help on fancy stitch
Need some help or advice.......I have an Elna Q6600...and I want to do the wiggly stitch Jules does on her quilts instead of SITD.....
I am using the foot for fancy stitches.....but I"m just getting birds nesting thread on the back......wasting a lot of thread and time...on frogging....any suggestions please....or give up and go back to SITD

Re: help on fancy stitch
You might need to play with the tensions on the machine - the presser foot - what holds the fabric in place may be too tight to feed through the machine at a nice even pace and a walking foot helps feed the fabric is a great tool to use too.
I would take and layer and make yourself a quilt sandwich to practice on with that stitch and then keep a notebook on all of the setting for your machine when you get it where you want.
I do that with all of my fancy stitches on my machine so I can duplicate what I have already done.
Goo luck!

could also be that your bobbin is too tightly wound.. or maybe too loosly wound.. try a different bobbin....

Thanks ladies......I did a sample piece.....and it was ok....when I started on the quilt....just a load of birds nest on the back....of course LOTS of naughty words were forthcoming.....after thinking I thought I would try with the walking foot instead of the foot for the fancy stitches....worked ok on my sample....going to try the quilt today.....did check tension....that was ok.
Chris....post a photo...if only....more challenged with that than quilting !!!!!

It all semms to be ok now.....have certainly learned a bit more about my machine....to change the tension....(me looking for a button) you press an arrow as you start sewing and that changes the tension....I did change to the walking foot and it certainly helps.
So thank you Jana and Chris......when theres a problem READ the istruction book........OR ask your friends at QIAD
