Good day to all,

I am hoping that some of you maybe able to guide me in deciding on a quilt pattern. My issueMy parents will celebrate their fifty wedding anniversary in November and I want to make them a quilt. I am torn between dong one that is a great pattern such as the Bargello I did a year ago or to make something that would be along the lines of a memory quilt. I am asking if you could maybe share your thoughts on which direction I should go with a choice of pattern.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience.

Jeff

Jeff, I can't help but think that it would be so neat to get a memory type quilt for such a momentous occasion. Maybe you could incorporate old photos of main events they have experienced during their 50 years together, using those fabric sheets you can photocopy on. Personally I would favor using old reproduction fabrics to frame them. My husband and I are celebrating 42 years next month and I sure wish I had a son or daughter that liked to quilt and would make one for me!
Guess I will have to do it myself! What a wonderful gift for them......any quilt will make them proud!

Why not combine the two ideas - pictures interspersed with the bargello pattern - that way you could use all different sizes of pictures in the quilt - I can see the beautiful colors that a bargello quilt makes and think it would be stunning.

Also, the label on the back could be a photo as well - you and your family!

Best of Luck

My parents recently celebrated their 50th.

I used the star block from Tennessee Waltz: 49 novelty fabrics for the center squares, dark blue for the star points, a lot of scrappy neutrals and all sorts of colors from stash for the corner four patches. Scrappy neutral sashing with dark cornerstones and border. (7 blocks across/7 blocks down; roughly full-size) Made a 50th star block for the label, with the center embroidered with the quilt information and the names, wedding date and occasion.

It was a real challenge and a lot of fun to locate all the novelty fabrics that reminded me of my parents - hobbies, sports, memories, pets...

Whatever you decide will be appreciated, I'm sure!
Have fun, and good luck!
