SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, Oct 4th

Post by purrfect-lady » Tue Oct 04, 2016 3:44 am

Good rainy morning!

We got a lot of yard work done yesterday. Bill has equipment that, if I can talk him into helping, we can do as much in 3 hours as I can do alone in 3 days. And yesterday he helped!! Another day or two like that and we'll be good to go into the winter - will just have leaves to deal with as they fall. Felt good to get so much done. I even had some sewing time before June came back from SEattle. (Sis)

TINA - I almost forgot about your Sue and Sam! Will this end up being a different project from the ISBS swap you hosted (and will host in near future!) You have a lot of doctors. Wishing only the best outcome from all those appointments!

IRISH - what a special wedding! And glitches often become the stories you recall with laughter later. But for me, the highlight was the Irish Blessing! And I'm so happy to hear that Jim's 'vacation' went off so well. Maybe you can do it again sometime just to give you a rest, or perhaps you can visit Terry . . . How is your foot? Are you still in the boot? If so, I hope you were able to jazz it up for the wedding!

CAROLE with an E - so happy you saved the crops! Even the palm? Does it bear anything or is it strictly ornamental? Yes, there are rules here - well, just the one really. Though I truly think liver should be put on the banned list as well. But as you can see, it's like herding cats to keep an eye on everyone's menu!!

VELDA - much as I love a night or three off from cooking, it's always nice to plan a full, new menu. And that will be tonite for us! And I have between now and the end of this post to figure out what it will be!

CHICKIE - have you tried to grow an avocado tree? Maybe, if you plant it in the right spot and baby it along, it will thrive! Yes, it was odd that everyone loved our Snickers but Bill's mom. But that was our Beverly. She didn't like me either. We had a list of folks who asked if they could have Snick if we die. There is no such waiting list for Scottie. lol! But we love Scot anyway.

JANA - let's see now, Matt lives 20 minutes away, Aaron will be 10 minutes away, Sarah is 5 minutes away (?), Daniel is two states away . . Who is left? don't you have five? I feel like I'm trying to name the Seven Dwarfs here! But how nice to have almost all your kids so close by, yet in their own space. any chance Daniel will ever move to Utah?

CAROL without an E - your chix parm sounds pretty good. Wish I had ingredients on hand for all that. But I can't justify going shopping when I have so much other stuff on hand. But maybe next week . . .

My sis and I never went thrift shopping. She stopped to see Jim on the way home and next brother up, Al, was there, too. So they spent the day visiting Jim between his therapies and then went to lunch together. She got home at 2:30. So I sewed half my afternoon away. worked for me!

Supper - I'm wondering about baked potato soup. I've never made it before but how hard can it be?. But I'm over run with potatoes. Though we just had soup for two nights. Maybe Thai chicken with rice and salad. And I'll do the soup in a few days. I really need to take stock of what's in the freezer.

Acchhh!! I just lost this entire post! But hitting the FWD arrow twice (when back arrow didn't work) brought it back. Whew!

So what's the plan, Stan? Got a menu idea to share?

Mary, loved your helper yesterday :) you can put me on the list for Scotty if anything happens to you two. He's a good little dude. Sue and Sam are the sew along online I'm doing with the black background.
I made cube steak with onions, garlic, green chili and tomatoes and Frankie made a salad and I did have a tiny bit of Spanish rice left from Saturday so we shared that.... It was yummy.... A little heat to the chili at times :)

Holly has been looking up crock pot meals and man of man do some of then make my mouth water LOL baked potato soup sure sounds yummy Mary..... Frankie and me both love soup.... We can eat it all the time :) I'm going to have to decide what I'm making now....Hmmmmm I'll get back to you;)

Good afternoon from a gorgeous, sunny, warm, Sw. Pa...This is to be our last week of nice weather (so "they" say) and boy am I going to enjoy every minute.....

Mary, I sure hope and pray nothing happens to you and Bill but can I get on the list for Scottie and you can throw in the 2 cats as a bonus.....We also have yard work and I'm afraid most of those leaves will just lay where they fall, unless maybe they blow next door, lol....Jim was out on the back porch sweeping and then took a few things to the shed...He's almost a changed man since his "vacation" but I still have to watch him pretty close....I've never made baked potato soup but it sure does sound good.....And the foot is really coming along and I've kind of ditched the boot....I did have it with me for the weekend but for the wedding, I wrapped it and got into a shoe...But, you know, after a few drinks, my foot felt fine..My sister even had a few of the miracle drinks and her back was healed...I think we should do those weekend things more often.....
I have found myself looking at Cari's pictures over and over and you just can't miss the love between these 2.....

Carole, happy that you were able to save the tree..Kathy told me, on their way home to Reno, they flew into California and it was 88 degrees and then onto Reno, an hour away and it was in the 40s with snow...The next morning, everything was covered with snow and most of their garden didn't look too good...Her DH had asked his DD to pick all the fruit and veggies while they were away and it must have slipped her mind! They were sick about it.....Most of the time, I obey the "food rule" but Jim does like "mac n cheese" filets every once in awhile and he used to even request that other banded food, yuck....But, for the most part, we try to eat normal....You know, you don't want to loose your spot on Mary's list......

Tina, this is vacation week, right? And I'm sure you're taking it easy, right???? I'll bet your Sue and Sam are going to be gorgeous....Last night's dinner sounded pretty darn good, (minus the hot, lol).....

Jana, it sure is nice to have the kids living close...Our of our 5, 2 live in other states, which, it's nice to visit but I'd so love to have them near home....But, the kids have to do what's best for them and I'm blessed to be able to see them as much as we do....But, I can imagine how exciting it is to watch a new house being built.....

Well, I think I'd better have a little dance with the vacuum....Other than that, not getting much accomplished (except looking at pictures, lol).....As for dinner, it might be stuffed peppers and some sort of potato...That is, if I get to the garden and pick the last few peppers...Or I could make stuffed pepper soup or even that stuffed pepper casserole......Gee, hard to decide........

Happy eating.......................

Liver??? What??? Did someone say LIVER??? YUMMM!!! With bacon and onions!!! I like mine dissected and cut in strips, coated in flour and sautéed in bacon grease until just tender with a pile of sautéed onions on top. When I was severely anemic (iron count under 5.5), I could almost eat liver raw and fixed myself a huge plate of it at least weekly, sometimes more often. Since I’m no longer anemic, I don’t crave it like I did… I just enjoy it way too seldom. It’s funny what the body can crave when it needs it. I would have a side of spinach along with the liver.

It's no wonder I have a weight problem, there's not too much that I don't like to eat.

Mary—I have had avocados that I started and babied in pots for several years, but they didn’t survive outdoors in winter. It’s too hard to bring a lot of things inside… DH does not like my plants cluttering his garage in winter. I bring a few things into the sun room as long as they aren’t too large. Poor Scottie—no waiting list for him. How sad! His fur would not survive the cockleburs, stick tights and other hang-on seeds here on the farm without a haircut.

Irish—I need some of those miracle drinks for my plantar fasciitis! So happy to hear Jim is still enjoying the effects of his “spa weekend”! I’m going to try to grow some peppers next year where they will get more sun. I should so it with my tomatoes as well. They had lots of vines and not too many fruits. Some years they get too much sun… hard to predict.

Tina—One of the coffee guys sent me some summer squash, and I fixed it for me with Hatch ro-tel style tomatoes and green peppers with mozzarella cheese on top. I ate it all over a couple of dinners. I need to look up some more crock pot meals, too. I love soup as well!

We are still in the 80s in the daytime although that may change later in the week. Hopefully there is some rain coming through this evening. We’re terribly dry. I have to water my flowers.

I’m not sure about dinner tonight. We are going to Audubon meeting. They are talking about monarch butterflies and have some to band and release at the arboretum where we meet. They are ready for their southern journey. I saw one straggler hummer this morning. Back to dinner… if I play my cards right, we might get to eat out… a burger or pizza???... as we go to town.

Enjoy!

Good afternoon!

It's National Taco Day, so we will be having tacos!

Mary - we only have 4 kids, but because of circumstances when Stu was a baby and a little boy, we raised him, so i count that as 5. Sarah does take exception to that. When Stu was less than two years old, his dad died. Sarah didn't remarry until he was 8. We keep trying to give Daniel all the great reasons to move here, but Kari's family is right there where they live, so i think it is a lost cause. Daniel is very good at coming to visit and bring Karlie. She will be a year old the end of November.

Chickie - rain could be on the way - it wss here earlier and heading east!

My Giants made the playoffs - it is a even year, so we will be watching the game tomorrow night.

Well, time to get something done, besides laundry!
Enjoy,
Jana
