SUPPER CLUB - Sat, October 1st

Good morning!

We are dark and wet and cool here. But that's OK by me. Now I won't feel guilty about not doing any yard work today. Unless it dries out and warms up later. So I guess I'll be doing some laundry and a few uglies. And doing the bed sheets. But in between loads, we'll pop over to see Jim and take his dog along to visit. Jim was transferred late yesterday to a care facility. It's about 8 miles from the hospital, but only about 4 miles from me. Now he'll have to go by cabulance for his radiation. That will be hard on him. But he only has 9 more treatments to go. It is just to control the tumors enough to keep the pain down. It's not going to cure him. My sis is borrowing our car to drive to Seattle for the weekend to visit her son. This is through some of the worst driving conditions in the country, freeways, heavy traffic, interchanges, construction. She drives like a little old lady. I asked Bill is he was worried. He shrugged and said, 'the worst that can happen is we get a new car'. lol!! That's my Bill - always positive!

CAROL with an E - hey! Maybe you are on to something there! Maybe Chickie was drinking her breakfast yesterday and her brain got all discombobulated. It's the only thing I can think of . . .

JANA - I'm laughing at your grouchy Michael and his time of the month! And nice that Kate has such a good teacher close at hand. I hope she is appreciative of that. I think I must have learned a lot from my MIL, too, without even realizing it. Except for the time when she was tipsy when she put the Thanksgiving turkey in the oven and when it was done, she was mad at the grocery store for selling her an upside-down turkey! I learned a lesson that day but it wasn't about cooking!

IRISH - have a wonderful time. Sounds like you have Jim well-covered and he will be just fine. Please enjoy the wedding and all the family. And I know you will do brilliantly with your Irish blessing on the happy couple! And you're right about Chickie - she has really gone rogue here and I think I'll send some men with hairy arms to have a talk with her.

TINA - glad the land purchase is a done deal! Now the real work begins, doesn't it. Moving can be difficult in the best of circumstances. I hope it all goes smoothly for you. Sounds like your son's GF's dad was a real control freak. Small wonder his daughters left home ASAP!

VELDA - no, we have cancelled our travel plans for this winter. Sending my quilt fest tickets back today for a refund. There is no other family here for Jim & Terry. and even if there were, I wouldn't leave now. We're taking each day as it comes and thankful for it! But one year, we'll meet up with you down there in Texas-land.

CAROL without an E - glad to hear your test went well. So sorry to hear of your SIL's brother's newest health problems. And if I remember correctly, he is still pretty young, isn't he? Praying for him. There's always enough prayers to go around! I was just hearing yesterday of another person here who, this past week, wouldn't wake up after a medically induced coma. Doctors were very worried about him. The son went into his room and clapped his hands and called, "Dad! DAD!! FISH ON!!!" And darned if that didn't snap Dad out of it!! He is an avid fisherman.

CHICKIE - you have been chastised enough for your fishy behavior. You may come back now.

BECCA - I believe you are home and recovering from your surgery by now. Prayers for complete and uneventful recovery! And I know between your DD and all the goodies you prepared ahead of time, you are probably eating well!

Last night we had baked chix, scalloped potatoes, and asparagus. Tonight will be leftovers. My sis will be gone so it will just be B and Me. I think a simple reheat will work, adding a new veggie. Perhaps a salad.

You know, it's at this point that I always picture that hand clanging the dinner triangle at the beginning of every episode of The Real McCoys. Anybody else recall that?

O.K. I'm back! I'm not sure I even feel your chastisement... I've always been the rebel... but... they were yummy!!! LOL!!! You would have liked last night better... sedate strip steaks with baked potato for DH. Here again is the rebel... I had fried tofu, baked potato and an artichoke. All will be repeated tonight.

Whatever will I do... the guys from Florida promise they will stock us up with lots of lovely ocean produce when they return for hunting later this month. I guess I'm doomed to describe my lovely mac'n'cheese in all its savory goodness...

I just loved shocking everyone! LOL!!! One of my school rebel stories... my friend and I got kicked out of study hall for showing up with blue and green lips (our stick eyeshadows). Of course, it was exactly the results we wanted, so we went riding around until the next class. Now it wouldn't be shocking at all--I see the black, blue, green and all colors on lips any more. We were just waaaay ahead of our time!

Irish--your cookies sound delicious! Have a wonderful weekend--I hope that Jim will enjoy his as well. I'm sure he will be well treated and enjoy his "spa" weekend.

Mary--so.... FISH can be life-saving!!! Hummmm? (Grin!)
I always cook my turkey "upside down"... breast down so it stays juicier. MIL always had a potent punch out for imbibing before Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. I'm sure there were some tipsy cooks at times. Funny memories!
I'm sorry about your trip cancel, but I know you wouldn't be able to enjoy it if you went. How neat that Autumn got to visit you earlier this year since you won't be down there for awhile. Things happen for a reason in that case.

Mom and my sister both loved the quilting and binding on the dog's quilt. I received a text with a picture of Garmin proudly sitting on the ottoman on his new quilt. Today I'm binding the quilt Mom made and had quilted at the LQS. It's for a grand niece. I think her next project will be a quilt using the same pattern for her youngest sister, my aunt. I told her I'd quilt and bind it for her. I'm so glad to see her making this for my aunt, as they had been estranged for a couple of years some time ago. My aunt is very special to me, as she was like a big sister when I was a kid.

Good afternoon!

Break between sessions of conference. I need a goodie, so will stir up a batch of rice krispy treats. They are so hard! LOL

Chickie - oh i would make so much room in my freezer for the fresh rebel food coming soon. That is something we miss here now. I was best friends with the Dean's daughter, so we got away with alot too.

Mary - sorry you had to cancel your plans this winter, but being there to lend support will give you many blessings in return. We may have a ton of snow here, that you would have to drive through to get home if you left.

Dinner will be probably pizza tonight. May even get inspired to make it from scratch.

Good Afternoon Everyone!
Lots of resting going on around here today. We had our portrait done this morning for our parish directory. We ordered Christmas Cards too!

Tonight's supper will be Fast Hash. I am still trying to take it easy with eating.

Maryz - So nice you can take the dog to visit Jim. I am sure he will enjoy it. Your dinner sounds yummy!

Jana - I am looking forward to some cooler weather so I feel like baking. It is still in the mid 80's here today.

Chickie - I never would have guessed you had been a rebel!

Irish and Becca - I am thinking of you both!
