JULY Lotto Block - CHRISTMAS IN JULY - Double Sliced Layer Cake - CLOSED :) :)

Post by TeresaK » Wed Jun 26, 2013 9:56 pm

YES - TODAY IS THE DAY - Hand of the Picker chose the names of the LUCKY WINNERS and they are
Ruth (1st time winner!!) -- Valerie
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!! PICTURES PLEASE AS SOON AS YOU CAN :) :)

************************************************
Hello All!!!
It is time for our ANNUAL CHRISTMAS IN JULY BLOCK. I know what is coming up so I have decided to choose an EASY Block to give you a rest :) :) So PULL OUT YOUR CHRISTMAS FABRICS or it is TIME TO GO SHOPPING for some great sales now in your local stores or here at QIAD. Do not wait as they go fast!!!!
PLEASE READ ALL the following criteria and watch the video for EASY directions ... http://quiltingtutorials.com/all/double ... t-tutorial[/url]
*** WATCH THE PLACEMENT OF THE TWO HALF WHEN THEY ARE STITCHED TOGETHER. IT DOES MATTER WHEN SEWING ALL THE BLOCKS TOGETHER.
*** WARNING! If you are cutting your own 10" squares as I did, I suggest you make them LARGER! 10-1/4" or even 10-1/2". Even if you do a VERY scant 1/4" seam, they will still be right on the borderline of 9-1/2" when all sewn. I've done a lot of frogging on my blocks today. Of course, the good thing is that this is a pattern that you can always trim down to a 9-1/4" if necessary.

*** This DOES NOT have to be made with a Layer Cake. Please DO NOT buy a Layer Cake Package for this. To expensive unless you plan on making a quilt of your own using the leftovers. This can be made from scraps or yardage. 3.5" x 10" and 6.5" x 10". Just follow the video from there. Very Easy - Very Fast - Loads of FUN!!

* Sign-ups just give us an idea who wants to join. It is not a commitment as we all know life gets in the way.
* Block size: 9.5"+ unfinished blocks
* Please WASH all Fabrics especially the Red's
* Your blocks will be made with Christmas Print's and TOT's
*** If you want me to organize them between Traditional, Kids, Victorian then please make a set of each one so we have plenty of blocks for the winners.
*** NO WHITE's, NO SOLIDS, NO BLACK (lets keep this one full of color)
* NOVELTY is FABulous here but mix it with a nice contrast. Not to busy.
** If you use a fabric like Checks please cut the pattern STRAIGHT
** No Glitter but Metallics are OK as long as it does not overpower your block. Some fabrics just have TO MUCH - Gaudy, gaudy, gaudy.
* There is NO Wiggle room here so watch your scant 1/4" seams. I bought some 1/4" tape and my seams are so much better!!!
* PLEASE MEASURE TO SEE THAT YOUR BLOCKS ARE 9.5"+.
* DO NOT SQUARE THEM UP
* PLEASE "Name Tag" each block in the front corner as they will be separated. Mailing labels are great for this :) :)
* Please place ALL blocks in ONE LARGE BAGGIE
* Please SEND $2-$3 to help with shipping to WINNERS

WAYS to RECEIVE your WINNING tickets ...
* 1 ticket = Signups by 5th of JULY (no commitment obligation)
* 1 ticket = for 1st set of 4 blocks
* 2 tickets = for each set of 4 after the first four :)
* 2 tickets = if your blocks reach me by the 20th of July
* 1 ticket = if your blocks reach me by the end of the July
* 1 ticket = for Poetic bribes :)

WAYS to RECEIVE EXTRA TICKETS
* 5 tickets for both of you = if you asked a Pal who has never joined in the Lotto and she makes at lease a set of 4 blocks :)

This would make a great gift for your Secret Pal - coming soon :)
This block is like eating Lays Potato Chips. Once you make one you will not be able to stop. Fast - Easy - FUN :) :) :)

ENJOY and HAPPY STITCHIN'!!!! LET THE CELEBRATION BEGIN!!!

Sign me up!

Now I have to tell this story, I initially clicked on the thread thinking this has been pulled forward and I was going to see a wonderful quilt put together from out last DSLC! Took me a minute to figure out where all the postings might have went! Oh my, I am loosing it. So, I have figured out what month it is and that I need to sign up for next month!

Of course you know, Teresa, already, that I am IN!!!! I have to make sure that I don't miss any.

I just watched the video. This really does look like a fun quilt. One question, though, - do you want us to use all Christmas fabric, or
do we mix it up with checks, and other small patterns in the fabric along with Christmas fabric??

Might not need to buy as much fabric, if we are mixing it up with other small prints.

Jacquie Dear - YOUR BACK!!! and your blocks are FABULOUS!!!! I knew if I exercise patience and prayer you would find your way back home. Hope all is calming down in your life and YES can you believe it we will be Grandma Twins!!!!! Mine is due January 9th.

Ruth - Thrilled you are getting back into playing with Cotton. Glad I picked an easy block for you to get your feet wet and who knows you could win a whole quilt full of them!!!! I don't need any info from you right now. When you mail your blocks to me please Print your return address BIG :) :) I will PM you my address. WELCOME!!!!

Velda - Sorry for the delay in answering your question. You may use any fabrics that say "I am or can be a Christmas color" as in Red's, Green's, Gold's, Stars, Swirls, Small Polka Dots, CandyCanes, etc.
If you use plaids then please make them Greens, Reds, Golds. I trust your judgement :)

Debbie - I will miss you this month. If you do find the time feel free to jump in any time before the month is out :) :)
