SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, June 30

Post by purrfect-lady » Thu Jun 30, 2016 6:43 am

Good Morning!

Yesterday turned into a productive day! I got in my 2-mile walk, and since my DS and BIL left for the day, I cleaned two flowerbeds, did two loads of wash, made 4 batches of raspberry jam, finished my animal swap blocks, and had dinner ready to go by 4:30. Felt good to do some real work after lolly-gagging for the past month! Sis will be gone for a while this morning, so I hope to do another load of clothes and another flowerbed.

CAROL - loved your message to me yesterday in your post. Can't find a thing to disagree with! haha!!

IRISH - I agree with Becca, all the family needs to know just what is going on with Jim. Because you will be needing help eventually, and they also need to know for their own medical history. You might invite Jim's brother for a visit so he can see for himself. It's tough to accept.

JANA - so nice of you to provide a meal for another family in need! If I'm ever in need, I'm partial to mac & cheese, you know. The REAL mac and cheese.

TINA - how are your folks? I know you probably get tired of people asking, but we do care. You inspired me yesterday to get busy and get things done! I'm waiting for the ibruprofen to kick in before sending my thanks for that inspiration.

BECCA - Glad you got your errands done early. Now you can sit back and enjoy the holiday weekend - off the road!

CHICKIE - I know your days are happy ones this week, no matter what you are doing! Didn't I see Doyal once holding a lawn rake over a fire that had several hot dogs threaded on it? That's sort of cooking. Or was that a dream I had? Or a dream you had??

I think tonite we'll grill burgers. I'm not sure about side dishes. Maybe mac & cheese . . . . And I think I'd rather make buns than go to the store for some, so I guess that's also on my agenda. Or maybe a tossed salad. Depends what's in the fridge, I guess. Or baked beans. Or a pasta salad? I can't make potato salad because we dissed my sister's potato salad last night because it was a week old. I'm not crazy about week-old anything, but especially mayo dishes that have been kept in an RV fridge which aren't quite as efficient as residential models. In 80+ degree temps. JANA, would your Sarah agree? If not, I owe my sister an apology.

I hope to get a few blocks made for TINA'S PFTH today and send them with my swap blocks. I have fabrics pulled but since it's taken me 2 hours to get this posted, it might not happen. My day is burning.

Mary You did get a lot done yesterday.Always lots to do when you get back off vacation and you have company too.

Tina We do care & I think of you a lot.Maybe because I took care of my Mom & Dad a lot & DH has been low for several years,You learn to go with the flow & make the best of what you have.Hugs to you.

Irish Hoping today is better for you & Jim.

Chickie Know you are a happy camper.Enjoy her.

DH has been having a really tough week. And to cap it off he got stung by 2 wasps on Tues. His hand & arm looks strutted. So swollen. But on to better things.I got my meat all packaged for freezer. And yard mowed. And my walk in too. That helps me to get out in Gods creation. But still have to cook.
Cut up some chicken for stir fri. Also making sweet potato fries.Kale & I made some brownies. Becca

Sorry about needing ibuprofen Mary, I can only take tylenol....it is the only thing that plays nice with my BP meds. I don't get tired off anyone asking how mom and dad are : ) it makes me feel less alone. Mom had a liver ultrasound on Tuesday, it'll be a week or more till results, Dad is getting his results from his stress test today : ) I'll let you all know what they say : ) I try not to keep any food past 3 days.....just saying Lol
Irish, it's got to be so hard on you....I ditto what Mary said.

I think we might have burgers on the grill. Tomorrow we're going to Mom and Dads.
Tina

Becca, thank you. I hope your DH is OK, I've been stung by bees but never a wasp, ouch I would think even more painful.

I changed my mind about supper, we're having chilli rellenos :);

Good afternoon!

Mary - yes, Sarah would have said to toss that food. I am like Tina, anything over three days, if not eaten that last day, gets the hot foot to the trash. My youngest DDIL is still learning about taking care of food and how fast it gets put away. The other day, they left out the lasagna overnight, and were going to eat it anyway - not on my watch - so I am teaching her about food safety.

Tina - glad to help not feeling alone - we that are older, have been through parents ahead of you and are here to listen anytime!

Becca - ouch! Stings are so painful. Sarah is allegeric to bee stings, so we are very careful and when you could still buy Benadryl, we would apply it to the sting area directly.

Dinner is just the two of us tonight - the kids are serving dinner to the participants of the Wheelchair Olympics that are being held here in SLC this week-end. So I have no idea what we will eat or even if I am going to cook!

Aaron's chicken came out really nice last night. That too much cumin in the mix wasn't all that bad. We have a plan in our heads to make another batch and just add part of this batch to tone down the cumin. He grilled the chicken breasts and then to hold them hot, he placed them in a foil pan with some melted butter. Oh, the sauce was delish! He learned this trick from a pitmaster at work that has won several National BBQ Championships. So we are off to a good start at creating our rub. He wants more heat - spice- I told him that it was perfect - so we will see it cooler heads prevail! LOL

Enjoy!
Jana
