Ugly fabric swap - send info posted :)

Post by SQUEELQuilter » Fri Jun 10, 2011 11:41 am

I will partner everyone up and you will then send a piece of ugly fabric at least FQ - but no more than a yard.
When you receive your partner's "ugly" you can combine it with fabrics of your own to make something. (small scale - pot holders, apron, pillow, purse, etc).
When finished return your completed project to your partner.
If you are able - please post pictures of your before and after - it was great fun to see the amazing things people came up with.

Details:
Sign up by 7/29/11
Fabric to partners by 8/15/11
Please try to have your completed project back to your partner by 9/30/11.
**I don't really want to limit fabric but I think you need to send at least a Fat Quarter so your partner has something to work with - but no more than a yard - we don't want them to feel overwhelmed either.
This should be quick and fun project.**

If you are interested sign up below -
1.SQUEELquilter - send to Javin
2.Javin22 - send to Neonbrooch
3.Neonbrooch - send to Irishgram
4.Irishgram - send to Donnacrazylady
5.Donnacrazylady - send to Quilt4love
6.Quilt4lovesdone - send to Penny crazyquilternwv
7.crazyquilternwv (penny) - send to Squeelquilter.

OK - looks like it's only us but we can still try it out & have fun :)
I posted who to send your fabric to above - please pm your recipient to get their address details. I thought since we were an odd numbered group we wouldn't have "partners" but just send our pieces down the line. Please try to get your fabric send out before 8/15 so that the receiver has plenty of time to plan, make & return to you. Please let me know when you send & receive so I can update the post.
I am still trying to decide on which ugly to send but I'll try to post a pic when I find one.
Before & after pics are fun - so please post if you can.
Any questions of problems please let me know - Have fun :0)

Great idea but I can't right now. To many swaps going on and I want to be faithful to the ones I have joined and make sure I give them 100% making sure all my blocks measure no less than 12 1/2" :)

Have fun!!!

I have participated at the two ugly fabric swaps. I remembered that the hostess had made twin partners. We mailed the ugly fabric directly to our partner and not the hostess.

Same as Teresa, I have already three swaps that I have joined. :-)

Squeel

I remember that swap!!! I sent an ugly piece of fabric to someone... wish I could remember who.... and now I have a great tote bag that I use to take my lunch to work!

It's a wonderful idea and I would love to join if you get enough other gals interested.

When we did it before we just swapped with 1 partner.... but if you want to do it another way... feel free!

Tracy, great idea....I had been thinking of an ugly swap too..

I participated in two and hosted another... there were different amounts of fabric required for each one...

in one you sent a box full of fabric to someone else.. I think I sent about three yards in various sizes to the partner your hostess paired you with....you provided as much fabric as you wanted to provide....I received a trip around the world quilted table mat...

and the second was to send an ugly fat quarter to the partner your hostess paired you with.. that is when someone made me a bowl using clothes line cord wrapped with my fabric...

the third is the one where we sent one yard to our partner and I received an apron for me and one for Marilyn and a set of pot holders... Donnacrazylady added some cool fabric to mine.

in the FQ swap and the one yard swap you could add fabric from your stash to complete the project but I think there was a limit to how much you could add... these were great fun...

and I do believe this is the swap where Denise made the dalmation wall hanging.. it was amazing... and someone made the daisy fabric tote bag... oh, and SewCarolyn made a tote bag with sunbonnet sam putting on some boxer shorts because the fabric she received reminded her of boxer shorts..

on my first ugly swap I didn't want to part with my fabric so I purchased some from the clearance section on the QIAD website..

so what's the plan Tracy... how much fabric will be in this swap? and what is the time frame... I loved this swap... give me the details so I can work it in...I do have ugly fabric... it's just waiting for someone to play with it...

Sounds great ladies! I do agree that trading with partners would be easiest.
What do you think for sizes? My idea is to send your partner at least one FQ of "ugly" and they could then add to is as they wished - but I am completely open to other suggestions.
I'll go ahead and ask for signups and let's say deadline to sign up 6/30? I'll then swap names - one month to complete project and get it back to your partner?
Thanks for the support - how fun!

sign me up...

will the fabric amount be a fat quarter??? or is it going to be a yard? I would like to send my partner the same amount of fabric she is sending me...

and what will be the date to ship my fabric, then ship my finished project to my partner?

I am glad you're doing this Tracy....

Chris -
sorry to lose you - but I know how hectic life can get and I apreciate that you are honoring the obligations you already have.
Maybe next time :)
