SUPPER CLUB - Sat, Jan 2nd

Post by purrfect-lady » Sat Jan 02, 2016 3:24 am

Good Morning!

It's a brrrrryyy morning here - 26* but it's been dry all week so I'm happy!

Bill got about 1-1/2 cords worth of nice fir rounds yesterday, but most of them were cut too long for our stove so he took them to my brother's. They were VERY happy as wood is their only heat source. Today we'll split the little we kept and then take the splitter back to my brother. Their son is visiting this week so there will be a strong young back to help there. So we are back to splitting/stacking, but now we have to go to my brother's to do it! Oh well, my muscles are finally getting used to work once again.

I got all the Christmas stuff put away, but still have some fallout cleaning to do. But I am 95% finished with all that! If there's a little bit of time left in my day I'd love to get in the sewing room and make some Valentine lotto blocks. Just wish they'd have the Valentine lotto in Nov or even Dec so we could have finished projects by February. But I suppose no one's in the mood to sew hearts at Thanksgiving.

BECCA - isn't pork included in that list of things to eat on New Year's because a pig is the only animal that roots forward? I'm so sorry for your friend's diagnosis. Waiting for those test results must be agony for them. I will shoot a prayer up for your friend!

CAROL 7 - thanks so much for sharing your soup recipe! My DH loves almost any kind of soup as long as it's homemade (except turkey!) That's a funny story about your mom's soup! I'm betting, though, that her daughter does a much better job of it!!

TINA - is it Zoupa Toscana you want to make? And I agree! I'm not so happy about the way I'm spending the first days of this New Year either! and yesterday, since Bill was gone getting MORE wood, I worked even harder taking down all the Christmas stuff and cleaning pantry, cupboards, linen closet, and crawl space under the stairs.

JANA - I bet that extra 1000 feet makes a big difference in the weather! I have read about Lake Bonneville. It fascinates me. Makes the Great Salt Lake look like a puddle!

IRISH - dang! I read your post about relaxing a day too late! But look at you! Lounging in a bubble bath at midnight! You've really got it going on, girl!! I would fall asleep and drown myself for sure!

LADY CAROL - Is biscuits and gravy difficult to figure out? Lol! that's right - biscuits over there are what we call cookies, aren't they? You're probably wondering why we'd pour beef gravy over our sweets! Happy New Year to you, too!

CHICKIE - are those ancho peppers hot or are just the seeds hot? I love chilies and jalepenos but I remove about 75% of the seeds and it's just the right heat for us.

I am getting tired of reheated pork, so I think I'll use some in shredded BBQ sandwiches. We can have salad to go with. Tomorrow I can make either a pot pie or pozole (pork and hominy soup). Any left after that gets diced and frozen.

So, how's your supper plan working out for tonite?

Mary--I changed my mind. They were mild pobla no peppers... the big, shiny dark green ones. Dinner was actually quite yummy, despite my improvised chile's relents recipe. DH even ate a whole one--pepper and all!

Tonight I am going to make him a grilled KC strip steak with baked sweet potatoes and salad.

I am In town to meet my friend for coffee and visit Mom.

I will check back here when I get back home...

Good afternoon from overcast and chilly, SW. Pa....But, it's a good day to stay inside and "weed".....And that's just what I'm doing...I haven't taken down all the Christmas stuff but going through the house, grabbing things and then sorting...When I drag out the bins, then I'll decide what's being kept and what's leaving....(Jim better watch his step, when I'm in this mood, lol).....

Mary, you keep working like that, you'll be getting hired on as a lumber jack or whatever they are called...I'm just not into that "manual labor"...Always thought that's why we had 4 boys and now lots of grandsons, lol.....

Carol7, I did have a chuckle about your Mom's soup...But, I can remember Jim's Mom making bean soup and Jim's Dad using the ketchup...We'll have to wait and see what Jim does.....

Lady Carol, really didn't catch the cookies and the biscuits but can see why you'd wonder....Sure hope your weather settles down...And of course the best of the New Year to you and your family.....

Becca, Glad to hear someone is having some sunshine...Sure makes a better day if you get just a little ray....I'm also a big soup fan and really don't care for the cans...Our breakfast buddies laugh at me when I order a bowl of veggie soup for breakfast....

As I said, I'm weeding and it could take days...I'm finding things I had forgotten we even had, now that's bad!

For our dinner, we're having new food....Tonight will be from the box....Coconut-crusted chicken fingers, garlic green beans and spiced sweet potato fries...Hope it tastes as good as it looks in the picture......
There is a little not from this company...Eat the rainbow, notice the colors of fruits and veggies versus pasta and cookies..And walk the perimeter of the market...Fresh foods are kept on the outside aisles, packaged foods are usually stored in the middle aisles......

Happy eating...............

Good afternoon,

Michael is off for his walk at the rec center. Warm and no ice to walk on. I have my shopping list written out, so after the Ward Bulletin is done, we will head off to the store. I will have to make more trips to get groceries as the fresh items turn quite often here. Not what I am used to in California, where I was spoiled with all the fresh, any time of the year.

Dinner tonight here will be pork chops with a mushroom bleu cheese sauce. Salad and bread rolls.

Still very cold outside. It will be next week when our high is above freezing.

Ethan's party was fun last night. We had cupcakes decorated with characters from Inside Out. His latest movie obsession. He is so much fun!

Time to get going,
Enjoy,
Jana

I'm finally making it here, the soup was put off till today because we went and watched Star Wars and it was Awesome!!!!! Now I'm in the mood to watch all the old and older ones LOL, we took Jaz with us too, she turns and says "Gramma, I've never been a Star Wars fan but after watching this one I am" LOL I asked her what she didn't like about the others and she tells me she's never watched them, goofy girl.
My soup is on and I've already tasted the broth and it's yummy!

My silly phone! It kept re-posting my POBLANO peppers into whatever it is that it wrote!

I had a good day. Went to the LQS this afternoon on my long way home and got my BOM and thread for my ISBS. Got some sewing, but had an adventure with DH...

Only Tinker Bell was home when I returned from my morning. Soon Odia came running in--quite wet and muddy. Then... DH and Boomer came in. DH had walked from across the pastures where he had gotten his UTV stuck when it slid of his icy cattle guard. I changed into "dirty" clothes, and we went (with all the dogs) in his truck to pull it out. The 4WD decided not to work, so all he did was get the truck almost stuck in the mud. He drove the truck back to get his tractor while the dogs and I had a walk around looking at bird tracks in the snow and the dogs tried to harass a pack rat's nest--guess they thought they could scare it out, but it was smarter than they were. DH brought the tractor, pulled me out with the UTV, and I drove it home while he brought the tractor back. Always an adventure here...

It really was a pretty day--in the 40s, but SUNNY. For me that felt like 60+!!! I enjoyed being out in the sun.

DH got his steak for dinner. My sister gave me a couple of pieces of fig cake she had made. It was delicious!!! She got the mix at World Market.

Hi Everyone,
I am late. DH and I went out to supper. It was delicious and best of all no clean-up afterwards!!

Becca - It sounds cold where you are! We are chilly at 61* here today, but expecting rain on Monday!! Can't wait!

Chickie - Hope you enjoyed visiting friends today!

Irish - Catsup in soup too? I thought we were the only weird family that did that! Martha Stewart explained that soup tastes better with a little acid at the end, be it lemon juice, tomatoes, or vinegar (or catsup). Glad I gave you a chuckle!

Jana - Have you tried Debbie Meyer "EvertFresh Green Bags" (Not a misspelling). I bought them at Bed, Bath and Beyond. They really do keep produce fresh longer. You might look for them.

Tina - Hope you enjoyed the soup.

Maryz - I hope you are resting or sewing this evening. You have earned it!

Today we removed the Christmas decorations from the house including the Christmas Tree. I made a Target run for a couple of new bins to put all the fabric stuff in. I have definitely accumulated too much stuff! Then I cleaned the house. It looks much better although I did not quite finish cleaning. Tomorrow is another day.

Hope all had a wonderful day!
Carol

Oh Chickie,

That sounds like what happened to Michael and his dad. His mom drove over to a neighbor's house, got her car stuck at the bottom of the drive, so DH and his Dad drove the big Ford truck over to pull it out, it got stuck, so they walked back and got the tractor to rescue both vehicles, all in a blizzard and 10 below zero weather!

The adventures of living in the country!

Jana
