SUPPER CLUB - Sat, Dec 17th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sat Dec 17, 2016 1:02 am

Good morning!

We are warm this morning. And going to 77* this afternoon. And plummeting to 22* by tomorrow morning. A 'blue norther' we're told by the TV weatherman, when the temp drops so dramatically. We filled our fresh water tank and will pull in our hoses tonite. And maybe toss the dog onto the bed.

Last night we had a campfire for Happy Hour. It was so nice to sit out and enjoy it with friends and a glass of wine.

TINA - The tamales were 'medium', just how we like it! And they were delicious! Sometimes when we injure, overuse, strain muscles on one side of our body, they compensate which refers the pain to the other side. Try switching feet for a few days. Or at least alternate.

CAROLE - so happy to hear you are feeling so well!!!!

CAROL - so happy to hear you are feeling so well!!!!

CHICKIE - Happy family dinners! I'm sure you had a great visit with DD and family. Your cookie was awesome! You always think up such cool, unique things to do for people! And no kidding - Bill is so jealous of your haircut! His is now 1/8"-1/4" long all over. He doesn't know what the gal was thinking when she started to buzz his head. But by the time he noticed what she was doing, he figured he better not move. Needless to say he didn't leave a tip.

IRISH - there you are! I hope you came away from your dr appointments smiling. Please. Sounds like you could use another girl day with your friends.

BECCA - thanks for answering my questions. But that leads me to yet another question: So do you pour the topping on before baking or is it meant for after? That's probably a silly question, but this is a very different recipe than I'm accustomed to.

JANA - didn't you have a bug very recently, and now you've lost your voice. I could hardly hear you from here! Hot tea and with a bit citrus in it might help. Probably won't, but a nice cup of tea would be enjoyable.

Has anyone here seen the "Instant Pot"? It's an appliance that is crockpot, steamer, rice cooker, 2-way pressure cooker, yogurt maker, saute-er, food warmer. In other words, it's smarter than I am. Bill said all the women in his gym class are talking about how wonderful it is. So we bought one for Autumn & Aaron for Christmas. Just wondered if any of you have seen or used one.

Going to make some Chex Mix this morning for gifts and also some caprese appitizers. (fresh mozzarella cheese balls, grape tomatoes and fresh basil threaded onto long toothpicks and drizzled with olive oil, a little basalmic vinegar and black pepper.) If there's time after the kids leave, we will be going to a white elephant party in another campground so we need to take an appetizer.

But first I'm going to get my soup into the crockpot. It's sort of a combo of chicken/blackbean/tortilla soup. We'll have biscuits, too, and I have baklava for dessert.

Whew! Busy morning so I better get crackin'! Lots of oven usage on what will probably be the hottest day of our time here in Texas! Wish I was making this all tomorrow instead, which will probably be the coldest day of our visit! My thoughts were to give our food gifts out at the white elephant party tonite, but we'll just see how things go.

Good morning Mary and all who join us at the table. Today, I think, we will have pork chops, roasted potatoes, fresh green beans, and a salad. LAst meal I will prepare here at my DB. We leave tomorrow to go to S.C. for Christmas with DB. DD will be working until the week after Christmas, sooooooooooo I will still be cooking, just different place. Lol

Mary, sounds like you have a really fun day planned. Enjoy today and save some of that cooking heat because you wil need it tomorrow.

Carol without an e, I am so glad that you are feeling better, just don't overdo. Wishing you the best Christmas ever.

Irish, hope you have a quiet day and are able to get into the sewing room today.

Becca , you are always in my thoughts.

Chickie, a good day to you too. You are always so thoughtful. It is good to be you..

These two guys decided that if I kick off they could live together and spend winters in Az and summers here. Lol. The Odd Couple reborn!,, lol

Later gater,

Carole with an e

Hi ladies,
It's been a few day since I was here to visit. I really don't know where the time goes.

Yesterday I had to get camper cleaned and then last night was our dance with the Winter Texan Band at our own clubhouse. That was a lot of fun.

Tonight is another dance at another RV park, but DH came down with a bug, so now I don't know if he will be up to it tonight or not????

I have to come up with something quick for our meal tonight, so I think it will be leftover meatloaf and maybe a nice salad and a few leftover sides???

Boy this weather is crazy isn't it? I feel sorry for our quilting sisters in the line of this terrible artic blast. We will feel it here, but it will be mild compared to the below zero stuff.

Hope you all get some time to SEW!!!

Hugs
Vel

Good morning from the Tundra and I say that literally....We are ice covered, everything has a thick coating, including the side of our house....I was up early (not sure why) and I stepped out to get the paper and slide for a yard or better down the sidewalk...Needless to say, that was hours ago and we still don't have a paper and nothing has melted yet.....The salt trucks have been out half the night but I think as quickly as they put down the salt, it freezes again...BUT, we are to reach 50 today and then, of course, the bottom will drop out and be very cold tomorrow.....

Mary, your weather sounds as goofy as what we're having up here...But, at least, you have "warm" today..I just went upstairs to check on Jim and he said, he was going to stay in bed all day, smart fellow! Even the fur kids are both snuggled in bed with him...I see you are going to have a great day, visiting with Autumn....Lots and lots of hugs, right? How far away is she from where you are camping? We did leave the doctor's smiling but a little frustrated...My numbers were great, lost about 10 pounds and then he added, "must be that stress free living"...With Jim is was just more of a "Merry Christnas" kind of thing because he really goes to the VA doctor...There has been a shake up in the office and he has sold his practice and now has all new help, which is sad, but he did say, he'll be around for another 5 years....
And for sure, I am ready for another "gal's day out" but think it will have to wait until after the 1st of the year....Too much to do and not enough time.....

Carole, with an e, Things are really looking up for you...I have a feeling, you are going to have a great holiday...Funny about the Odd Couple...Have you talked to Luke? I'll bet the kids are really spoiling him...Also, so good to hear you say, you're feeling better...Let's hope and pray that continues.....

Carol, without an e, good advice, don't over do....So good to hear you also are feeling better............

Vel, our "dancing queen"....sorry to hear DH has the bug...Sure puts a damper on your "two steppin"....Jim and I both got our shots yesterday so hopefully, that bug will stay far, far away.....

Jana, I go along with that cup of tea, in fact, I'll join you...Maybe this is a warning for you to slow down! You can't keep up that "Super Woman" pace...

Chickie, I keep forgetting to tell you about a little trick I heard about in cleaning off your windshield....Get a sock and fill it with kitty litter and lay it on your dash board....I guess it picks up the moisture and keeps the windows clear...And then I also saw, mix 1/4 cup water with 3/4 cup rubbing alcohol, put it in a spray bottle and use it on the windows....Our car is in a heated garage so I haven't had to use either one of these but if you do, let us know.....Of course if the kitty little sock works, that would make a good gift....

Today is laundry day and then onto the sewing room....I need to finish 1 more attic/window/panel and get it in the mail for Kathy....

OH, my big news, Terry and the boys will be here for 8 or 9 days, not going back home until the 2nd....I knew the boys would be off school but didn't realize Terry had that many vacation days left...So, this just made my Christmas!.....

For our dinner, it has to be soup...Not sure what kind but it's a soup day and that's it....I did make Jim an apple pie so he's good to go in that department.....

You all have a great day......Stay warm....

Happy eating................

Hi Everyone,
Tonight will be dinner out.

Think there may be some confusion over the Carol(e) meals. Carole's dinner last night did sound delicious. Thanks for the advice about not overdoing it. Today I stayed home from the gym, because I was sore.

Maryz - You sound so delighted. Glad you are enjoying Texas!

Becca - Glad the fires are out and even happier the air is clean! Sorry you have a UTI.

Velma - Hope you get to go to the dance, but if DH isn't well stay home and get well.

Jana - Lost glasses? Oh dear, need to find, top priority! Slow down and enjoy the season.

Irish - Such a great hint for Chickie!! I want to know if the sock filled with cat litter trick works.

Have a great day everyone!
California Carol
