working on crocheting baby blankets for our new one to be.

Enjoy!

Time for me to get to the kitchen and start dinner. Having chicken strips, potatoes, salad, and vegi.
Got my applique quilt sandwiched today. Boy, I am so nervous about quilting this one. Be glad when I get started and see how it goes. The next three days are going to be wet and very cold, so I may not get to start it for a few days. Don't want to haul my sewing machine in the cold and wet. Easier to quilt at the clubhouse.
