SUPPER CLUB - Saturday, May 7th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sat May 07, 2016 2:23 am

Good Morning!

Our lunch yesterday was so fun! and the food was pretty special, too. We started with a white borscht, which I think was a potato soup with keilbasa slices in it. Garnished with 1/4 boiled egg and some parsley sprinkles. It had a dijon flavor to it. Alec said he would get the recipe for me. Then came cabbage rolls and dilled mashed potatoes. LOVED the mashed potatoes. Never thought of putting dill in them before. After that was salad - a carrot/rhubarb combination with a thin unknown dressing, and formed in a ramekin and plated. That wasn't my favorite but I muscled through it. Dessert was poppy seed pastry. There was also sourdough rye bread. Alec was chef for the day and he made the cabbage rolls himself, but other students made what he told them to make. We got a tour of the kitchen afterward and got to meet his teachers. A bright spot for me was when they thought I was his mother! I pulled up my 44 yr old DD and said, 'No, I'm HER mother, but thanks!" lol!

IRISH - oh, don't remind me about wills! I really want to re-do mine but keep procrastinating. I think an Irish chain will be purrfect for a wedding quilt in your family! In green and white? I need to do a wedding quilt soon, too.

CHICKIE - I love your Hooligans stories, even just when you are walking to Ava's. We saw a news story last night about a dog named Boomer. Of course, I thought of "our" Boomer!

BECCA - So happy the kids found a house! And they want to paint before moving in? And the baby is due in 4 days? How far is the new house from the new parents?

JANA - your little sidekick always brightens your day! and ours! Hope your weather goes easy on your today.

HELEN - so nice of you to drop in and have 'supper' with us!

CAROL - my DB and SIL just set up a trust and redid their wills. One important thing detail - older folks need to use an attorney who specializes in Elder Law.

Last night we ended up with BLT's and cottage cheese for supper. Tonite I'm going to have more of a plan. Probably burgers and potatoes on the grill. It's going to be close to 80* today so we'll be out on the deck. We even move a TV out there and spend the evening. The 'kids' like that. Unless a neighbor decides to mow. Not so pleasant then.

Do you have a supper plan yet?

Good early afternoon from sunny, sunny, pleasant SW. Pa....We're having a gorgeous day and sadly, I'm kind of stuck inside.....

Mary, you must be so darn proud of that grand son...Won't be long and we'll be reading about him or seeing him as host on 1 of those cooking shows....And what a compliment and you should have introduced your DD as your sister....Years ago, I went to some sort of science fair with our young Jim and one of the teachers asked if I was his girlfriend...Many, many years ago, lol.....

Well, I never made it to the attorney, he had a family emergency and had to cancel, so now I have a couple more days to think about it....I sure want to be fair with the kids, making sure each one gets their $1.95...I think the main thing is getting the POA and seeing about putting the kids names on our property and all that good stuff....Hate it!
Did have a very pleasant surprise yesterday...Kathy and DH, Tim, sent me a nice big box of Harry and David's stuff...Those pears, apples, cheese, crackers and lots of other good stuff...AND in a separate box, a nice big box of Chocolate Truffles....These are to die for!

Becca, I'm sure those kids are so excited....New baby, new house, what could be better.....You must also be feeling better knowing they will be getting settled....

As I said, I'm stuck inside, cleaning...We're having breakfast/brunch here and 2 of the girls are allergic to cats (1 more than the other) so I'm cleaning, sweeping and even scrubbing rugs, hoping it helps....And then Dan's girl friend can only eat gluten free....But, I am so excited to have them all, I'll do anything and cook whatever to make them comfortable....Might even make some mimosas.....

Jim gave me a scare last night..He was changing the bandage on his arm and it stuck and of course started bleeding...I didn't know if it was the skin graft or the gauze so we had to call Regis....He didn't seem too concerned, said to soak it good with vasoline and to keep it covered......We see him bright and early Monday morning....

As far as our dinner, I might not have time, lol....But, I do have to run to the store so knowing my car, I'm sure we'll bring something home..........And who knows, if after all my cleaning, if I still have enough energy to pour, I might start on those mimosas tonight......

Gotta go, break is over.............

Happy eating..............

Hello all, really nice sunny breezy day here.70 after a chilly wk.There was snow close to us Thurs, northern Mtns.

Maryz What a treat ,all that food & then to get complimented about your age.Guess it was a banner day.Know you are proud of DGS.

Irish Sounds like you are getting everything spiffed up for the guests. That is one way to get the house cleaned I say, invite company.lol Yes it is a very busy & stressful time for Denise & Mark. She said this morning she has been grandmother nesting, cleaning & doing laundry everyday trying to stay ready & get ready to move too. They are lining up painters & workers.

Today was the day for our quilt show in our town.DH went as he had to do errand. He sat on bench in front of a restaurant a friend owns. And it worked out that friends we knew come along & visited with him. Until I got back. Was a wonderful show & found a booth with bolts of great fabric for 4 .oo A yard.I was so happy as I didn't expect to see that. There had never been anyone selling fabric before.I helped the economy.

Then we ate lunch at the new Resturant downtown. Our DGDs SIL owns it.Was quite tasty. They had chicken n dumpling soup which I tried.DH had roast beef & Peanut butter pie. They were having a cake contest & you could choose any kind you liked.I tried the fresh apple.Very tasty.
So when we came home I told DH that was my Mothers Day present. It was such a treat to get out & see so many beautiful quilts & other handwork & run into so many friends.
A Big Happy Mothers Day to all. Hugs to all Becca

Happy Mother's Day, to you all! Sorry I doubled with you this morning, Maryz. Didn't see that happen.

Was treated for breakfast this morning, so I kinda rushed through my visit.

For dinner tonight, my son (where we are camped) is doing Bubba Burgers on the grill. He said they are AWESOME!! What a nice treat!

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Hi Everyone!
We really did eat dinner earlier. We had meatloaf, potatoes, salad and green peas with caramel ice cream for afters.

It was a busy day here. Grocery shopping is done, so is the laundry. Tomorrow I will clean after I get some exercise..

Irish - Hope your house is sparkling clean. You sound so excited!! It is good to be you for sure.

Becca - So glad you had a day out! It sounds like such fun. It is good to be you too!

Vel - Sounds like you are being treated well and enjoying every minute of it.

Maryz - Sounds like you had a wonderful time at lunch yesterday.

Everyone sounds so excited and happy! I wish you all a very happy Mother's Day.

Carol
