QUILTING WITH EMBROIDERY

Hi there. I have a question for you all. My MIL wanted me to embroider on several squares of a baby quilt to help keep the layers together. I was not really keen on the idea, but complied. Here's my dilemma. I embroidered about half of the squares using a tear-away stabilizer. This probably wasn't a good idea. I have now spent several hours picking out the stabilizer on the back of the quilt. Should I have used something like a water-soluable stabilizer or is there something you can recommend when embroidering a completed quilt? Thanks in advance.

I don't use stabilizer when I embroidery on a quilt.
I find that the quilt is heavy enought.

If you are quilting 3 layers together, you don't need a stabilizer. I have done several and I just hoop and embroider. I have never had a problem.

Thank you. I knew I should have asked first. I guess I was thrown off because I have been taught to embroider without hooping the fabric. In this case, I would have to hoop it.

Same here. I don't use stabilizer when iI ME on a quilt. I posted a photo of a quilt I just finished in the photo section. I embroidered a feathered heart on the cornerstones of the border. It worked just fine without a stabilizer.

hi, you really only need to use stabiliser when embroidering on a single layer cotton. the stabiliser stops the fabric gathering together and puckering as it is so thin. as you will be embroidering a thicker amount of fabric you won't need it.
a tip for another time when embroidering thinner layers, use glossy mag paper, it rips away really easily!! that was recommended to me by a tutor at a workshop. it works a treat!! and is free stuff and recycling!! (once you have read the mag)

I embroidery the blocks before I put the quilt together then the embroidery does not show on the back if it is a design but if it is just a quilting pattern I do not use a stabalizer.

Embroidery stabilizer, yes, can be picky if lots to pull, tweezers are my magic tool for threading sergers, and picking at stabilizer..But doing a whole quilt I wouldn't bother, since behind and will be sewn onto batting.
Just my way, not necessarily the correct way..
