Good morning Lois and those that follow.
It has rained, thundered, and lightening all night. And now in the news they are talking about swift water rescues. This morning hubby has to go to the orthopedic dr for a check up on his knees and hips. They all have been replaced but still has some pain. I hate going out in the rain. Such a baby right? After he goes to work I am heading out to my studio and work on the Quilts of Honor quilt. Have a great day everyone.

good morning all...
Karlene...sorry your basement is into overtime.. in the late 1800's in the next town over from me ( Hornitos, CA) the Masonic lodge had a building without a basement.. they wanted a basement so my great grandmothers brother offered to dig it out if he could keep the dirt.. they agreed.. he dug it out and sifted the dirt and made a lot of money in gold...they formed the walls and poured the cement but it wouldn't dry... they had to cut rectangle holes in the newly poured cement to let air in, then then cement dried...and the building is still there today.. hope you find recipe's you like...
Jana.. I bet that little grin looking at you and saying oh wow is adorable...
Scrappy Pat.. no more step stools for you..hope your hand heals quickly...
Maryq.. sorry Ann has to let the cabin go but something new will come up... sounds like a busy packing weekend for you...I love red but am not sure I want a red wall.. even though there are a zillion color possibilities there really are only a few acceptable colors...lol...hope work goes quickly...
Izzy.. I can send Jerry over there for painting but he has to finish up for me first... there are a few ahead of you but you are on the list....glad your mom liked the quilt....it really is beautiful..
Jana, glad you found the curtain fabric... sorry about Cali Son and his elbow.. will he ever move to Utah?
MaryRose, what's going on... why are you crying? hugs and prayers for you my friend...
Chickie.. corn is a wonderful thing.. one of my fav meals is fresh corn and fresh tomatoes.. I could eat that combo forever...
Lois.. glad you're up to bat.. enjoy the grands.. how fun to be you.
Suzette, happy sewing.. hope DH's appt goes well
Cindyg.. how is everything?
my plan... is to come home from work and sew.. I had to re-do my Christmas swap blocks because they didn't come out very well... I am going to re-do them all... thanfully I already washed the fabric so I need to only cut and sew... then I can start on my calendar blocks.. thankfully there are only 12 of them so they should go quickly..
hope you all have a marvelous day

Good Morning Ladies. It is bright sunny and cool..we are in the low 60s. I am heading down to open all the windows. and turn the fans on...so good to get fresh air in the house. Might head out to the flowerbeds if I can find them. have more weeds than flowers right now. Daylillies are blooming have some that need dividing this fall. Some need to move to a sunnier location too. Irises and lilly of the valley too. it is going to take me the rest of the summer to do the side of the house, 40 feet of weeds right n ow.
I took the quilt to show and tell last night and it was a big hit,,,there were only 2 of us that brought last night, we had a lecture by Sue Hopkins, She wrote several books and does some exquisit machine quilting on her Bernina home machine, Won a couple of best of shows at Paducah.
I have clASS on Monday and need to get that material ready....and must run and get kitty food and a few groceries. My organic order comes today and I have fresh lettuce and kale from the garden. there is garlic and onions ready out there too......we got 2 cucumbers and some green beans, love the fresh stuff....so it might be vegetarian supper tonight, I know it will be for me.
Hope you all have a great day....XXXOOO

Good Morning!
LOIS - glad you explained BJ's! I thought it was a restaurant! What't is an externship? How does it differ from an internship?
SUZ - your poor DH. Hope the orthopedist can help him today.
CHRISS - sorry about your Christmas swap blocks. the elf hats, right? Well, at least you got the hard part done - the fabric is washed! Our kitchen is red. Bill was VERY skeptical at first, but once the paint went on, he really liked it! Great story about your great-uncle! I don't suppose any of that gold filtered down the family line to my bestie, Chriss, did it?
JUDI - congrats on the quilt! It really is beautiful. Does your kitty wake you up in the morning to serve breakfast? Mine starts tapping my face. If I don't move fast enough, the claws come out. then she climbs on my chest and gets her face about 1" from mine and STARES me awake. People often marvel that I get up so early by choice. In reality I get up by cat!
Today is going to be an UGHly day for me - laundry, vac'g, mopping, dusting, bathrooms, etc. The whole enchilada. Because our enchilada is in serious need of some attention. I hope to have some time to sew the binding on my son's Christmas quilt, too. I finished the label last night so it's ready to go!
Enjoy your Friday!

Chriss - that is a great story about digging out the basement and keeping the dirt! Down under the sanctuary part of the church is a rock/dirt crawlspace - they cleared out just enough dirt to get the foundation in. It is a pretty uninviting place (and I doubt there is any gold in it!), but has been that way since the 1800's. The basement remodel is under the back edition to the sanctuary. I'm not sure when the original back was added, but they did a major remodel in the early 70's that is our present basement that is being remodeled. It was all done by members volunteering - none of who were contractors. There are cut up railroad ties stuck in at the top of the block foundation, support poles missing, and a strange octagon shape that has been patched into the ceiling - or the floor of the upstairs. Looking at that patch from below, it looks like if someone stood directly over that spot, that it would fall in!

Re: Friday July 12,2013
My plan to have my quilt done by Sunday is faulty. I forgot to factor in the pain factor. I got 1/2 of one corner done! But this morning I am again having trouble moving my neck and shoulders
So I will just go slow. It WILL get done, just not when I wanted.
Tia was here yesterday and we discussed diaper inserts, me making them for her. She has a kind that she really likes and I asked to her leave one here. I ordered 1 yard of the organic fabric she would like to have them made out of and I'm going to give it a go. Really can it be that hard? It's a square piece of fabric folded and sewn on the edges. I just wished I could serge them but I don't have nor ever used a serger. I'll just overcast the edges.
Caleb is very anxious about this test he is taking. He keeps coming to me and asking questions about it. I hope he can put his mind on something today so stop worrying. He is a good student and a wonderful test taker. I don't understand all this anxiety. I wish I could just stay home with him today but I'm off to my mother in laws.
Have a great day and keep looking up!

Good Sunny Morning from my own home!!
Part of me is so happy to be here. I've been so tired this last month I thought I'd sleep later than 8:30. But I'm up & need to get some food there are only condiments in the frig. I need to finish unpacking & settling in. I talked to DD1 twice & she was weepy & depressed. A stop at the LQS is in order. I had them quilt a lap size quilt for the friend that let me stay at here home for a month when Kim was really sick.
Lois....I'm so happy you grands are coming for a week. What fun you'll have!!
Suzette....I see your rain is headed in my direction. It looks like a nasty one.
Chriss....that is a very interesting story about the Masonic building.
Sorry you have to do so much resewing.
Judi....Mmmm sounds like wonderful weather...enjoy! That's a lot of weeding! I nee to work on my 2 tomato plants. They look leggy But there are some tomatoes.
Maryz....sorry about the uglies! Do go out for enchiladas tonight.
Karlene....sorry there was no gold or treasure under the church
Vicky...sorry you are in pain. Keeping Caleb in my prayers.
Off I go for now.....Love & Prayers.

Up early for job search, at this hotel, only customers are hotel guests, regulars not up yet! Weather: Skies ugly, before a storm, and kitten hid under lawn chair waiting for the downpour. He just loves the wind, that carries all the smells.. Hopefully, be home soon to work on my sewing (fun, fun). Borrow some $ for a delicious pizza and survive on potatoes and onions. Least we eat healthier.

Lois - you're going to vacuum BEFORE the kids come? I do the opposite - LOL. I know you will enjoy having them but, if you're anything like me, you will be so tired at the end.
Suzette - you aren't such a baby. I don't like going out in the rain either. Haven't had to worry about that in a long while as we haven't had any rain in a coons age. The other side of town got some - they are closer to the bay. But even there I noticed cracks in the dirt at the cemetery yesterday. I hope the doctor can do something for your DH.
Pat - hope your wrist is better soon. I hate to say it but a break is easier to heal than a sprain or torn ligaments, etc.
Chriss - today starts our new normal. The sorrow will ease in time. Don broke down a couple of times yesterday. Life won't be the same for him with his best friend gone. And I can tell already that I'm going to be making trips to Vicki's by myself. He won't go unless Vicki needs him to do something. It will be too painful. Speaking of Vicki and Ed - in their last house they painted the family room a deep, rich red and, with the white woodwork and built-ins and fireplace, it was very pretty.
Judi - do you have just one species of daylily or do you have a variety? We grow weeds in our flower beds better than plants. Gavin just pulled the weeds in the back bed and it is already overgrown with weeds. Glad your quilt was a big hit last night.
Maryz - whew, that's too much uglies in one day!!!! I'd be locking that cat out of the bedroom if it was waking me up before the butt-crack of dawn!!! LOL
Karlene - it must be scary to be in that basement thinking about it caving in. Eeeeeeek.
Vicky - what is a diaper insert? I can't wait to see that quilt but don't hurt yourself getting it done. Tell Caleb that we all know he'll do great on that SAT. How's the itching.
Ed's funeral yesterday was nice and Ed looked like he use to look. He's looked bad for several months. Still can't believe he's gone. Vicki held up very well - she was in a Jesus fog. Once all the company leaves and the new reality sets in the Jesus fog will lift. Today I'm back at work and afterwards we will get something to eat. I hope to sew this weekend. I need to clear out some of my projects so I think I'll work on the RV quilt top until it's done. At night my TV work will be the floral applique. Must do laundry this weekend. Darn those dirty clothes anyway!!!!
I hope we can all fondle fabric today.
