star log cabin help!!

Post by tlcprn » Tue Mar 22, 2011 9:09 am

I'm hoping someone if familiar with this book/pattern and can help me. I've made my blocks, yes, using 1/4" seam allowances and 2" strips. The instructions say my finished block should be between 10 1/2" and 11", but mine are consistently 12 1/4-12 1/2"! HELP! I'm afraid to go on with the lattice for fear of messing it all up! Obviously I can't redo all of these blocks, I have extra fabric, I'm just worried, mostly about the "star" part! Any help would be SO appreciated!

I don't think you have to worry about the star part as long as all of your blocks are consistently the same size - I would measure them all and decide on the smallest measurement as your square up size - say the 12 1/4 "

When you go to make the borders be sure to measure down each of the sides in 3 or 4 places - that will tell you how long to cut the borders - the same for the top and bottom - just be sure if you are mitering the corners that you leave plently of fabric for the miter.

I really think you will be fine - also you could lay out everything on the floor or a design wall if you have one and verify that the star is where you want it.

Would love to see a picture of it - you could post it over in the photo section - we all love to oooh and aaah over them!
