SUPPER CLUB - Fri, May 5th

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri May 05, 2017 4:08 am

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Anyone having Mexican food tonite? I'm thinking we're going to have either tacos or enchiladas. Will check the fridge and see what ingredients we have.

I did a bit of puttering in the yard yesterday. I planted two hydrangeas and supervised the planting of a lilac, put out the last of my yard art, and swept the corner of the garage where they are all winter-stored. I have lots of little animals and metal things I like to set out under ferns, etc. Then about 2:30 pm we lit a fire in our firepit and relaxed for about 1/2 hour until suddenly our sunny day became a thunderstorm that went on long after bedtime. Today should be rainy so it will be that laundry I've been putting off and cleaning the family room until time for my chiropractor appt at 3:00pm.

CHICKIE - your calf stories are quite something! Those babies are getting strong. I hope Blackie is doing better today. Good thing you were wearing Doyal's clothes and not your own! lol!

JANA - sounds like the quilt show was fun! I hope you're able to get that machine. It must be a doozy if the discount is $7,500! Our quilting machine was a show model but we didn't get any discount. The dealer said they were just breaking it in for us.

LINDA - I'm happy that you'll finally be able to get that RV out and enjoy it!! I've never seen a jasmine ground cover. Ours is a climber.

TINA - so it WASN'T a typo! I was thinking you mean 'baRs', as in a goody. Show's where my mind goes first!

CHRISS - you always find such good quilty bargains! Those magazines ought to keep you off the streets and out of the bars for a while!! your dinner the other night sounds delish. I've had chili rellenos and I've had burritos. But I've never had a chili relleno burrito.

I've had a message from IRISH. She's had a pretty rough week. Her knee has been giving her fits ever since her second story window escapade. (she says she'll never do THAT again!!) The pain got so bad she got nauseated and then started having chest pains. She called 911, which also brought the neighbors. Neighbors called family and stayed with Jim while she went to the hospital where she hung out for a couple of days. Her sister was with her. Her boys were with Jim. After enduring a lot of tests and meds and blood draws, it was determined that her heart is OK and XR's didn't show an injury to her knee. She thought she needed an MRI, but they wouldn't order one. She is home now, using a walker. Terry is with them. Kathy and Tim are flying in and family is looking for a place for Jim to stay while she recuperates. They think they found one and are now going through the admission process where the proper paperwork is never forwarded, and delays ensue. The thought of even a temporary stay for Jim in a nursing home is breaking her heart. Anyway, our Irish has been either too sick, too downhearted, or in too much pain to get on the computer. She's going through a lot right now but still sounds upbeat and - well - Irish-y! God bless her.

so back to supper plans - something Mexican. Ole!

Good morning :)
Prayers for Irish and Jim.
I guess the boys got me sick, I was having chills last night and then sweating to death and I feel like dog do this morning but my job description doesn't allow for sick days too much unless I'm in bed so onward I go. ... plus Frankie's home a and Kevin will be here in a few minutes so I have backup if needed.
I think I'll make green Chile enchiladas for supper to celebrate Cinco de Mayo :) thanks for the reminder Mary :)

Good sunny morning! I’ve been feeding calves, feeding dogs, feeding birds, been to DS3’s and put down potty pads and let Choc and Maggie out, fixed myself for the day, have a cup of coffee beside me… Soon I’ll be making brunch. I have a load of laundry that needs hung on the lines (mainly milk soaked jeans), and I'm off to do that now. After that... the floors.

Yesterday I made lasagna for dinner and invited DS3 to eat with us. I also made him a take home lasagna. I think he took it to work for dinner today/tonight (24-hour paramedic shift). He stayed for the entertainment the calf pen for feeding time… He and DH were standing in the drive talking as the floor show went on. DH said he was laughing like crazy at the spectacle. I really think more appropriate names for the calves would be Dim and Dimmer. Lint knows she has a bucket, can eat from the bucket on her own, but thinks she should butt around and create havoc with Blackie and her bucket with the medication. Several times I grabbed for the fence to keep myself upright. Same thing this morning… I try to feed Lint outside the fence, but it just doesn’t work. I’m still concerned about Blackie. I hope she gets better…

Mary—thunderstorms! That’s our weather!!! It’s fun to watch a storm roll in. I love the clouds, and you can literally see the rain come across the pond to the house before running to cover.

Jana—what model Pfaff do you have? I love mine, although I wish it had stitch regulator capabilities.

Tina—add avocados and onions to my BLT and give me a BLOAT!!! I really like them that way.

Chriss—what a fun find! Chile relleños… in a burrito… that’s got to be good!

Irish—sending you love and prayers. My heart goes out to you. I know this is a difficult time/decision for you, but know we are lifting you up. You need to regain your strength and recuperate, too. Get a brace for your knee and let those tendons heal and strengthen. I’m so glad Terry is there and Kathy will be soon. HUGS AND LOVE!!!

Dinner tonight… guess it’s not Mexican but the rest of the lasagna…

Bon appétit!

P.S. Tina--hope you don't get totally down and that you are on your way to feeling better already! I'm coming to dinner at your house!

Becca--I'm going to make some hard-boiled eggs now. Your sandwiches sound so good! They might be for tomorrow. Something we had for supper at Grandma's was "Eggs Goldenrod"--It was toast covered with the egg whites chopped in a white sauce and the yolks grated through a sieve to make them look like "goldenrod". We loved them and felt so special!

The calves really are funny and drive me batty when they are pushing, shoving and not cooperating. So far I haven't ended on my rear in the mud, but I sure wear a lot of milk--from head to toe!!! They are both out laying in the brambles now.

It was hard to concentrate on sewing yesterday with the view out my windows--calves, and birds. The birds are amazing--at least 4 pair of Baltimore orioles at a time at the jelly can, half an orange on a nail, and the humming bird feeders; brilliant yellow goldfinches, red cardinals, the red headed (red-bellied) woodpecker at the orange, suet, and even the humming bird feeders; humming birds by the dozens now, nuthatches, various sparrows, Carolina wrens, chickadees, downy woodpeckers--a wood duck male swimming across the pond... it's all very entertaining. I'm always feeding something here...

I finished vacuuming the floors, and they definitely look better. I may wait a day to mop... Time to walk over to see Choc and Maggie, then I hope to come back and sew a bit before the next feeding time at the zoo here.

HUGS!

Good afternoon,

Let's try this again - had it all typed and hit a wrong button!

Sarah and Michael are heading over to get my new machine. It's a Pfaff Creative Sensation ll pro. Red too! The sale is fantastic and i finally convinced Michael to do it. Lots of arm twisting! LOL!

Dinner is my saussge tortellini soup. Michael requested it. He gets what he wants! At least today! LOL

I have all the kiddos - Baden is asleep in the crib and the others are being entertained by Paw Patrol.

Matt is taking posession of the RV and getting the how to operate everything lesson. They will be here in a little while.

On a sad note, my nephew passed away this morning. We just learned of his bone cancer last week. He is just younger than Sarah, not quite 40. He has two girls around 18. We will go to the funeral next week.

While at the quilt show we got a bunch of fun wall hanging patterns -very whimiscal. I also got a couple of LA templates and Red Snappers - oh my those are wonderful! We need to alter my leaders, but that is easy and what a breeze it will be to load on a quilt.

Time to scoop a few ice cream cones for my little ones.

Enjoy,
Jana

O'Dorothy, Things will improve. It's just going to take healing time. keep looking up and I will keep you in my prayers. I'm thrilled your kids are coming home. It will be nice to have them all underfoot. Hugs to you.

Tina, I can't for the life of me find that cook book that had your red and green sauce recipe's in it. Some day, when you have time, if you'll e-mail them to me I'd appreciate it.

Chickie, Marilyn loves lasagna, she doesn't want meat in the sauce and she piles on the parm cheese. silly girl.

Jana, enjoy that new toy.

Becca, I love deviled egg sandwiches. Jerry doesn't care for the way eggs smell up the fridge, but boy sometimes I just can't resist. And, sometimes I take the deviled egg salad amd add tuna and some celery. oh gosh, I love that.

Maryz, Hydranga's remind me of my grandma, she had a beautiful yard.

Tonight will be, BLT's and fried taters? I think Jerry is thinking breakfast for dinner. time will tell.

you all have a great night.

Hello Everyone:

Mary I have both Asian Jasmine and Star Jasmine. Asian Jasmine does not flower, makes a nice dense ground cover. But it grows fast and has to be cut back severely in April or it mounds up and get woody. This pictures show it after I trimmed it way back early April. Now it is all new growth green and lovely. The lavender flower is a trumpet vine.

The Star Jasmine is the climber and is in bloom right now. Bad for my allergies also. It too, has to be kept under control or it gets tall and bushy. This picture shows the Star Jasmine as a hedge along our back fence. Both Jasmines require lots of cutting, cutting, cutting!

Today DH and I spent the morning with our accountant figuring out all our finances now that DH is retiring, we are both turning 70 in several months and we have to start SS and withdrawing from our retirement funds. High finance!! Looks like we will be able to cover all our daily expenses OK and be able to take a good trip once a year. DH is so hyper about this and gets his britches all in a knot, worried about having enough. But then he worries about everything!!

PM I spent cleaning Speedy the turtle. It is such a chore and I like it less and less as I get older. I have to hang over the bathtub and dismantle his 2 filters, scrub every little piece, then scrub him, then empty his 55 gallon tank and scrub it. Then fill the tank, reassemble the filter tanks and put him back in. Takes almost 4 hours and I am exhausted. I am getting too old for this. Speedy will outlive us so I will have to start looking for a home for him. Farm chick, do you want a water turtle to add to your menagerie? LOL

Now finally it is dinnertime and DH is making Sole Oscar (no idea what that is)will let you know how it turned out, asparagus and coucous. You all have a good dinner and prayers to those in need.

**Linda
