I'm looking for the name of a pattern for a quilt that my great grandmother started around the 1930s or maybe before. The pattern was appliqued onto what appears to be heavy feed sack muslin. The quilt wasn't large enough so I made about 8 of the blocks with fabric from the 60s'. If anyone knows the name of the pattern I would appreciate it.

Here is a photo of the unfinished quilt top.

It is a beautiful quilt. I have lots of old Kansas City Star patterns and looked through them. It is somewhat like the four pointed star and the Compass and Chain but they aren't it. Could it be an original pattern?

Thanks to everyone who checked out the quilt. I asked 2 aunts and a great aunt but they've never seen it before either. Hopefully someone will come along and enlighten us to what must be a rare pattern.

I've been looking through Barbara Brackman's Encyclopedia of Applique and it looks like it could be a variation of Lily of the Valley, by Nancy Cabot, 1934. From studying the picture, it kind of looks like there is a muslin background, a dark square, the Lily of the Valley motif, then a circle to finish it off. I love it.

I asked El if she had ever seen it before and she hasn't and suggested that it looks like a tulip design.

Hi Girls I am new . I was at a yard sale and picked up an old hand sewn quilt. It looks like it is made from bed sheets and old shirts and such, From the pattern and colors it could be as early as the 30s.There is only the top it was never finished. I would like to know how it should be finished? Because it is old, would you finish it the old way by hand or would you use a machine to put on the back? Would a machine stitch take away from the value? Please let me know what you think. thanks checotahnewbe.
