SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, July 3rd
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ELEANOR AND TO CHRISS TODAY! Two very sweet and loving quilters!
IRISH - so sorry to hear that Chris is back in the hospital. What a nightmare this has all been for your family. But God has been pulling you all through. Though it probably feels like He's been pulling you through a knothole - backwards! I'm anxious to see what the doc says about Jim's 'funny tummy'.
BECCA - are you having any effects from "Arthur"? I haven't heard from my in-laws near Charlotte.
JANA - it does take some space to grow good corn. Since my parents raised it in 2 huge fields, we had it every night for dinner all season long. Mom would set the water boiling and then go pick it. She also added a pinch of sugar to the water to enhance the sweetness. Now I always add it even to storebought frozen corn,.
CAROL - how sweet to give your DGD your pain machine. Is it anything like Cindy's "dreadmill?"
CHICKIE - do you have a veggie garden? If so, where is it?
Well, I don't know what's going to happen with supper tonite. We'll be camping. And the other four rigs will roll in throughout the day. I'm sure it will probably be something very quick and easy like canned chili over baked or boiled potatoes. Though I have enough pasta salad leftover for two of us . . . Maybe we'll get out our grill and do burgers.
Tomorrow, we are having a big group BBQ and the guys are all cooking in their dutch ovens. Bill will be making chicken in plum sauce over rice.
Have a wonderful Independence Day celebration, everyone!

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, July 3rd
Good morning! We don't have a lot of garden--the corn comes from DS1's place and also his boss has a couple of acres of sweet corn that we get to pick what we want as well. We have tomatoes all over the place. DH bought a flat of what was supposed to be 18 tomato plants at the Amish auction, and it turned out to be 38. We have tomato plants in buckets (3), barrels (3), and in several plots in the yard. We also gave away a bunch of plants. All have blooms and most have little green tomatoes. Doesn't look like we are getting tomatoes by the 4th of July, but it will be next week. We also have six plants that I had purchased. I have 6 green pepper plants, and we have blackberries and raspberries. DH also planted loads of watermelon and canteloupe and pie pumpkins.
We have some garden outside my sewing room windows, some off to the north and west of the garage (kind of front side)--also planted our fruit trees there, and then we had a lot of blackberry brambles to the east of the pond behind the house. DH tilled a large swath through them, and that is the watermelon, cantaloupe and pumpkins area along with lots of blackberries on both sides. He also has pumpkins where he planted the tame blackberries over by the fruit trees where there are also tomatoes and my cutting garden of gladiolus that I take to Mom.
You need to come back and see all the progress we've made! If we have pumpkins, watermelons and cantaloupes loke the plants and blooms predict, we will have oodles. DH wants to have enough to eat ourselves silly and give away to anyone who wants them.
We also have asparagus outside my sewing room windows and in one of my wildflower gardens. It looks pretty and lacy above the flowers.
For everything else, we raid DS3's garden. I'm hoping to get potatoes, more peppers, kale and whatever else he will share...
In answer to your question... yes, we have some garden, and it's all over the place!
I cooked some beef over night, and I'll shred it and make BBQ beef sandwiches--enough to last several days. I'll take some in to Mom. We are mowing a yard in town today at a rental, and I'll take Mom a bouquet of gladiolus and some BBQ.
We are going to my late DH's brother's big family picnic tomorrow at noon, and I'm taking a pot of corn on the cob. We'll hit the "pond party" at DS2's pond for supper. I'm not sure what I'll take for it. And, we will probably go to town and check on Mom and watch the fireworks at the park before coming home.
Happy 4th to all! Carol--I guess you from the Mother Country don't celebrate the 4th in quite the same manner as the upstart Colonials do...

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, July 3rd
Good morning from slightly overcast, warm, SW. Pa...Just not sure if we'll get rain or what....I don't think we'll see any of Arthur but you never know.....I do feel bad for those who have planned their beach vacations this week and will be evacuated....One year, Kathy had to evacuate during her vacation...Oh well, I'll stay home where it's safe....
Our garden isn't doing that great...We do have scads of tomatoes but nothing near turning...Usually neighbor, Ted, starts his seeds in the middle of winter and then brings Jim some plants...Each year, he tries to start a new type of tomato and we've had our share of "odd" ones...So far, just looking at some of the plants, we do have some cherry (which I don't care for) and a few plum, which I love..One year, he gave us a plant that had little tomatoes that tasted like strawberries and you could actually make a pie with them...Give me the old fashioned, red, tomato and I'm happy....I haven't planted corn in years...AND I forgot to plant pumpkins...Usually do them on the edge of the flower bed and then they just take off through the yard...No pumpkins for the neighborhood kids this year, darn....
Mary, I'm sure no matter what you have to eat, it will be super...I did kind of mention to Jim, after bingo today, he needs to go for blood work and THEN we're stopping somewhere to eat...I don't care if it's a hole in the wall or carry out, but I'm not cooking.....
Happy eating...............

Good morning,
Have a fun time camping, Mary. Us little mice will behave - tee-hee!
Dinner is soup or what ever is soft to eat. I have a very bad tooth and heading off to the dentist in a little while. He can't treat it today, but will relieve the pain and get a antibiotic going. Tooth -1 Jana -0 lost that battle!
Enjoy,
Jana

Good Evening All.....another lovely day but its getting cooler.....just hoping we haven't had our summer these last few days.......bit later on here today....it was my Afternoon Club and that makes everything that much later than normal.....we had a lovely speaker talking about her "Secret Garden" and her cottage.....WOW....the COTTAGE was a very large Black and White House with a Thatched Roof sitting in 2 acres of land....I think we were all agog.....2 acres of land over here is a LOT of ground....most of us have not more than postage stamp gardens....but her garden(s) were wonderful....the plants....the shrubs....the trees....oh my....but it has certainly given us some good ideas......then of course....Afternoon Tea.....again a lovely treat....those Strawberry and Cream Scones aaaahhhh.....
MARRYz.....not sure what Cindys "dreadmill" is.....this pain machine is hand held with a detachable thingy that vibrates around the pain area.....hopefully its going to help Emma
must go its telly time.....Carol
